  1. Long time since I last posted. I'm currently serving my time in the finnish defence forces, so I haven't drove at all. Corolla is still working fine and I'm waiting for summer when I can cruise it hard again. I'm having a easter holiday atm and thought I should finally assemble the sway bar! But obviously it does not fit as it is. I'm just wondering how have you guys solved the problem with the bar hitting brake calipers? Thought of making a new L-brace for the dog bones, but just wondering if anyone has a better solution. Hope I could upgrade the car a bit and give you guys updates again!
  2. Yeah here is my before and after on the banjo fitting i used. you can see the exhaust in the first photo. Mine actually wasn't that close really, but my mate who had some sort of aftermarket extractors was basically touching the clutch line without the banjo. [/URL]
  3. I've only just come across this article, and remember seeing Robbie racing at Surfers. I was there one time i'm sure he did a 12.8 down the strip. I had a ke16 panel van, with similar work done to the engine as Robbie's, and i could also squeeze 9,500 out of her. The head work took ages, used a band saw to cut up a couple of 4K heads to see how much I could hand grind out of the ports. I also ran an Ivan Tighe cam, and 2 x DCOE 45 webbers. One of the cams i tried was 58/85 , ran like shit under 3500, but came on song around 5000 through to 9500. i ran a standard corolla diff, 3.7 / 1, and that was half my problem with the revs i had available, crossing the line still in 3 rd gear. Had a bit of a problem burning out standard clutch plates as well. Robbie from memory ran an old Hi Ace / Stout diff at 5.8 / 1, allowed him to use all those revs. I soon learned not to trust the stock 4K fan blade, had one let go at 9500, sent 1 blade right through the bonnet. One day i'll find another KE 16 or KE 20 and have some fun.
  4. Ive also been down this road before, and I'm rebuilding my old engine for my son now, imagine how it would have gone with a bit of nitrous up its bum!
  5. Hey Guys I remember all of this news from when i worked at Butlers Toyota, Toowoomba. Robbie was an owner along with his brother and a third person (Names i know). I heard that it ran 12.7 with fuel injection but sounds a bit far fetched, although 13's is good. I bought the Carbies of one of the mechanics, who bought them from Robbie. I never got to use them but had done a sweet little KE25 up when i was in my early twenties, late teens. The front carbies venturies were 38's and the rear were 34's. I just sold these the other day to a guy from South Australia. Many problems over the years forced me to let my little pride and joy turn to trash. I was once going to build a good engine and a mechanic from the BMW side recommended a cam of 41/70. Robbie used to race in off road, when i worked at Toyota. He raced a bombed Land Cruiser Ute. The mullet was the go even in the early 90's when i was there  . Anyway i have a couple pics for ya, of the Carbies, how they were today (Hardly used, just old) and of my little ride, back in the day. I have recently sold it all to a guy who is going to ressurect her. He just told me that the engine still ran after sitting for over ten years. The mechanic who built it was a superb mechanic who worked for Toyota for 25 years when i was there-so knew the in's and out's of these engines. The engine itself is more then 20 years old from rebuild and as far as i know, does not blow oil or smoke and i thought i cooked it in traffic, that is why it sat!!!
  6. Robbie is still very much alive and still into drag racing with Toyota running through his blood. I'm his son Garreth Butler. That is one definetly for the memory banks and has all these memories tucked away in a special folder of TOKYO TOUGH! Thank god he doesnt have the chops or mullet anymore! Cheers for the find guys!
