  1. Well I spoke with my local engineer this morning and he's gunna come round my house next week and let me know what he thinks about the conversion. I told I was sick of yes/no/maybe answers and wanted concrete answers. He was more than happy but obviously wanted to be paid for his time which I can understand (saves me wasting thousands more if it is a no go). So hopefully by the end of next week we will all know if this is feasible conversion to nsw regulations.
  2. Cheers pmp16, I'm not feelin to confident about it. Might have a beams setup for sale but hopefully it is all good. I've asked him to come round so he can see it in the flesh so hopefully he will be up for it. Fingers crossed ;)
  3. ^ sorry I meant to say physical size, at least that's how I took it. So I'll be sending some photos out to him today to confirm he will coz it is a massive donk for the size of the car.
  4. Wow, awesome build mate .I have only just been put onto this thread by Jordan :) I'm really keen to see how your front end turns out. Is there recent pics of how you mounted the radius rods??? I too have the Hopper Stopper kit but after talking to Davros I asked them to add an extran 4mm to the inner bearing carrier on the hub to push the rear of the mounting face away from the lca. After lots of thinking I'm really keen to see how this works out as I need acollapsible column and KE70 r&p seems the way to go with the column also. Keen to see some updated photos mate but hey keep up the good work.
  5. Stu- he was talking capacity. He then told me he was going away from individual cars so I suppose he just didn't want the hassle. It's ok tho I spoke to my local engineer and he has applied to be put onto the new rta scheme so he will do it without any drama. The only reason I went to the bloke in Sydney is my original engineer was worried about how the change over of regulations within the rta would affect his insurance but it has since been cleared up which is a massive relief as he is closer and really easy to talk too. I just need to pick his brains on the ae86 lower control arm and ke70 r&p conversion..... Fingers crossed he says it's ok as he wants at least one original crossmember from the ke10 for engineering reasons. Given that there is no way the original gearbox xmember is useable I need to keep the factory engine cross member.
  6. Cheers Jordan for the link, very interesting indeed. Will take them down to my original engineer after the bloke in Sydney just told me he wouldn't pass it considerin the size of my engine in the small car. THANKS ALOT D$&KHEAD. So back to the original plan, just finish the tunnel and head to the engineers asap.
  7. Terryo have u tried the ke1x pitman arm on the later steering boxes??? I'm interested in the manifolds have u got any photos???
  8. Champion Stu- I'm pretty sure it's a ke2x column. Looks identical to the two I sent to the scrap yards months ago. I know u should never throw parts out for this exact reason but I had no room and heaps of stuff layin around. Thanks for heaps for the photos though, much appreciated. Does anyone know how hard it is to change the column from the 20 to the 10 box???
  9. Stu- It's funny how ya go looking for one thing only to find another. I put mine on the first time only to find the drivers side rail had some serious rust coming through. I spoke to the engineer about it and need to get a mold made then press a new section to replace the rusty hole. I'll chuck some photos up later. But in the mean time it looks like I might have my skyline sold YEHAH more money to finish buyin all the expensive stuff for the rolla :) and maybe some more progress...... We will see.....
  10. Kickn5k that would be sweet if ya could mate, cheers.
  11. Yeah I'm yet to find out how it'll go once drivable as I bought the car as a rolling shell. I suppose I should check how much free play it has sooner rather than later. I might still have to go to a ke20 setup yet for engineering as they run a collapsible column from what I've read (can anyone confirm this?) Luke - how much castor and camber did u finish up with in your ke10???
  12. Cheers luke241285 was wondering how to get around that. I'll be takin em this weekend and doing that for sure. Yeah it's a full on conversion but hopefully I'll be the first to get it done. :)
  13. Heres some of the mock gearbox tunnel i've made from cardboard. Now I gotta pull it out, lay it out flat and cut the shape out of 1.6mm mild steel sheet. Then fold it back into shape, weld it up and install it. After that I've gotta sort the central floor brace out and re-install it (big job) lol
  14. Also some photos of the front brake setup and pedal setup I'm using. The front brakes are the Hopper Stoppers kit and Tilton underdash pedal setup. I'll be using VH40 remote boosters front and back.
  15. So some more progress photos of the motor and box installed. Will take some more of the cross members when I pull them out of the car to finish welding them up.
  16. Yep definately! Add up all your expected costs and double it. By them time you custom make things, stuff them up an make em again if your lucky you'll get some change from the original estimate.
  17. Thanks Jordy. I can see where your coming from with the steering box but I had a friend who built a 1200 datto coupe with steering box and I found it quite reasonable to drive. In the long term I'll prob go down the ke70 rack and pinion track but to get it on the road I'm gunna stick with what I've got already got. As for the costs..... Talk about blown out! I was originally thinking 10k would cover it but no even close more like 20k but as they say if ya want quality be prepared to spend the money.
  18. Cheers won't be for a while at that price unfortunately. Still gotta fork out big money for the diff, computer and inlet manifold. Thanks for the approximation though :)
  19. Altezzaclub - initially I wasn't gunna change it. Would like to get it up and running and rego'd before startin with upgrades like that, it's gunna cost enough as it is. Just food for thought though how much roughly for flywheel and clutch?
  20. Philbey I also thought about doing this but wanted something unique so thought I'd dive in and do it. I'll be posting some more photos tonight and some more details on the pitfalls and traps.
  21. Yep extremely tall, only just fits in there. Might even have to mod the bonnet a little yet, will see how it goes. My main concern for now is the central floor brace inside the cabin. It has to modified dramatically but if I increase overall strength and rigidity it should be fine. Plus I'm looking to put a full cage in (removable front pieces by bond roll bars) it should be all good. Will be ringing the engineer today to have a bit more of a chat
  22. Greenmac80 - yeah I've spoken with jordy a bit as he rang me out of the blue asking where I got my cut from. Yes everything fits but its bloody tight and there is a fair bit of modifications to complete but if I keep the engineer in the know he seems to be fine with what I want. I already have to engine and box mounted just need to finish the tunnel and cross brace I the middle of the floor and the hard work is done :)
  23. Nah mate street legal, have spokenwith multiple engineers and all have no probs with how I'm going about my conversion. Will post up some more details tonight.
  24. Hi guys, Thought it was about time I started a thread detailing my build project. I bought the car back at the start of the year off e-bay. I bought it without inspecting it so was pretty happy to find it in reasonable condition. So i got it home and started with my research as to what i could fit in the engine bay. I originally thought i'd go with a 4agte but after some research found the 4a road had been travelled many times over. So I've got a mate that had just bought a KE20 to make into a race car and he was talking about these 'mythical' Altezza beams engines...... HMMMMM my ears pricked up with the 210hp stock 6 speed manual. So off to the importers to pick up a front cut and make it happen :) So anyways once it was home i started stripping it down and removing excess parts to sell off to recoup some money. This is where the fun began, I had taken some measurements while the motor was in the front cut but it wasn't unitl it was out that I realised this was a much bigger project than i first thought. Don't worry there is more to come :)
