I can tell you from experience, it WILL be worse than it looks. I had exactly the same 'little bits of rust' on an AE92 more than once, and you'll find gaping holes behind there. That said, its not a huge deal to yank that screen out, patch it up and get a new one. Most places only charge less than $250 to supply and fit a screen.

Pretty much. Charge it up at a machine or online, leave in wallet, wave wallet at any machine/turnstile/register, deducts value. Display on machine shows you remaining balance. No bank charges whatsoever. Most Japanese phones actually have the wafer chip built into the case now, so you don't even need the card.

Cash ftw. I pay cash everywhere I can. You'd all hate Japan, Eftpos doesn't exist :P Credit cards *sometimes* (hotels etc) but otherwise its cash or Pasmo/Suica cards (which are a much, MUCH better idea than debit cards anyway...)
