Thought i'd read somewhere that it was an option :D I'm with the others though.....better off spending your time & money on something else imo :y: -
Coverting To Power Steering On 4kc Engine
turbo_rolla replied to wildthing's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
^^^^^ :D I considered the same thing but after a while realised i didnt really need it cause they're only a light car :y: Would be interesting to see if anyone has actually done it though! Was that an option on the hachis???? Maybe it'd be interchangable if it was :( -
Well done guys! Good to see my old sportivo doin well! :) can't wait to see the pics from the day guys! :P

Yeah, we're keeping it real for the ke70 lovers out there :P I reckon they're a pretty good old school rim (and they look good on a KE70 as we have proved), and pretty cheap so ya can't go wrong imo! Once i move into our new house i'll get it into the garage and do some more work on it (spray the centres, polish the lips, and a few electrical things - central locking, alarm) etc. I'm happy with how its coming along though! :)

Yeah, more gas builds up the harder you push it, so if you push it hard the blow off has more to get rid of. Thats why =0) don't think thats the reason behind the smoke though, as the blow off only vents excess gas. My guess is something to do with fuel...... :P With the pod, you can either take off the entire piping setup (including airbox), OR, you can just take off the bent piece of metal that goes down into the turbo, and leave the airbox & other piping so it shoots more air at the pod. The pod will screw straight on (all clamps should be there). If ya wack it on you'll notice it picks up a bit quicker cause the air is going pretty much directly into the turbo, as opposed to the 2m of piping. Also sounds good....like it did when ya test drove it the first time :y:
-
Yeah, will start with the centres and go from there i reckon! WIll probably leave the spokes silver for the time being though :P Took the stock rims out of the boot tonight and realised it has to be lowered cause it looks like a 4wd with the stock ride height :y: Though the guards will definately have to be done, so we'll see.

The "psssshhhh" noise is just the blow off valve letting go! (it sticks up near the intercooler piping on the RHS of the engine bay - sticking off some rubber piping - should be pointing up). It must've been blocked for a while cause it only really started working a few months before i sold it! I think the black smoke has something to do with it getting too much fuel when its on boost......thats what we thought it might be? The few times it did it with me was after you give it a bit, back off, then gas on again.....didnt seem to do it when ya didnt gas on straight away. You got the pod back on it, or ya just leaving it with the standard piping? The turbo chatter from the pod is awesome i reckon and always got alot of "wtf" looks :y: Though there's something about the standard piping that makes it seem classy too....a couple of months on, a couple of months off i reckon lol :P Now, an important question.....did ya win the drag? Hope you only went to 60 though :) Used to munch commodores and the odd wrx (old ones mind you). When the wheels used to spin it'd "suspension tramp" and feel like the dash was gonna fall in your lap :P The springs & shocks sorted that out though! Feels great though feeling it go nuts when the boost kicks in! Congrats on your first "second geary" too :) Hope you're enjoying it!!!! Done much/anything to it since ya got it?

Ah yes, the magical four letter word........DISH :y: Will hopefully get it done in the next week or two so will post actual pics once its done! :P
-
Yeah, i meant to say something along the lines of what love_ke70 said :y: A little more comprehensive than my "explination" lol. Nice work! :P
-
I thought mine was because of the rims were stacked to the left, but if anything they're stacked to the right lol. Will have to see if it still does it once they're out! :P I look forward to seeing some pics of the car fayt :P Was gonna spray the centres black felix cause i'd seen them like that on another car and they looked pretty good, but hadnt thought of polishing the face! That'll be a nice cheap & quick exercise when i move into my new house :y: Until then, adobe is a good friend. Rear is with "black" spray done, front is as is:

Yeah, $6500 for a bare interior car might be a bit much, but sounds like its had lots of work put into it regardless! Just gotta find the right buyer! I thought he'd have to have some bolt on flares or something to squeeze them under :P Would look awesome though....such a small car with massive rims! :y: Thanks pussywagon! Found out tonight after driving it that i'll definately have to do the guards if i lower it. It still has the stockers in the boot, and the tyre was rubbing going over bumps on the LHS rear. The front right also was bumping the guard when i came up my drive way. Will see if i can get some cheapish 2nd hand springs, or wait a bit and do it properly all at once  Very happy with the result so far though! :P
-
Lol, yeah they've been cleaned & sprayed. Just gotta work out something for the centre caps. :y: I thought 7" on the ke70 was wide......thats bloody huge! Much modification required to fit them under? Would love to see some pics of it! Your KE10 looks sweet too! They really are an awesome shape! :P Should hopefully have some springs in it shortly, so time will tell how much i'll have to fiddle with the lips....should look good sitting down low on the hotwires though i reckon :P
-
Thanks fayt! :P I wasnt sure how they'd look but now they're on I'm pretty happy with them! The improvement in handling is good also! No chance of smoking the rears now with just the little old 4k in it! :P Will have to address that in due time, but suspension is next :y:

My first preference was gonna be some rims off a MA61 Supra Rollayboy, but they went pretty high on ebay, but then i saw these pop up and had to get them, plus they were local. Wasnt a fan of them before, but they've made a huge improvement to the car i reckon! Doesnt quite look like a grandma mobile now :y: I'm in adelaide so we don't have to pass roadworthy etc, so if the tyres don't sell i'll keep them in my shed for "practice" :P The tyres are 155 R13 78s (78s is the only indication of profile on them - a bit odd) and they are a goodyear "rally S" tyre. Got enough tread on there to keep ya going for a while (will get some pics if anyone wants them). I'm in adelaide though Mr Hardware (just noticed its not on my profile) so it probably wouldnt be worth sending them up! You'd most likely be better off grabbing a set cheap from a used tyre place or something. Would something like $20-$30 per rim & tyre (together) be unreasonable? I've really got no idea what these would go for, but I'm guessing not much at all? :P Thanks for the comments guys!

Hey Guys, thought i'd share my new purchase with everyone. Picked up a set of 14x7 ROH Hotwires that'd been cleaned up & sprayed off ebay the other night. Picked them up today and got some rubber put on them :P They look pretty good (imo), and its great cause the wheels don't screech when you go around a round about @ 25km/h, and she's handling a bit better. Anyway, here are some before and after pics. Feel free to add any comments etc! Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Hmmmmmmmmmmm: And finallllllllllllllly: I'll lower it eventually (looks alright in the pic as the old rims are in the back), but thats a while off and will probably be done when i do some engine work (will no doubt be a 4age wannabe :y: ). Is it worth trying to sell the stock rims? They've got a bit of rubber on them still so it'd be a shame to see it wasted  Thanks for your thoughts and opinions (even bad ones!) :P

It feels like its gonna rip the wheel out of your hand hokey! Scarey at first, but then you learn to tame the beast! Also a sign that your car has a bit of power which everyone likes to know! :P I wanna see ya shifting through the gears like i did on the test drive Lesley :y: First and second are the fun gears.....third ya just hang on and let it spool up (so i've been told of course lol) :dance SO have ya got any speeding tickets yet??? :P
-
I guarantee you'll get used to it Lesley.......scared me s#!tless the first few times too, but you learn to go with it! :P Just keep a REAL firm grip on the wheel, and maybe start doing some weights to make your arm stronger :y: Its all part of the fun of owning a sportivo :P

Thanks mate! Much appreciated :P

Link is now fixed love_ke70! No more pics on there though, just specs of it etc. That blue ke70 is nice though.......would love to do mine in that colour eventually, though mine will be a pretty slow build up (house comes first at the moment.....but not for tooooo much longer :) ). I read on the ebay post for those rims that he's now been told they are 5.5" wide! Probably a lil too small for my liking i reckon, cause they wouldnt be much bigger than whats already on there :hmm: Any idea where that discussion on the "neals" wheels on here was rollaboy? Did some searches yesterday but didnt pick anything up. Either them or the MA61 now i reckon! May have to save up a bit more cash before i do either of those though  Took the rolla for a drive last night without the air con on for the first time since i got the exhaust done (its been like 40 in adelaide the last few days), and the difference is quite noticiable! Its got a better pick up, and is a bit smoother! It was a slow car, and don't get me wrong, its not a fast car now, but its definately a bit quicker than it was :( And the note in the cabin is pretty sweet, and from what i can hear the note outside sounds good too! Well worthwhile investment! So the next few things on the plan are wack my rear speakers & finish up my central locking, then get some rims for it, then lower it, and finally some basic work on the engine (cam, extractors). Thought i'd throw in the other pics i've got of that KE70 to keep the peeps happy  And lucky last:

Thanks for the pics Ke30! I have to get a photo of a decent set of trx rims so i can do the same. there's a car i drove past on the way home from my new place that has a black set on them, so i'll grab a photo and chop em on and go from there! That 1600 was on carsales/carpoint or something a while ago loveke70! Reckon it would've moved pretty quickly though! Actually, try this: :Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Saw it when i was browsing and was just struck by the colour! Awesome colour and awesome looking car! Very schmick Will see how the photoshop of the rims goes, and also do some research in the meantime :dance

After probably 14" or 15" rollaboy. I'm not lowering it for a while so I'm gathering there'll be no problem with scrubbing with 15's, unless i run like 225's or something  14x6.5 or 14x7 would be the ideal way to go i guess.... Thanks for that Pic loveke70! Always good to compare apples with apples :) Having said that though, my "light poo brown" doesnt quite compare to that paint job! I'd eventually love to have mine done in something similar to the following: Ford Narooma Blue i think Or something not to dis-similar to this (love the BBS rims as well!): I reckon it'll come down to either those, or the "Neals" rims! I think the TRX rims would look similar to something like this, but without the DISH: (can't remember whose car this is but fairly sure its off the forums - sorry) Keep the opinions coming!
-
Okay, been for a squiz on ebay.....here's a couple of options i've come up with: Not sure what these are???? Just a pity they're the wrong offset! Anyone know what sorta wheels these are? OR MA61 Supra Rims Probably go without the centre caps though  Thoughts? Opinions?
-
Yeah, just the lil ol 4k Nick....thanks tiger! Looked at the supercharger path, but will hold off on that for a bit longer as i wanna do some cosmetic things to it first :( (rims, suspension, & finish wacking in my stereo & central locking) I know rollaboy.....currently looking at what i can wack on there. Considering MA61 rims, or something off like a 180/CA18 etc (these are suitable right, just slightly different offset??), but only want something cheap. So I'm keeping my eyes open on the forums for whatever comes up! Also heaps difficult to find suitable rims here in adelaide as i rang around & no-one had anything. I'll tell them exactly what model I'm after though (ie MA61 or CA18 etc) next time though as opposed as "something to suit a KE70" as they don't draw the comparison that some other rims will fit. Anything wider than the pizza cutters that are on there now would be a great change though! :) Priced a set of those Konig "rewinds" (saw them in the latest fast4's), and they were $250each without tires for 15x7....trying to cash in on the hachi & hachi wanna be market i think! :( Any suggestions for suitable rims would be appreciated too, but I'm still doing some research on it :eatlead: Just found some old TRX rims a guy on AE86driving club has got on ebay.... TRX Rims on Ebay. May be worth a look & bid...

Alright, after quite a bit of thought, lots of advice, 70 posts, & 1.5 hours at the exhaust shop, i finally got the exhaust done on tuesday! Was only gonna get the resonator cut out (just purchased a new house, so i can't afford nice things anymore :)), but it needed to be welded up near where the pipe meets the extractors as well, so figured i'd get them to do the whole system while it was out. Ended up going 2" (1.75" didnt look like a big increase over standard), with just simple mild-steel tip (couldnt bring myself to pay $70 for a chrome tip! ). Looks a bit better than the standard system, and the note is pretty nice considering the small capacity engine. Much better than it was with the shot resonator & leak!!! $230 installed for the lot. Anyway, for what you've all been waiting for (sure you've had many sleepless nights wondering when it was gonna be done :( ) Before - pea shooter anyone? What $230 got me :( Extractors, new cams, suspension & rims will be next, but all the $$$ is going into the house at the moment, so might have to wait on that! (why can't cars appreciate in value??? :eatlead: Until the next instalment rollaclubbers..........Thanks to all for your advice & opinions! :(
