Well thanks for all the info, ill have another look at the engine and see if I can tell the difference. I didnt know those letters actually ment something what do ya know. I thought points with coil were the only way of doing it, but I'm prolly wrong.
-
that does help, thanks for that. The manifold part is no probs because we are putting some velocity pipes on instead. Also I am a boilermaker by trade so I can weld and fab anything thats needed. I can get a fitter from work to make a flywheel.
-
Your in cairns and have 3 ke70, I'm in airlie beach, maybe we can work something out if I end up doing this.
-
But a 4age beats them both hands down.
-
Ahh yes it is an AL25. That does seam a prob with the large gearbox, if I get my hands on a ke70 ill measure it all up.
-
ground clearance? or component clearance?
-
Yeah on the build plate it says 3ac, the the engine says 4ea, so I'm thinking somone has put this engine in after.
-
Its build is 4/84. Picked it up at an auction for $200. edit: its a SR5

here are some pics i took of it today. the north-south 4a-e the gearbox and transfercase rear diff So seeing these pics, do you think its possible to turn an old ke70 or similar into 4x4. I'm thinking... adding a 4age, (which I have 2 off) using the tercel 5speed gearbox/transfer case connecting the ke70 rwd diff to the shaft and doing some custom work and replace the front tercel running gear into the ke70. Possible?
-
I picked up an old tercel 4x4 with a 4a-e, I want to put the 4x4 running gear in an old rwd rolla with a 4age, Do you know if the gearbox bellhousing from the tercel will fit a 4age? I really want to put the gear in my ae82 but i see alot of custom work for that.
-
ae82 exactly the response I was after, thanks!
-
Can anyone tell me what rollas were released with the 4A-E? Also if any other gearbox is interchangeable with this engine.

thicker, longer and stronger high sensile bolt replacments for the rear strut bar. Got another whole *working* seca for parts for real cheap. Took it out for a bash on a friends track suspension needed work. Got Boge shocks with king springs, never buy boge, they are shit! KYB on there way with a much heavier thicker spring for the front from king spring.

I did like 6 things wrong in my test, he started to go through them one by one and I'm like this is going to be a fail for sure, but at the end he said i passed, he said none of them were instant fails and i scraped in by 1%.
-
Yes I think I would be easy and cheaper to just buy a gt4

They were a very advanced car for there time. quad overhead cam, hydraulic suspension, electric seats with warmers, I forget the rest but allot of amazing stuff for a car designed in the 80's. You can import one for around $6-7k +fees/rego with under 100,000km... not bad for a car worth $120k new. Very smooth ride, with a crap load of buttons and gadgets inside. I remember looking at the massive dash console with all the buttons, then flipped the center console expecting a storage space like all other cars, but it had more buttons in there, its like a plane cockpit. I would love to do up the interior of one of these.

You must of prevoked him in some way, unless this guy is like 8 yo.

Well i am a biolermaker by trade and my father is a mechanical engineer, but the gearbox/diff will cost to much alone. How much is a brand new TRD?
-
did some google research, the ZZ models come out with an auto only awd and continued for a few years. can't see them anywhere for sale. A manual conversion seems easy then an awd conversion.
-
meh, I don't think its worth it. Does anyone have a link to a car for sale that is an awd hatch? Or has anyone ever seen one for sale?
-
I have an ea82 seca and I'm wondering if its possible to convert to awd, I see the aus rally awd corolla that isn't avail to public. Do the awds still have the east west engine setup? The awds are very rare to see and are mostly those crappy wagons. Do the ae82s have the body to support an awd gearbox with the shaft and rear diff? Has anyone done anything like this before? I see a place for a shaft on the inside, but not really under the car. Does anyone have any photos of the awd driveline to share?

Thanks for the pics, looks like a good job, but you see what I mean with the thread? the nuts are flush with the thread without the plate weakening the nuts with the plate by taking couple of threads away. There isnt much upwards force so I guess this would be ok. how thick is the plate? 1mil? Thanks for the brake link also I didnt know about it.
-
me too AE82 Seca Twincam 1987

thanks for all the links, ill check them out. I was planning to make it up but the thread on the towers are so small, no more room for plate. How did you do it? different model? got pics? cheers again
