  1. Bolt in swap you say nick? :y: If i could get something like that it'd be ideal! I'm happy to go for a lower capacity engine if its gonna be easier! Now the T18 is the celica right? DId they come with 5 speeds nick? If the crossmember bolts in though, and the rear mounts for the gearbox are alright this may be the way to go :P edit: actually, just read that the T's came out with the T40 & T50, so no need to answer that one nick :P Am going over the rest of the FAQ's as we speak
  2. Probably after a bit of cheap power and just a bit more power clown. I know its never gonna be a fast car with something like that in it, but the way i look at it is that its an increase on what is in there now. i would loooooooove to do a 4age conversion, but even with a mate helping out, the cost is probably a bit much. I could be a tool and think "oh yeah, $850 for an engine - cheap conversion!", but then ya got everything else that comes along with it. If i could pick up a real cheap 4age i'd consider it, but i don't see that happening with all the drifters going around these days! :P I will look into the costing of that a bit more though. I am open to any other carby engine suggestions though, but again i will also look into the EFI side of things. I just wanna keep it fairly simple, fairly cheap, and just get something that will give me a noticable (but not mindblowing) increase in power. Thanks for the opinions though guys! Be as brutal as you please, cause i do appreciate all comments, good or bad! :P
  3. Hey guys, just wanting some opinions re the possibility of fitting a 21R out of a Corona (st141 -have i got the code right?). Have managed to come across a cheap 21R & box (5spd) if i want it. Now, before the grilling begins, a few points to acknowledge.... 1. yes i did search - couldnt find too much, apart from toyota engine specs on Source of Toyota Engine Specs 2. i have a KE70 with a 4kc 1.3 4 speed at present 3. i know the 21R is an old engine, but its similar vintage to the 4k 4. i want to keep with a carby engine cause can't be f$#ked doing efi conversion, hence 4age etc are out of the question 5. wanna keep the costs pretty cheap (hence 4age are out of the question, & others EFI like 7k) 6. would ideally like to go something over 1.6L (so 5k, 4AC are out) 7. would rather spend some $$$ on putting in a larger capacity motor than modifying the tits off the 4k to get it to a similar output. Not after a rocket, just a slightly noticable increase in power 8. and, the specs on it don't look too bad ----> 105hp@5200, 116 lb ft@3600 as opposed to 58hp@5200 and 67 lb ft@3600 So I'm basically wondering if anyone out in rollaclub land has done anything similar to this, or if any of you guys are able to help me out with any problems etc you think i might face etc! OR, if anyone has any other suggestions for a TOYOTA carby engine that may fit into the above! Thanks in advance for any assistance :P
  4. :D ^ May the record show, that she was actually a nice gal!
  5. i was happy just to post the pics and let everyone enjoy....wasnt expecting a "gifted or assisted" discussion to take place :D I'd be happy to let it rest at the fact she's a nice looking girl with a decent (oYo)
  6. Look forward to the verdict clown! The two girls i've spoken to have said gifted, so it'll be good to get another opinion :D
  7. Yeah, she does in the second one....probably from trying to run away from guys like me with a camera all day :D From what we could see nick, she was VERY gifted! Was a lil pushup but most of it looked real! A mates g/f was chatting to her and she said they were huge (she was sitting in the car and the chick was squatting down in front of her!). My g/f commented on them too, and her comment was the only reason i noticed her  Thought a side shot may help the debate....was a very blurry one though Good to see there's some other chaps that appreciate brunettes floating around here! Makes a nice change from the blonde's that look like they've been hit with a truck all dolled up i reckon! (however i am willing to accept that there are some attractive blondes out there....i just prefer brunettes ;) ) She was just a real nice girl who had some idea of what she was talking about, so it was good! Anyone else in adelaide wander along to the show?
  8. Good work Clown Doesnt count without pics though :lolcry: I just thought it was a nice change from the blondies you see everywhere (I'm a brunette kinda guy :lolcry: ). There was a lovely redhead there though: Pity its a front wheel drive though! Had a turbo sportivo and although it was an awesome car, the change to the good old KE70 has convinced me to stick with RWD from now on!
  9. Hey guys, was going through my Motorshow 2006 photos (adelaide, held a couple of weeks ago), and came across a couple of pics i took of this nice chick that was at the suzuki stand, and thought ya might wanna have a squiz (cause all my mates who went asked for copies lol! First pic is the best IMO, but a lil blurry. Oh well! She was a real nice girl, and actually knew a bit about cars, so it was good! Got quite a few pics of the Colt turbo, but wont wack them up (don't wanna get flamed :lolcry: ). Enjoy guys!
  10. Go the rolla :lolcry: He ended up going like 400m with the 8 in it and pulled up cause they ran out of room (the aim originally was for 100m). No way he could've done that in anything other than a good old ke70! More proof that ya can do just about anything in a ke (even got the wheels spinning after too :lolcry:)! Looked like he had the stocker 13's on it too, so more bravos to lawrence!
  11. That certainly is an interesting problem nick! :) Will fix mine up eventually, but for the time being I'm using the miss' car at night! Thanks guys!
  12. Ah, that may be the problem then cause the plug (on the cluster) of the original one was quite lubed up, and i didnt put anything back on the new one! Will give that a whirl and hopefully it sorts it out! Thanks Teddy :y: Apart from that (i think i also disconnected a wire related to the stereo cause i got not power on it now lol, but thats another story and weekend!), I'm pretty happy with the result, and its a nice cheap & relatively easy upgrade! Recommend it for anyone!
  13. Thats alright....I'm happy to learn to live without it! May replace it with the "Toyota" badge that used to be in the old one or something! Did you have any problems with your speedo cable after teddy? Mine plugged in alright but I'm not quite sure if its callibrated properly now.... :y:
  14. Thanks guys! Checked it out today and its definately in the combo switch somewhere....there is a lil wire just near the indicator that i think is the cause (don't have a pic yet though). Will have a play around with it sometime shortly and see if it fixes it up! I do the same trev :P You're right though, it works for the time being! Might have to do a group buy of combo switches :) I'll try the compressed air too felix, just incase it isnt that wire I'm talking about! Thanks again :lolcry:
  15. Cheers Teddy! More than happy for others to add any other hints & tips they've got! Say, did you manage to get the digital clock working? That's the only thing i've had an issue with, and POSSIBLY the speedo cable, but not sure yet :P
  16. Thanks Tiger! Much appreciated! Hopefully it helps one or two people, but its not too hard a job so most people would be able to bluff their way through it! :) I wanna go down to the lonsdale site soon as well woteva cause i think from memory, the stock list shows a few more ke70's/AE71's down there! Might see if i can find a carb upgrade down there :P
  17. Thanks mate! I'll give it a whirl today! :P
  18. Yeah, first time i'd been there woteva! Went looking for a part of the clutch cable, and came home with the cluster.....also found a 5spd down there, but that'll have to wait for another day! Cluster was a good buy for $38.50 i reckon, and i got a few other small bits i was after for free so i was happy! :P
  19. I'm pretty sure it is to the accessories wire woodstock cause i just tagged it onto the previous stereo setup. Will check that out though as well. TRD, where is the combo switch? can't say I'm familiar with it! Cheers mate!
  20. Alrighty! Here goes nothing chaps! Like i said, its pretty easy, and you don't have to be too technically minded to get it done! How to put a tacho from a Ke70 XX / Ke70 CSX / Ae71 CSX / Ae71 Spirit into your Ke70 S / SE / CS or Ae71 CS. IT IS A DIRECT SWAP, with no modification required to the cluster/surrounds. 1. - obtain a new cluster as desired (Ke70 XX / Ke70 CSX / Ae71 CSX / Ae71 Spirit - These all have the tacho cluster). Got mine from u-pull-it in SA for $38.50. Wreckers will charge anything up to $60 for one of these.. if they know what it is ! 2. Remove the things stopping your surround from coming out! To do this you'll need a Phillips head screw driver (one long handle, 1 short). Start by removing the screws from the "surround" of the cluster (i think there were 12 in total - 7 along the underside, 5 along the top). Also remove the knobs from the stereo, along with the flat nuts behind the stereo knobs. The cover should slip off now. (see picture below – no need to take the air con vents out, but I did). 3) Remove the surround from your car. Make sure the indicator & headlight selector sticks are all in the down position, and the hazard light switch is sitting in the middle position (doesn't stay there, but it makes it easier). As most Ke70/Ae71's are 20+ years old now, an easy way of poppin this biarces out, is to get a friend to sit in the passenger seat, and get them to push up (with their knee) on the middle lower section of the dash (see Teds picture) This causes the dash to be pushed up, and makes pulling the assembly out alot easier. You basically have to twist the bottom section of the black gauge faceure towards you, making sure the right hand side of the assembly doesn't scratch / chip the top of the steering wheel column plastic (who am i kidding, its going to, if its not done already :P ) - rotate it up, and the assembly will come out bottom up first, if that makes sense. After the 9th + time of doing it, you get pretty good at it :lolcry: Remember, it does take a bit of force to do, but don't snap the surround ! 4. Detach the cluster from the dash backing - simply unscrew the 4 screws - one in each corner of the cluster. 5. GENTLY pull the cluster out to wards you (bring the LHS towards you). There are 3 harness plugs, about the length of a double A battery. Reach your hand behind and undo the first harness. Then undo the second harness, along with the 3rd. Next is the speedo cable. Can be tricky, and this is the thing stopping you from pulling it out any further! Aint really a job for big hands, so a little brother or sister is perfect if ya don't wanna scratch up your hands! :) Get ya fingers around the speedo cable (there's a white clips that keeps it in place), and wriggle and pull it a bit until it comes free. This should loosen up the cluster, and you then unclip the final harness! Or, if you don't have / previously killed younger siblings, you can reach up from underneath the dash, & easily get your hand up from underneath, and feel for the cable. Make sure you gently undo the clip by squeezing both ends of the circular clip, which will release it from the back of the cluster. It should pop off now. Memo to self, that speedo cable can be moved backwards and fowards about 50 mm, to suit the length of your fat hand. You should now be left with 3 harnesses plugs on 1 loom section & one speedo cable 6. IF YOU WANT TO SWAP ODOMETERS: There are 4 clips on the cluster itself (2 on top, 2 on bottom). Use a flathead screwdriver or chisel (flat based tool) to push in the tabs to release the clear cover from the cluster. The cover should now pop off, leaving you with this: 7. Gently take off the needle (I used a chisel to gently raise it up from underneath), unscrew the two screws (on the front) either side of the needle, and flip it over! Unscrew the 2 screws on the back (either side of where the speedo cable connected to the cluster), and the odometer should pop out: If you're planning to customize your cluster at any stage now is as good a time as any to do something! (I painted my needles red but decided to go against it). Reverse the process to put yours back in! 8. Take it back out to your car, and plug in the harnesses. Start with the far right one, then then the next, then the speedo cable, and finally the one closest to you. This will be cramped, and you may be able to pull the speedo cable through SLIGHTLY, but make sure they go in properly, and that the speedo cable isn't loose at all. 9. The moment of truth – wack the keys in, and turn on the ignition…..you should get your “normal†warning lights like so: 10. turn it over, and the tacho should spring to life. Turn your lights on to make sure the bulbs in the new cluster are all fine….if not, swap them with a bulb from your old cluster. Finally, go for a drive and make sure the speedo is moving! Enjoy the sight of the tacho going to 4, 5, 6, 7000 rpm!!!! (and 8,000 rpm, if your cool enough :lolcry: ) If all this is working, you're just about finished! Just screw the surround back on, and bob's your uncle! Should look something like this :lolcry: : Only problem I had was that the digital clock doesn't work, and I'm not sure why. Other than that, no problems. Hope this is helpful to atleast one person out there! Pretty straight forward (hardest part is the speedo cable IMO). Feel free to ask any questions/post feedback, advise of any mistakes! Thanks Guys! From Teddy: Dude, Great write up ! Ive added a few things, as ive done this too many times :lolcry: -> have a read of the few tips n hints ive added.. it gets easier each time you do it !
  21. Thanks Tiger! I'm going around to a mates tomorrow to replace a manifold gasket & give her a tune up, so i'll try that while I'm at it! Thanks mate! :P
  22. Hey guys...completed the upgrade from clock to tacho....results are as follows: From bland: Comparison of the two: to grand! :) If anyone wants me to put a "tutorial" up for the swap (AE71 dash ---> Ke70) let me know as i have pics of the process. Figured its a pretty simple thing to do so people may not be interested though! If you are, let me know and i'll wack it together! Oh, just one tip......check everything INCLUDING the speedo cable before ya screw the "covering" back into place. Not that i forgot or anything :P Thanks for your assistance chaps!
  23. Hey guys, got a prob with my KE70 (4kc, CS). The problem is to do with my LHS indicator. When i have the lights on and wack the indicator on for a LH turn, the headlights go out, as too the dash and centre console panel. If you tap them a bit, or push them forward slightly (towards high beam, but not quite) they go back on (but don't stay on - they're only back on when you tap it, or are holding it forward). Checked the fuses, made sure my earth for my stereo & battery was good, but no change. :lolcry: If i have the high beams on this DOES NOT happen.... :P It will also (when the lights arent on) reset my radio when i indicate, but this only happens every now and then. I'm thinking MAYBE something to do with the electrics in the indicator stalk itself, but not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? If not, anyone got any suggestions? Thanks guys! :)
  24. Didnt think about that, so thanks Ruts! Will no doubt be easier than trying to wind it back in there! I'm tryin to get it done this weekend if i got some spare time, so i might post a few pics of it to show noobs like me what to do :P Thanks alot for your help guys! Should be interesting to see what sort of punishment i've been dishing out to the 4k :lolcry: Got a manifold gasket issue as well, so its gonna be a busy weekend! Thanks again! :)
  25. Hey guys, i own a 4k ke70 CS (got the clock where the tacho should be) and went down to u-pull-it on the weekend (clutch went on the weekend, and i had to get a piece that holds the cable to the spring mechanism on the gearbox - i know - very detailed explanation). Anyway, stumbled across an AE71 instrument cluster ---> YOINK and $38.50 later its on its way back to my place! :) Just to confirm - is this a PLUG and PLAY (ie is the tacho cable already in the existing wire harness meaning you can plug them in and bob's your uncle?), or do i have to join a cable for the tacho? Question - how do i wind the km's back on it? (genuine question - not looking to do a dodgy on the car before i sell it or anything :lolcry: ). Cause this new one is showing 360,000 odd, and my lil cars only clocked up 230,000km. I guess it is something to do with where the speedo cable plugs in, but i can't find anything in the shed to fit in there..... Tried allan key set, but no luck! Any recommendations chaps? Thanks! :P
