bit of an update..........been stuffing around with the light setup on the front since i did it a few weeks ago. it looks alright but isnt finished, and i can't be stuffed playing around to get the indicators mounted next to it. SO, was on the net last night and jumped onto clubk to visit our kiwi friends and stumbled across these: SO, i've managed to get them and the nice guy (Mick) is gonna be sending them over shortly! AND, the best part is that its gonna cost me less than i was gonna pay to get the light surrounds only from phillipines :) Good shit! So will see what sorta custom work has to be done with them, but hopefully i'll have a nice pic up of them on in a few weeks :sob:

thanks micko!!!! will have to get paul to do some cut and shut work on the brackets and then it should all sit in place fairly nicely. will give them a paint in black and see what it turns out like. might also do the "black chrome" colour on the cam covers like we were chatting about too, so will see if i can track down some of the paint

first of all, YAY for 100 posts in my thread  secondly, making some slow progress on the twin headlight conversion. have been looking into the surrounds still, and found a guy in the phillipines (one who's selling complete setups) who can get them for $150US incl postage. considered this but if i paid that then i would've paid about $400AU for the setup cause the lights and grill cost me $200, which is roughly the price of a "genuine" one to get imported now. Anyway, decided to wander down to u-pull-it this morning to have a look around and see if i could find anything. wasnt looking that promising until i stumbled across some big dihatsu truck/ute thing sitting on the back fence. had twin headlights in it, and little surrounds around the lights. SO, this dihatsu has become my new favourite car for the time being  was a bitch to get them off as the screws had been worn so there was some twisting and bending involved of the brackets (and a couple of little breaks in one of the surround - currently drying with glue), but got them off. did a "trial" fit against my setup and they'll fit nicely. just gotta shorten one of the brackets behind the inner light on each side so it doesnt protude too much, and then make up a little mounting for the parker. so slowly getting there. Oh, best part, is that the two surrounds cost me the grand sum of $5.50!!!!!! here's the ugly thing i got it off: the unbroken surround (alot shallower than the ones that came with the setup i got): just sitting over the headlights: so I'm gonna see how these go, and if it all looks alright i'll get the details of everything i've used and maybe a small tute on how to do it if people are keen. will wait on the end result first! :hmm:

thanks for the kind words blockman! that integra wasnt slow either though! always good to get a good reaction to the 4age goodness  so were you in the passenger seat or driving it? i think i remember the guy in the passenger seat saying something about having a ke70 (silver with black bonnet??). good to hear it got you thinking about yours though - 4age is the best mod i've done in the car by far and don't regret it at all! i was gonna go for a 5k, and ran the 4k with a weber etc for a bit, but nothing compares to the 4age. if ya need any help or advise or anything with yours, or just up for a cruise sometime let me know (I'm just around where we "faced off". there's everything you need up on here (and www.ke70.com) so check it out and see what ya can dig up. good to see the sticker got ya up on here though! WELCOME TO THE CLUB! chuck up some pics and info about your ride in this section so we can check it out!

wouldnt mind getting another one of these one day cause they're an awseome little car  lukcy they're a good car cause i dunno if the promo vid would've convinced me to buy one :D was good with the touring car stuff at the end though! :fuzz:

had a bit of a play around in the boot today to try and make up some kind of "enclosure" for the fuel setup in the back. before i go on, i am aware of the legalities (or lack of) with this current setup, but it will be swapped to an "intank" efi setup eventually (one day soonish mick ) the aim of it mostly was to try and quieten it down, but it hasnt done a huge amount of that yet. But its covered up most of the gear so that's the important thing. Here's a "before pic" of how it was: and this is what it looks like now. gotta put an end panel on it, but you can see i've got foam behind the panels to try and soften the noise, which it has to an extent, but not hugely. got the little "lifter" pump wrapped in 3mm rubber, and there is 6mm rubber glued to the bottom of the "lid". it'll do for now also made a pretty major modification to the rear of the car the other day. should be good for another 20kwatw :D And here's another pic of the twin headlight setup as it is now, with the grill adjusted  oh, also lined up against a dark blue/purple integra today with a couple of guys in it. stumbled off the line and then booted it, and kept in front of them (not by far though - pretty quick little setup they had running) so that was alright. good to hear a couple of n/a's revving hard. had a bit of a chat after and the passenger said he owns a silver ke with a black bonnet. think he might be off here or ae86, cause i know i've seen it on the net. Was good to see some ke70 love being shared around :fuzz:
-
thought that might be the case! thanks for the enlightenment Josho :D read through the full other thread (for your old one where you've started writing bout this one?) you got going driftke70 and its awesome! love your car, and the one your "basing" yours on is the same as what I'm basing mine on :fuzz: awesome work mate!

So I Had To Act The Dumb Blonde Today....
turbo_rolla replied to SoulSearcher's topic in SA / Adelaide
Good work lesley! girls get all the luck with cops :D if the engine is still standard (which i think it is), there IS a blow off valve on it. when i owned it i was driving somewhere one night and booted it and heard a "psssch" and wondered wtf it was (had the car for about 1 year at this stage and never heard it). investigated and turns out it was the BOV. from memory its a lil black bosch thing hanging off one of the hoses on the RHS of the engine bay. thats the way it came from the factory though as far as I'm aware, and it DOES vent straight to the atmosphere :fuzz: have a squiz around the engine bay near where i've circled on the following pic next time you're under the hood  -
Looking good mate! i've got a beige ke70 w/ jdm 4age too and they're awesome, so no doubt you're having a bit of fun in this thing! Very nice ride! oh, on the chance of sounding pretty stupid, whats "keto" mean? :D

the camera "girl" is my girlfriend. not the best video to watch cause you don't really see anything other than some lights buzzing past, but if ya shut your eyes you appreciate it more ;)
-
very minor update - have adjusted the grill so it sits above the "stone guard" just above the front bumper (ie you can now see the beige strip under the grill like you're supposed to). looks heaps better :P now looking into whether those "headlight surrounds" have a "step down in them, as the lights come back a bit (see pic below). paul, can you shed some light into this. looking at the pics, it looks like there might be. Could you get a pic of them side on perhaps? Also wacked up a new vid on youtube of the 4age goin last night. Nice comment from my g/f about the "nice jarring movement there" when i changed gears ;) you can't see much/anything, but it gives ya an idea of how the engine sounds :y: should be up there shortly Clicky clicky for my 4age in action
-
can't you just grind or cut them out though? dunno if I'm missing something (quite possible ;)). if ya did that, then ya could come up with something like the below couldnt ya? Or do you want to go for a "nice" job and thats why you want them?
-
i think so! was actually thinking of initial D and how you could just hear the sound of a 4age being thrashed ;)
-
went for a buzz to mount lofty tonight in the kesev (with my mate in his 180), and saw atleast one corolla in the carpark. was a beige ke70/ae71, then on the way back down saw a white 86 running a 4age come flying past. took on some r31 wagon running some turbo motor and beat it ;) gotta love the n/a 7800rpm :P
-
yeah, i think it was your post that i saw them in paul :P i think the corner lenses come with it those surrounds though (says "cover and corner light"). you're right though, its only LHS. i've sent him a message seeing if he's got both. Now, by the "stone tray", do you mean the part circled below? If so, i've grinded away at part of it to get the lights in easily, but if more is required i can do so ;) went to the shops and realised the grill needs to be raised a bit so you can see the steel above the bumper (stone tray?), but other than that I'm happy thus far. Will have a look around in the US to see what might be available though. Thanks Paul :y:

Had a bit of a browse around rollaclub at various twin headlight setup, and saw it mentioned that someone got a twin headlight surround off ebay. Anyway, jumped on and came across this. reckon this will be the way to go to sort out my surround "issues". The guy is in thailand, and does fender mirrors too: and Here's the guys store if anyone is interested clicky clicky. I'll definately be considering the headlight surrounds. might try to get the crhome bumpers organised before fender mirrors though ;)
-
Okay, have almost finished fitting the new lights. a bit of f$#king around and cutting and grinding, but its all in place. the only issue is the plastic surrounds of the headlights sticks out too far and the bonnet wont shut, so they're off for now. also gotta fabricate something with the parkers. Oh, wanna get a "GT" badge for the grill too!!!! ;) but the following pics will give you the idea! Feel free to comment :P

thanks mate! wasnt hard to find the rwd bigport setup........could've looked around on the forums for ages and got bits and pieces together and saved a bit of $$$, but decided to go to an importer here in adelaide and see what they had. THey had a full package (motor, ecu, loom, gearbox, clutch and all ancillaries) for $1,600, so i got that from em, and a jdm tailshaft for $200 (was gonna cost me more than that to mix and match aussie ones to match the t-18 diff). Am soooo happy with the result, and happy i forked out the extra money to get everything at once that i knew had been running and all came off the same motor :hmm: thanks for the headsup re the plate too! all good now :P
-
okay, quick update........went out and purchased something that'll help the car cosmetically (in my opinion). See below for details: corona quad headlight setup and JDM t-18 levin grill - both have been altered and ready to fit *e7*. thought they had the "levin" badge with them, but it'd been taken off. SO, I'm seeing if i can source one of the "GT" ones aka JDM style :hmm: Sooooooooo, they will be going on in the next week or so i think! Slooooowly coming along. Will hopefully look good when they're on and all nice :P

Its cool mate, i spoke to him a while back and he seemed pretty competitive. Only problem was he couldnt tell me whether he'd be able to use existing hosing or have to do new hosing, and said he'd let me know on the day. So couldnt organise a time to get a booking in. might call him again though and see what he says, and just bite the bullet and get it done. will try enzed too mick. had been holding off cause i've heard they're pretty pricey, but will find out. will make some more calls tomorrow! Thanks Guys :lolcry:

Hey guys, did a 4age conversion on my ke70 near the end of last year. All is running well, but we had to disconnect the existing airconditioning of the 4k for the install. the 4age has a compressor with it, so can hook her up again. THe compressor on the 4age is on the passenger side now though. SO, I'm basically after a new hose from the compressor to the firewall, and a new hose from the compressor to the condensor. the attached picture shows what i need. I've got the existing hoses and fittings, but not sure whether they'll be any use. Rang a few places and taken it into a couple, and they've either said "nah, looks pretty involved", or wanted something around $125/hose. Is it just me, or does that sound like alot of money. ALso tried a "hose place", and they've got suitable hosing, but no high pressure fittings suitable apparently. SO, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place that'll do it cheapish (not free, but cheaper than $125/hose) around adelaide. Either that, or a cheapish place to get it regassed too (if i pay more for hoses somewhere else, if anyone knows a cheap gasser). happy to go north or south (am at golden grove). THanks in advance :lolcry:
-
yeah, stumbled across that a few weeks ago when i started looking. problem with mine is though, that it had aircon before so all that stuff is sweet. all i need done is new hosing from compressor to condensor, and condensor to firewall. so only need the hose and maybe a few fittings. went past a place and they said it'd be about $200 to do that, then another $100 or so to gas it, but could be more depending on how long it takes. would be good to be able to get the gear for the hoses, slap them together, install them, and just get someone to gas it. atleast save the labour side of things. dunno, but will look into it a bit more :jamie:

Okay, has been a while so thought i'd chuck up a post........havent really done too much with the car since last time. Added a new centre console and lower steering column cover as the ones i had were stuffed, also found and put the centre part of my steering wheel (ie horn) in place so i've got my horn back. Realised i needed it last week when i was at some lights and a clown didnt turn on an arrow, and didnt get the hint from me revving behind him ;) 4age is running really well, and havent had any major issues with it. ONly thing is its dumping some fuel out of the carbon canister. Checked the lines, and everything seems good (blew down the lines - line from the carbon canister goes to the top of the tank as you could hear air entering the tank when blowing, and the other return line goes into the tank, as it was 1/2 full and could hear it bubble when it went down. so for some reason the tank is pressurising and sending fuel up the "breather" line to the carbon canister, and then it dumps the excess out the vent in the bottom and onto the chassis rail :( so not sure about that. also looking into getting the aircon on the 4age hooked up.......been hot and wanting to be cooler on the hot days. Just trying to find someone cheapish enough. Found one guy but didnt wanna commit to a price for hoses etc until he was actually doing the job :y: So if anyone knows someone cheap in the adelaide area, hook me up  looked at some hosing today at a hose place, and they suggested maybe a combination of the following: * Ryco BARRIER FB110 hose, suitable for use with r12, r134A, and 1/2" inside diamater - $28.55/mtr * Ryco 801-0808 1/2" hose fitting - $7.37 each - and suggested using clamps to secure to hose (as opposed to the crimping method.....dunno if the clamps would hold though - depends what psi the aircon system runs i guess) Got all the other existing parts of the aircon system (ie condensor, receiver dryer, lines etc), just need the hoses changed, hooked up & gassed :y: will keep looking around, but if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Anyway, that'll do for now! Cheers guys :y:

AE86 front swaybars will fit. I'm running a 27mm (yes, 27mm  ) front swaybar out of a spoontah (which i actually got 2nd hand from AJPS) in my ke70, so they definately fit (from my experience atleast!). Am looking into the tercel option for the rear though also ;)

floating around here and there and enjoying my 4age ;)
