well, after selling my beloved '69 plymouth wagon to get a '57 dodge custom royal lancer that had been sold out from under me; i settled on this.......

a '49 plymouth deluxe fastback

218 flathead 6

3 on the tree

unk. gears out back

it definetly needs a valve adj. and the brakes need to be rebuilt as it's been sitting since '86

the body is almost rust free, only a little in the floors

it doesn't smoke and shifts okay, just has a miss and idles rough

the plan is to get it mechanically sound, brakes first and go through the engine tuning

lower it about 3"

wide whites on 7" red stockos with baby moons

dual exhaust w/ glasspacks

MATTE BLACK!!!!!

if i cannot get the engine to run smooth, an efi 318 w/ 727 will be going in there......

i am going to take my time on this

you know; i never was too fond of the '49's look, it was there and cheap

i did find something we both like a LOT, so i traded

it's a '53 plymouth cranbrook flathead 6 3 on the tree, comes with an almost identical '54 with an overdrive

as soon as i can get kristy to supervise my photochopping; i will play................

OOOOOOHHHHHHHH YEEEEAAAAHHHH

nice sled project the 53.

you are very lucky, for it to be in that condition for sitting out in the open such a long time.(31 yrs)

the ones we can source here in oz (if you can find them) are usually very rusty through the sides of the roof and many other places.

so will you keep this one?

still think the 49 would have been nice in flat black and traditional coloured flames,

(white,yellow,orange and red).

well, i'm back home in san diego and was digging around in my hundreds of model cars and found an unbuilt '49 ford

i thought; this looks a little like my '53 plymouth, but the roof is wayyyy off

then i found a crappy '53 chevy bel air with a good roof

here is the car after extensive body work; when i get it in paint, i will post more pics

Nice work! I wish playing with real cars was as easy as mucking with my old models!

I'm jelous of the new car, I have worked on the trim in a few of these and they always seem to come up really well.

Have you decided what you are going to do paint wise? Or are you leaving it as it for the patina'd look? They look great with scollops!

well; since I'm not working, I can devote lots of time to the project...

got all the brake parts in Ca for $80, got them up.

put 2 qt. kerosene in the crankcase and got the valves freed up.

"Jellybean" runs and drives very well; the clutch is very grabby though.

I have a hole in the radiator limiting my cruise distance as well as the fact that the rego has been expired since 1975.

started welding up the non-existant floors.....

I'm running a '68 KE10 fuel tank until I can get the original one boiled out

the gold colored metal is from an old Cricket/Avenger trunklid and the red colored metal is from a wrecked 2000(ish)pontiac hood I got from the body shop

I didn't want to chop up my dash so I made an insert for the cd player
