1. I just purchased helper springs to fix this problem about 20 seconds ago... http://www.otomoto.com.au/p/8779317/hsd-helper-springs-with-locators.html
2. If you colour matched to your light brown body, I think it would look awesome. Hang it up on the wall :y: Looks cool and is near impossible to get damaged! I did it with an nice old Nardi I found.
3. The photo did the wheel justice, 20% of it was browning and the leather was like a strange gum. I took some extra time to wet polish up the spokes while I was getting my hands dirty. I'll get a better photo in the daylight. Very happy, cheers Reed.
4. What's the rubber feel like? My wheel is 6/10, contemplating doing this...
5. Please don't post anymore pictures than you have - I'm trying not to spend my savings for a house. Just please, for the love of god, don't.
6. I think they took the length of the sleeve off the strut or so... I told them I wanted the spring to be captive at around the half way mark on the sleeve. As the spring doesn't sit on the top hat too well, I think I might get a little more length on the tube by getting proper hats. Any knowledge on the pros and cons of helper springs? They seem like they would put the spring rate well out of wack. EDIT: I've done some research an understand them to my regular internet noob level. Does anyone know of somewhere that sell them as a kit? I've found that lovell and king makes the springs but I would like everything in a pack w/ locators and everything.
7. I got everything made up today. $1000 in parts and labour later and they're in. IMO - they got lazy and cut the strut way to short without measuring it all up correctly, the the spring to be captive in the hats, it has to be wound all the way up - hopefully converting to a spring hat and camber top combo will fix this a little bit. Please share experience with this :). I bolted it all in with the RCA's and it does already feel incredible to drive - even without adjusting the shocks and wheel alignment and stuff. I ended up having to chop half of the dust guard off the strut due to it fouling on the LCA. Annoying. Photo of said wound up captiveness. EDIT: Next time I am 110% going with a bolt in package from shockworks/AJPS or something - I don't think building them is much worth the ʞ©$ɟ around for saving a hundred or two.
8. Picking up a AJPS front lip on Friday - I'll paint it with colour matched paint, excited to see how it will look with a little fibreglass work. If it'll be a stupid amount of fab work, I'll stash it for a rainy day.
9. Obviously you switched the rubbers around as well?
10. They arrived! Struts are being cut and welded by Fab 81 in Labrador, some of their work is incredible and the guy I spoke to was friendly and didn't mind me asking question to learn about crap. I'll throw the coil overs in on Thursday - so I am booking in for new rubber and wheel alignment on Friday. I commemorated by throwing in the rear gear - I'm not entirely happy with the way that the springs sit in there (Doesn't centre perfectly at the top because of a slightly larger diameter), I might look in to using other rubbers. I took it for a drive and it already feels incredible compared to choppies and old shocks, and I haven't even touched the fronts. My exhaust no longer fouls on my diff and it can actually go over a bump without killing itself.
11. Coilover sleeves - Owned KYB AGX Shocks - Ordered Summit Racing to ages to process my order and sent them out a full week after payment, a little grumpy as people have had parts from them a land in Aus a 7 days out from payment. I just want my coils in! 5KG otomoto springs - ARRIVED KYB Excel G Commo shocks - ARRIVED Celica King Springs for rear - ARRIVED AJPS RCAs - ARRIVED
12. In my opinion, on a car so young - if the gauge is fine, then the temperature is fine. On most cars the needle should read a little under half way on the dial. You bought a new car and naturally, you are 'nit-picking'. If you are still worried, take it to a reputable mechanic.
13. What do you mean "Feels"?
14. Thanks mate! It was my first decent sized body job. The paint is nice from far and far from nice :D The pictures are definitely doing it justice but that's exactly right - imperfection can be more fun if you don't mind it!
15. I have ordered all the parts I need to convert the front to coil-overs and put something decent in the rear. Summit racing in the states have been really slow in the shipping process for my KYB AGX's and are apparently getting them posted tomorrow. I have almost everything else though! Finally got to work. Filler and paint, put in a couple of days trying to get the best result possible. It's red again! My home booth
16. Oh my good lord jesus christ...
17. Bank account copping an absolute flogging after a midnight decision to get started upgrading. Coilover sleeves - Owned KYB AGX Shocks - Ordered 5KG otomoto springs - Ordered KYB Excel G Commo shocks - Ordered Celica King Springs for rear - Ordered AJPS RCAs - Ordered I'm still snooping around for some top hats and camber tops and XT130 LCAs. And some KU31's will be on the front with relatively decent tyres for the back. Grip grip grip grip grip grip. CANNOT WAIT!
18. So that sold in under three hours... wow.
19. The crank angle sensor gave out today, as quickly as it started - I have to break up with the Kombi. It will be hastily converted into Corolla parts. If anyone would like a cheap, already engine swapped Kombi that needs a little work, holla at me.
20. I asked if there was a Toyota, Corolla or something along the lines of that based on the Gold Coast or Brisbane - "I have found a couple of candidates that I could resort to to get some track time and stuff - however something Toyota/Japanese would be terrific." Meaning I could head to one of these clubs if I cannot find something more suitable. And just because the closest tracks aren't on the Gold Coast definitely doesn't mean that clubs aren't BASED on the Gold Coast; I'll use these guys to reinforce that - http://gctmc.org.au/ GOLD COAST AND TWEED motor sporting club. TL;DR - I'm still looking for a Toyota/Corolla/Vintage Japanese type club if there is one that exists. EDIT: I'm aware of where the closest tracks are - I'm looking for a club, not a track.
21. http://www.toyotareference.com/ Toyota > Corolla > 71-74 I have confirmed with a couple of sources that the colour code is - Orange (308) As I said though - for legitimacy give toyota a call.
22. Asking Toyota directly is always the most accurate and legitimate way. However - this seems pretty legit: http://www.toyotaref...rolla/1971-1974 My 5 minutes of googling tells me that it is Orange (308) with the name of [background=rgb(220, 220, 220)]Brilliant Persimmon[/background] EDIT: If you are just touching up an area of a small panel repair; don't get the original colour of paint, get it paint matched by an auto paint specialist as the original paint would have faded at least a couple of shades. If you're doing a full respray - do whatever you like.
23. At the end of the day - if you go off the long was and just get your licenses, you can jump on the track whenever you like. To find a club that would suit you and be in a reasonable distance I recommend this CAMS club finder - http://www.cams.com....ubs/club-finder Don't be afraid to scope out some of the MG motorsporting clubs etc, I know a few MG guys and they are more than happy to take on a stray. I'm under the impression that majority of clubs aren't strict at all as to what you drive... I'm enquiring into some of the 'umbrella' type clubs anyway - like the major motorsporting clubs. Brisbane etc. I hope this helped! Good to hear some others are in to the grip thing and not drift pigging. I would love the opportunity to race around with some other corollas! EDIT: to be direct if anyone on the Gold Coast was looking - this is the club in my first preference - http://www.gctmc.org.au
24. I have found a couple of candidates that I could resort to to get some track time and stuff - however something Toyota/Japanese would be terrific. Thanks DJM - I'll be looking in to that :)
