  1. Whereabouts is your job? Might help to pin down a location thats relatively close yet still good.
  2. Supercharged ones are all imports.
  3. Standard 7" rectangular headlights, as long as you use the mounting bracket/ring from the 55 they'd bolt straight in.
  4. AE82 Twincam hatch AE82 Twincam Seca AE92/93 SX hatch AE92/93 SX Seca AW11 MR2 Those were just Google image searches, remember to check trim/spec of the model, and if it's been modified, to make sure you actually get what you want
  5. Actual ADM models with them = AE82 Twincam, AE92/93 SX, AW11 MR2. Thats it. And no 20Vs or GZEs either, just the big and smallports. Everything else is an import.
  6. Rental market is very tight up here at the moment, one of the worst in the state. Best bet for looking for flatmates etc would be to scout out the uni and surrounding suburbs (Waratah, Jesmond, Mayfield, Warabrook etc), as thats where most of the share-houses are. Would be good to get a KE1x up here, haven't seen any around town at all.
  7. My 7AFE is coming up very quickly on 300,000km (something like 292,000 at the moment) and it has never, ever had the head removed, and is still going strong. 71kw at last dyno day just with exhaust). Granted, its a '97 model, but a LOOOOOT of k's for it's age. A-series engines last a bloody long time, although not as long as K-series
  8. Kinda related but not, somewhere in England (can't remember where) there's a cop-shop on Letsby Avenue. Now say that in a Cockney accent like you're in a 70's cop show like the Sweeney. For those who are culturally deprived, "Lets be 'avin' you" (Lets be having you, ie "get him!" was a common saying by the cops in shows of the above kind
  9. All 4AGEs sold in Aus were MAP sensored, not AFM (which is different to MAF by the way). You should double-check whether your engine is AFM (big box in the middle of the intake pipe) or MAP (little black box on the firewall connected by vacuum pipe to the intake manifold.
  10. You don't open the remote. Generally the battery lasts the life of the remote (or the remote lasts the life of the battery ;)), you take it back to Toyota and get either them to put a new battery in, or get a new remote. I think it's only the newer Corollas (ie ZZE122s onwards) that have easily replaceable batteries. And no, the wipers don't turn when you use the washers. They did on the Camry that I learnt to drive in, but not the 102.
  11. To get the front section of the centre console out, you need to remove the following (in order, but going from memory so maybe not 100%) 1) Rear Centre console - remove the two bolts inside the compartment (underneath the carpet) and the two screws on the side near the front of the seats. Remember to unclip the central locking wiring so you don't rip it out too 2) Front door sills - should just pop out with a bit of leverage 3) Drivers and passengers kick panels - should be only a screw or two in obvious places 4) Glove box - pop open the lid to get to the screws along the top front edge of the glovebox, may be a screw or two at the bottom as well, or may come out with the lower dash panel too 5) Drivers and passengers lower dash panels 6) Front centre console - two screws at the top above the console bin, two where the console joins the lower dash The 271 Gregorys manual goes through it in detail, too cold outside to go and get it from the car though ;) Done it a few times to install the shortshifter and paint the dash, every time I seem to come up with a spare screw or two, with nowhere to put them ;)
  12. As much as I love my g/f, it seems I almost always end up cooking (although she tends to have worse days than me). That, and I'm the better cook
  13. *winces at the mental picture* One of the things I hate most is seeing a good MA61 written off. They're an absolute pearl of a car, best Supra ever in my book (although I definitely wouldn't turn down a MA45)
  14. WGMG: Getting 5 minutes into washing the car properly for the first time in months, and it starts pissing down. Seemed to come out of nowhere. Then, after battling it out and finishing the job, 10 minutes later the sun's shining brighter than the glare off Peter Garrett's head.
  15. No. Silvertop 20Vs came out in the AE101 Levin/Sprinter, and the 3-door FX-GT hatch (like our 101/102 Secas, just with only 2 doors and a hatch). Blacktop 20Vs came out in AE111 Levin/Truenos.
  16. I'll have a look when I go out into the carpark. From memory, it doesn't, but don't quote me on that
  17. Just undo all the 4 nuts or so and wiggle the tail-light to try and get it loose. If necessary, get a screwdriver and wrap it in cloth to use as a lever, shouldn't take too much force. Remember to disconnect the wiring too so you don't accidentally rip that free. As for the Gregorys, they also pop up on eBay from time to time, $65 is a bit of a rip (I got mine for $50 from Peps, and that included them shipping it in as they didn't have it in stock), you could wait until Supercheap or wherever have a sale on too.
  18. I'd agree with this, no production car sold new in Australia was ever fitted with a 20V engine, they're all imports or conversions.
  19. Yes, the Gregorys tells you how to pull the dash out, don't think it mentions stuff on the remote though (that'd be in the Toyota owners manual, mine's running around somewhere, can post up the relevant stuff if you want) And yes, thats the stock remote control unit. You should be able to buy them from Toyota, no idea on cost (non-genuine ones pop up on eBay fairly frequently, no idea if they work or not either). If you buy one from Toyota it should be pre-programmed, you'll just need to insert it into the port and do some magic to get it to key into your immobiliser. Once again, pretty sure it's covered in the owners manual, so I'll check tonight
  20. Since it's a '97 model, that makes it the facelift version and will have the coloured garnish. However, I've found the sedan ones to fade a LOT less than the Seca variants. And mine has not faded one bit, neither have the tail-lights either (also a '97 Conquest sedan)
  21. 1) Try taking the centre console out - the back section comes out easily (two bolts in the bottom of the console bin, under the carpet, and two screws on the sides near the gear lever), front section requires you to dismantle most of the lower dash. Should be a little globe in there somewhere (mine's manual, so can't help there) 2) Yes there is, on the "roof" of the boot, just to the right? (might be left) of centre but still between the speakers. 3) That is the remote control port for the security system/central locking etc. You push the remote in there and then do other things to change settings on one/two-stage door unlocks, horn chirp on lock/unlock etc etc. Also where you put a blank remote in order to key it into your immobiliser (must be pre-programmed by Toyota though). 4) Yes it is, essentially (1994 was the first year of the AE10x in Australia, was a mid-life upgrade but thats mostly trim and a bit of electronics). Much much more useful is the Gregorys workshop manual, number 271 I think it is, around $40-50 from your local Supercheap/Repco etc 5) Does the demister as a whole still work? You can get a special tape/paste thing from parts stores to fix the lines (kinda like liquid paper). If it still works, I personally wouldn't bother with it 6) Depends on how much a professional auto trimmer would charge 7) Maybe the seals just need to be changed, are they coming loose/tearing? The doors do normally need a firm shove to close, best thing is just to push the door firmly all the way home, don't stop until it's shut fully otherwise it'll only partly latch and not lock 8) Is it just fog/condensation or actual water? If it's condensation then the vent tubes are blocked/clogged/not working properly. If it's actual water then the seals on the light are failing, should be able to fix it with some silicone or the like. As for them fading, try polishing the lights with some toothpaste, that tends to do a good job on most tailights Any more questions don't hesitate to ask, I've built up quite a knowledge bank from working on my AE102, got the Gregorys manual too if you want anything out of it (can scan and post pictures), but I highly recommend getting one for yourself, they're quite comprehensive and essential if you're going to delve into any electrical or mechanical issues.
  22. What brightens my day: Knowing that none of the forums I post on are blocked at work. In fact, nothing seems to be blocked Optimist = Glass is half full Pessimist = Glass is half empty Physicist = Glass is 50% water and 50% air Engineer = Glass is twice as big as it needs to be I'm an engineer.
  23. Over in Fern Bay/Stockton? The reason it's called Newcastle Links is because thats where Newcastle Links (ie dunes-style) Golf Course is :bash:. Besides depending on the time of day it's only a 5 minute drive down to the Stockton ferry terminal, and a 5-minute ride (they run every 15 minutes) across the harbour to the CBD. Driving all the way around through Kooragang Island and then back through Mayfield would take you probably 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Or you could have just gone down to the RSL club in Stockton, or driven half an hour up Nelson Bay Rd to Port Stephens and had your pick of restaurants
  24. Out of curiousity, what motel was it? Newcastle is pretty spread out, so being out in the sticks isn't that hard (especially when you can include Lake Macquarie in the "Newcastle" area)
  25. I still live at home because 1) I'm still at uni 2) It's convenient 3) Only just started a job (ie today) that would have a chance of supporting me outside of home 4) My parents don't want me to move out and I've been complaining about the internet ever since about year 10 of high school, and thats 9 years ago now (and one of my parent's agrees with me, it's the stubborn one that has vetoed everything)
