To Coupe, Or Not To Coupe, That Is The Question

Depends on what you want the final result to be? Do you want a daily cruzer to get the groceries in or do you want a weekend warrior for the street and strip? I say go the coupe. -

I'm not sure if this question has been asked but will GT86 owners have there own space on Rolla Club. No I didnt see any corolla badges on it but it is based on the spirit/ driftability (is that a word?) and agility of the original 86. I,m buying one. $1000 deposit, first batch delivered in mid June price range at the moment $40,000 to $45,000 but was told that could change , so what i,m buying one. Funny thing is I showed my mum this concept about a year and a half ago and now she has also put down a deposit. I,m not sure how i feel about that :hmm: . She must be having a midlife crises.

There is a little book called FOUR-STROKE PERFORMANCE TUNING by A. Graham Bell. There is an entire chapter devoted to the air inlet system which has helped me out numerous times. This book has a lot of detail but written in such a way that even someone like me can read it. and yes I know a book is a little old school but old school is what its all about.

blzbub666 LMAO. Yes i have known Steve for many years now and he is a C**T :P Nagging..... Jimmy-D your a legend . That is one of the many weapons in a womans bag o trick. Time to use it on her...maybe i can use some of "there" other wepons like......NO SEX....no wait....i think she could out last me in that department, maybe something else :hmm: -
So I was doing the rounds today and came upon this corolla wagon at the local wreckers. It has 4k-c, extractors, a/c, sports stearing wheel and some extra gauges. Its got a dent in the rear drivers side but apart from that straigt and rust free (as a car that age can be). It still runs but no rego. So buy it you say!...well.... Why is it when you are not looking for a rolla there is always one there? Why is it when you have no spare cash there's that rolla at cheap price? Why is it when you have no space available to fit another car in your driveway there it is......that lil rolla, tempting you.... calling your name like a long lost lover calls you from the bed room wanting for you to take her? I will tell you why......Its the God of Corollas..... or as i like to call him..... Steve. Steve is watching you. He is listening. He is waiting. Waiting until you have given up on finding "that one last part". So you decide to make "that one last part", or adapt a part from another model car, which takes you hours, days, weeks to do......then BAM the part you needed is on ebay.... and where are you?.... in the shed thats where, fu#*ing around with that custom part you were half arsed making and by the time you think "I will check Ebay" the Auction has just finished and the part has been sold to some guy who is going to adapt it to there project because they could not find "that one last part"....... Thanks Steve. :finger: When your missus has snaped because you keep bring home "pieces of S#*T"(her words not mine) to "restore" and says THATS IT NO MORE! What does Steve do? Oh yeah thats right he offers a mildly worked corolla for $300....come on, its only $300...She wont mind...store it at your mates place, she will never know...Thanks Steve. So here is the problem Do I buy it and tempt the wrath that only a woman on the edge can dish out? Do I pretend I never seen it...Pretend that Steves offering is nothing more that chewing gum on the foot path of life? Do I do the sneeky and store it at my mates place?...she WILL never know...but she may think that the bromance has steped up a notch because of all the time spent a said mates place. :lovin: Whats that dear... my pay is a little short this week? I will have a talk to the boss and see whats happened. Decisions decisions....Agggaaaaaahhhhhhh. Or like Steve says Maybe I'm just over thinking it and talking BS....Thanks Steve. If you are still reading my ramblings as a prize you get to see some pics of the wagon. I have no spare money , No time and No room for another corolla but...... :worship: Thanks Steve the God of Corollas, thanks for the Corolla addiction and may you never leave.

This is my good mate kristies rolla. She didnt want me to post these picks caus her car is dirty. But when will it ever be clean :laff:

Hi all, Spotted two ke70's in Geraldton one is a white sedan with wicked hand painted boss 240 on the bonnet(good for an extra 10km/ph) and rusty parts. The wagon found at the local wreckers has extractors, sports wheel, stright panels except for drivers side rear, air con (is that the bracket needed for a supercharger?) and not that much rust.

Hi Andrew, There are other toyota powered sierra guys on here that may respond but before they do ill put in my limited knowledge....are you using the toyota gear box? my guess is yes. if this is the case then the ratios in the gearbox are what are turning your 4wd into a rock crawler. Check out the ratios of other gearboxes in the corolla range this may help. On the other hand how long have you had the conversion as it may be something related to the motor? Go the suzi :D

What Would You Do If You Were In My Shoes?
go baby go replied to daCoupe's topic in TExx Corolla Discussion
If time is always going to be a problem then go for the 4age efi. There is less maintenance with an efi engine (no carbs to tune for one). It will take longer to install the 4age but you will get that time back with trouble free running and will save money with less fuel cosumption. -
Hello my name is Dion and I'm addicted. I'm not sure if this fits the title "stupid things" but my wife thinks it does. so here goes. I need to to go to R.A. I like to go to wrecking yards and collect oldschool rims even if they don't fit my cars. I have even put some sets in my cealing space caus I'm running out of room. The Ame white rims in the photo have cooling vents on the back that direct air to your brakes...now thats 80s cool.

Very nice find indeed. Would Robbie still be around? How cool would it be to get some of the old nastalga, the stories and the info Robbie must have in his head. I would love to know the reaction of the v8 and six cylinder drivers to the mighty rolla. How many chicks did he pull using the power of the rolla and mo combo? This is a guy to invite on a cruse. Maybe a cruse to the drags and then he could sit shotgun in a KE10? Thats if he,s still kicking.

Some basic "rule of thumb" for inside diameter of manfolds on turbo cars from some old school boys. 4cyl single turbo- 1.3 ltr = 1.25 to 1.5in exhaust tube Diameter 1.6 ltr = 1.25 to 1.625in , 2 ltr = 1.375 to 1.75 use the smaller size for the larger power band or larger size for top end. But this is for a "normal" turbo set up Then there is the other old rule, the exhaust diamater (ment for after the turbo) should be at least 15% larger than the exducer bore. so 1.3 - 1.6 ltr engine should be around 2.25 - 2.5in (thats producing up around 120 - 150hp per litre = fun). Just putting it out there , I'm not sure how this is going to translate to what I'm doing but on first look I think if after the header I run the pipe size to the turbo around 1/4in larger than the exhaust port on the head, then this maybe a good balance providing enough flow and not to much restriction...... Just typing out loud. :hmm:
-
Cinky thanks for the support. HEAT. OK. Thermal wrap.... Check (all i could do for heat) . Should I mention that putting the turbo down the back may free up the use of headers that have been inertia tuned or that black art.... pulse tuning.
-
The problem with putting a turbo in the glove box is where do you put your gloves? OK so no to the rear mount turbo. :hmm: How about a super charger running off the drive shaft down near the diff. After going thru the gear box the rotation....Ha Ha Ha I'm not serious but now that I mention it. :bash:

I'm loving the intrest and the input. Please don't think that any ideas you all offer are just pushed to one side or ignored I am taking this all in and you are helping me look at this from all angles. Cheers. G,day Hiro Protagonist. You raise a valid point about the length of pipe but...(theres always a but) I'm not running an intercooler (no you did not talk about an intercooler and yes this is part of my justification process) so from what ive seen there can be (but not always)alot of pipe work involved in going from the turbo through an intercooler and then to the inlet. I know with the FMIC kit I got for my Supra the pipe work would have increased at least a meter on the existing/ stock pipe work.I also realize that a KE55 is alot smaller than a supra. I know that following the tried and tested way is the best/cheapest way but when I get an idea in my head I need an exorcist to get it out.
-
Hi Anastasios. I'm not sure on the location, at first i thought after the diff? But now with a few other questions being raised (like lag ect) before the diff might be a better choice. This will give Shorter runs for the pipe work, and if I need a muffler I can sneek one in after the diff. Just stealing some ideas and trying to "think outside the box". I'm off to the wreckers today to see whats available for the project and what it will cost. If its to expensive then i will drop it, but if I can get the parts nice and cheap I will give it go for sure :laff:

All good points twinky. I might get funny looks when going into the exhaust shop and asking for 1" exhaust tube let alone the response I will get when I tell them what I want it for. Smaller tubing is a good point for speed of the exhaust gas . As far as exhaust heat goes I had not thought of that.Maybe wrap the exhaust from manifold to turbo will help :hmm: now is that in the budget?
