  1. The engine I'm looking at is just at a selve serve wrecker here in SA. Your best shot to get a cheap one is to look on here i think, cause i made calls to commercial dismantlers here in adelaide and barely anyone knew of them, or wanted $1400 for one! You might have abit more luck being in sydney though mitch. Thought about a 7k for mine teddy, but i was told by a wrecker or something that there's a bit more work involved in wacking these in a ke70 as its not a "direct" bolt in? Obviously would run a carby version for ease of transplant. Can you shed some light on this? Sorry bout no recognition with the pics boys....they were just sitting on my HD and i had no idea who they belonged to! Thanks though! The way I'm looking at it is that i should be able to freshen up the 5k (if its still there) and have a fairly cheap, fresh engine for not toooooo much. Sure, 4age would be nice, but $850 motor, then conversion parts, efi etc..... ;) I'll be happy if i can get a lil extra go out of it, and get my mate to do some "normal" mods to it - mild head work, cam, extractors and wack my 32/36 weber on it. Again, this is all assuming that i get it :jamie: Is anyone on here running a 5k in a ke70? Would it be best to just wack the whole motor in, or mix and match parts like you did xany?
  2. Hey mate, I'm in the same boat as you with the ke70 looking for a 5k upgrade. I'm going to check out a 5k on the weekend (if it is still where its supposed to be :hmm:). If there i'll grab it, and will be able to let ya know in about oh, 3-4 months probably how it goes ;) Gotta get my suspension in first! Like the other guys said, you should notice a bit of an increase in torque (that's what I'm hoping for atleast), but it aint gonna go like a 4age or anything  Good luck with it if you decide to go through with it! :jamie: In the meantime, these may wet your appetite (i beleive they are 5k's):
  3. Solvol if i've got a bar laying around, or a bit of washing powder! :) Like xany said though, washing powder stings like f$#k if ya got cuts! Solvol is also hard to get the grease off of your finger nails though. This protecta pink may be worth a shot though!
  4. Thats pretty nice! :lolcry: Havent seen it before! Those IS300 wheels look great too! What ya reckon they'd look like on a ke70 :) Love the accelerator peddle (the little wheel on the RHS near the tunnel) :lolcry:
  5. thats cool dave! i'll hang out for the pm! The springs were coming from queensland or something, so i can no doubt cancel them if required :)
  6. Yeah, i noticed that on dave's site and asked him what one's he uses, but havent heard back yet. Checked out ke70 & ae86, but definately no KYB listing (in their catelogue, or people ringing them and asking....). Spoke to autopro, autobarn, sprints, other specialist suspension places etc in adelaide, and they all said the same. Only found the rear ones cause i searched for the sprinter availablity on the kyb site. All good though.....just gonna go for the kyb's at the rear, monroes GT Gas at the front, and kings low all round. Its not a racing car, so it'll do me for now! Have ordered it all in, and am pretty happy with the pricing as I'm picking it all up for just under $500 (bout $120 kyb rears, $150 on monroes front, & $110 a pair for springs). Will probably wack either a strut brace in as well, but tossing up between that and swaybar.....will get this other stuff in first and see how it handles! Will wack up some pics and a review when they're eventually in (next week or two). Thanks guys :)
  7. Hey guys, finally doing my suspension in m ke70 and just wanted to run something past you guys before i go buying anything. I searched also, but didnt quite find what i needed. I'm looking to do KYB excel G shocks, and king springs (had these in other cars and was quite happy with the setup), BUT, problem is that all of the places i've called have confirmed that KYB do not make a front fitment for the shocks :lolcry: Rear isnt a problem (part # 343-036), but i now will have to find something to match the kyb's in the rear. don't wanna spend heaps on it as its only a daily driver, so was thinking some monroe GT Gas' would do the job in the front? And maybe wack a strut brace on to tighten it all up a bit. Anyone else encountered this problem when doing their KE70? If so, it'd be great if ya let me know what setup you ended up going for (have been through the ke70 dedicated page also). Have sent dave (AJPS) a message re what one's he has listed for KYB fronts, but waiting on a response from that! Oh, also found king springs low pretty cheap at Autopro here in SA, for $110/pair. Didnt think that was too bad considering its "retail", and most other places are asking $130-$140/pr (Group A's) :lolcry: Thanks Guys :)
  8. Hey guys, in light of the world cup, i thought i'd post a pic of what may be thought of as "the world cup dream team". Pretty accurate in my opinion  Mods, feel free to delete if inappropriate  Enjoy boys! :D
  9. Nice! Looks like they've done that a few times!
  10. so, whats it like driving with your elbows in the rear seat? :ninja: Might give it a whirl though! Thanks mate! :bash:
  11. and it fits without a problem biggo?
  12. Hey guys, just picked up a new aftermarket steering wheel (autotechnica or something), and was going to get a boss kit off ebay (new and cheap, which probably means cheap and nasty, but eh :D), but they're out of stock and wont have any for another 3 weeks. now, question is, are there any other makes of corolla/toyota that would use a boss kit similar/the same as a ke70 rolla? The one's they've got available are: 1. The T1 kit will fit Celica 70-74, Corolla KE20 70-74, Corona 70-74 2. The T12 kit will fit Celica, Camry & Corolla 88 on Also Landcruiser 90-98, Hi-Lux/4Runner 89 on Rav4 to 96, MR2 90 on, Starlet 91 on 3. The T7 kit will fit Hi Ace 81-85, Hi-Lux/4 Runner to 89, Supra 82-85 Anyone used something off the above or can offer some advise as to whether anything from above may fit? I did a search and saw some things that indicated this may be the case, for a ke70-->ke20 and vice versa: (from Nick - happy 4th bday for rollaclub by the way) Only asking cause I'm impatient and can't be stuffed waiting 3-4 weeks to get one (yes I'm a tight ass so don't wanna go to autobarn/supercheap and pay $70-$80 as they've quoted :faq: ). Alternatively, if someone has a cheap one they don't need and wanna palm it off, let me know! ANy assistance/guidance would be appreciated! Thanks Guys :P
  13. Yeah, there were some cool volkswagon golf commercials (i thought): Volkswagon 1 Volkswagon 2 Volkswagon 3 Bit of a rip off of pimp my ride....pretty cool! :(
  14. Hey guys, found a link on the toyspeed.co.uk site for a website that's got HEAPS of car videos on it (ie - numerous videos from TopGear, commercials etc). Looks pretty good, and there's heaps on there. HOWEVER, from the quick look i had, looks like its aimed towards the "performance" sorta cars, so i didnt see any hachis on there :) Good site though! If you check it out, make sure your bandwith is pretty new, cause you'll no doubt use a bit! :) Anyway, enough ranting, the link is as follows: MOTHER OF ALL CAR VIDEO SITES
  15. Cool, thanks guys! Got some other stuff come up with it lately so have put the engine swap thoughts on the backburner for the time being, but its good to know it can be done :)
  16. Thats pretty interesting! Potential for alot of pub facts from that page! :P :) Also try out this link for a heap of corolla facts/history: Superjamie's website even gets a mention in the links! :)
  17. Yeah, had a freeze with my connection and got a bit excited with the refresh button :lmao: And you're right, i did have the door open when i put it back in :) I cannot say this enough, but thankyou again! You've helped save many long and silent car trips :hmm:
  18. Alrighty, went and got some spare fuses and replaced it, and HEY PRESTO! :lmao: Stereo came on, interior lights both working, and digital clock on my new tacho now working also! Was a slight "spark" when i put the fuse in, but it was alright. Will keep some spare just in case whatever caused it pops up again! Thanks again for your help love_ke70! :)
  19. Okay, well I'm glad i've got the haynes one then! I'm not much use with electrical diagrams though :lmao: WIll grab a few spare fuses this arvo and try it out and hopefully it works! If it blows again, i guess its safe to assume there's a bare wire rubbing somewhere along the line? Hopefully not, but just in case :) Thanks again :hmm:
  20. Thanks mate, you're a f#$ken champ! :) Didnt even know there were fuses down ther (might have to get a gregory's book - didnt find it in my haynes, though i didnt really know what i was looking at :lmao: ) The 5A "tail" fuse was blown, so ill replace that and hopefully that sorts it out! Fingers crossed hey! :hmm: THANKS AGAIN
  21. Howdy again guys! Got another electrical problem so thought id throw it out there after ive been unable to find a solution. It relates to my stereo, which has stopped working since i swapped my clock ke70 dash to the tacho dash. The problem is that the stereo is getting NO power what-so-ever (its a kenwood KDC-MP 4029), not even the little security light that flashes when the ignition is off. Symptoms are as follows: 1. No stereo 2. No interior "door open" light (the one on the RHS of the dash, just below the indicator stalk), and 3. no "interior" light at all (one mounted in the roof lining) Now, i've had a look at my KE70 manual and i think i've located the relevant diagram: The wiring diagram indicates that the wire that may be dodgy is the "battery wire", which is the yellow one coming off the harness. I've taken the dash apart and this yellow wire follows its way up to just behind the steering wheel assembly, and splits to the "door warning" light in the dash. Basically, the question is, where do i find the 7.5A "dome" fuse indicated on the diagram? Had a look in the interior fuse box, and the one in the engine bay (4k-c), but no luck :lmao: If i can't solve this problem, i'll check all the wiring again, but the fact that the interior lights arent working tends me to think it is something to do with that "yellow" battery wire :hmm: Thanks again lads! Oh, further to the original post, the problem with the indicator stalk leads to something similar to the following: Apparently the wire rubs on the moulding from the assembly, but it should be able to be fixed by just replacing the wire. Will give that a whirl once i've finished working on my house :)
  22. Good point trev! Got a nice big double garage now (brought a house recently), so there's plenty of room for a whole car if i go down that track :P I'll keep a look out, and make a few calls. There's a T18 at a yard in adelaide from the looks of it, so might check that out!
  23. Well yeah, if its a pretty simple conversion it is definately worth serious consideration! Would be a good cheap increase in power. Wack on a set of side drafts like ya said, and i'll be laughing :P
  24. Nice one trev! I think I'm gonna be on the lookout for a similar deal! Like i said, will do some more research and make some calls to see what these engines are going for etc. Should i swap the entire running gear, or can i get away with just the engine & box? Depends if it'll mate with the tailshaft i guess.... :P
  25. Thanks nick, that'll come in useful when I'm wandering around u-pull-it :P Will do a bit more research on the 3T-C and T18 though and see what i can come up with before asking you guys anymore pointless (lazy) questions! Thanks for your help thus far! :P
