Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Here's the different shot of the 2 columns together. Ke70 on the right & Ae71 on the left. But anyway if someone happens to have a flat front ke70 that they are wrecking or what not could you please let me know if you have the part that might help me out. Here's the link to my wtb thread with a picture of what i'm chasing. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=25762 Cheers tom -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Ok i found out that the ae71 and ke70 steering columns aren't the same (therefore not interchangeable) as i found out after wasting a few hours of my time. At first i was only going to swap the engine bay side of the column over but have found out the ae71 parts are a complete 180 degrees around than the ke70 column (the ae71 unbolt from the top end and ke70 unbolt from both top and bottom end). So i decided to just go and swap the entire column over but the ae71 is about an inch to short. After all the swapping around, i had to go back to what i originally had in there and is still no good for me. So all the people out there wanting to know if it works or not, the answer is No. You've just got to find one thats already made for a 70 instead of trying a 71 one. -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Cheers mate, but unfortunately the engine cross members aren't the same because otherwise the ke70 and ae71 would both have a 4a in them. but cheers for your help though. -
Hey guys, just wondering but my steering is playing up and i have found out from my mechanic that its the knuckle kinda seizing up where the steering column from the firewall joins up to the steering rack. The car itself is a 1981 Ke70 sedan, but i do happen to have a spare ae71 sedan parts car sitting on the lawn that the steering is fine in so i was wondering if anyone knew if i could use the ae71 bottom half of the steering column to replace my ke70 one? Any help muchly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tom

Cheers for that teddy, i now know that i'm definately missing the hard line from condensor to firewall top plug, an i can't use my ae71 lines for some reason so does anyone have any pics for me please so i can use it as a guide as where to run the lines and show me which line i do need for sure. Cheers tom

Hey guys, I'm installing the air con back into my girlfriends ke70 and have a couple of things i'm not so sure with how they run through the engine bay without interfering with other things. I've had a bit of a search and found teddy's "Installing air con into a ke70 that didn't come out from factory with it", but i'm pretty sure i'm missing the hard line that goes from the "out" side of the receiver to the top metal bit on the cooling unit. But just to make sure on how things go, is there anyone out there still running air con in there ke70 that could take a few detailed pics from there engine bay just to make sure i've got it how it's meant to be? So i can suss out exactly what else i need to get or to see what i could possibly use from any other cars around. If you can upload pics here please do, but if not could you please send them to [email protected]. Cheers in advance people. Tom

Hey mate, I'm not quite sure about getting new rear seats but a majority of people just put some nice seat covers over them to tidy them up or if you can afford a few $'s, have a look through the for sale section & cars that are being wrecked (or parted out) as some people do have overrated seats for sale aswell as other interior parts that they could help you out with. Where abouts are you located for those people out there that could help you out?

Yeah all you need is to get a good earth on the car, and then the other wire left over goes to the negative (-) of the coil. :y:

Hey mate i bought 3 of my aftermarket steering wheels form the toyota wreckers from a mate and they've all had the bosskits attached. I got one from a dv10 wide body camry, one from a lite ace van and also another one from a sv21 camry to & put 2 of them onto a ae71 corolla & ke70 plus the other went onto my 94 hilux so in theory a toyota boss kit will suit most models but you can'tr be to sure these days. Cheers

lol i love the pig look.......but unfortunately the cop's don't like it for some reason. :hmm: can't figure out why though lol It's still good none the less, even if a bus desides it wants to come out in front of you :sob: lol
-
Hey mate love the look of this ke and the way that it goes! Nice work with what you have done so far :no2:
-
Otherwise this will be pretty much directly in line with where it is now with a slight angle into the fuel tank but i don't really like the spot where it is :)
-
And here's where i'd like to ideally put it so it doesn't get in they way of any loads that i might be carrying.

Quite possible......not a bad idea silverra23. will look into it tomorrow. I got a chance to pull apart the fuel filler neck and suss it all out just before and its going to be alright to use 50mm hose so i just need to suss out the placement and all for it. I tried to upload a couple of pics of how it is but unfortunately the files are just over the 1mb maximum size :)
-
cheers for the help but unfortunately thats not quite gonna help us :) lol but i think its time to check ebay and hit up a few wreckers and see what they might have.
-
cheers Taz_Rx but i need it for my daily. my hilux trayback as i need to relocate my fuel filler cos i've lowered the ute 3inches and lowered the tray another 2 so it makes filling up a little hard at times. I know i'm on rollaclub but it doesn't hurt to ask a question that some people might no an answer to. cheers

Hey guys any chance that someone could help us find somewhere that has 54mm or possibly just a couple of mm bigger flexible fuel filler hose. I'm located on the gold coast in labrador and have already tried today super cheap auto, repco, autobarn, global auto spares, flexible hose supplies and gibbs trucking and accessories but have had no luck. Flexible hose supplies only have 50mm and 57mm in a hose that if it has alot of pressure on it where i bend it the fractions that i need it bent it could make a bad situation worse :) Any help would be muchly appreciated Cheers tom

Yeah that's the same thing i thought when i was doing the conversion. With the ae86's they said you didn't need a mod plate because they actually did come factory with a 4age in them, but seen as the ae71's never came out factory with a 4age anywhere in the world (correct me if i'm wrong) they did need one. Also my mechanic that i went through for my rwc and mod plate were happy with new springs, shocks and brake pads and they passed it 1st go. Queensland transport modifications office also said that i didn't need to upgrade my brakes unless i was exceeding the engine capacity by more than 10%. Even though there is an ridiculous amount of power difference between the 4ac and the 4age (whether its big or smallport) it's not exceeding the engine capacity at all, it's 1.6L vs 1.6L. But it's always a great idea to work on your brakes and suspension if your putting something more powerful in there compared to the stock 4ac. :P

With the new laws, any modifications that require a "modification plate" aren't legal for L or P plate drivers to drive in qld (not sure on other states). I had a smallport 4age in my ae71 & a bucket seat at the beginning of last year and to do it properly (even though the ae71 came stock with the 4ac) queensland transport told me i'd need it mod plated cos the ae71 didn't come out stock with the 4age (plus to make my car as legal as possible i needed the mod plate for the seat). If it had then there was no need for a mod plate (for the engine conversion) and would have still been legal. Its about the only time i'd really listened to them n i'm glad that i did. The 1st night on the road with my 4age me n a couple of mates headed to springbrook when most of the drifters used to go up there, and not really to our surprise, highway patrol ended up crashing the party. My matte black ae71 was the 1st car that they went over (obviously because of the colour) & 1st thing he said to me was "have u got a mod plate for the seat, and if so where is it?". Mine was in the engine bay like every other car and as soon as i popped the bonnet, he goes" thats not the stock engine, these only come out carbied!" i told him the engine conversion is covered on the plate, same as the seat! Finally after a licence and rego check he said to us "lucky you have that mod plate otherwise you wouldn't be driving this home tonight, now get the f*** out of here!" Even though i was on my P's and the new laws weren't out yet, it was still a hassle even for us. All I can say is the choice is up to you whether or not you wish to spend a few hundred of your hard earned $$$'s on fines and the possibility of them suspending your licence and what not or just having a bit of fun in your stock as a rock rolla. i know which i'd preffer. sorry bout the lengthiness of the "short story".

yeah thats what I'm thinking of 2 but thats not until 2morrow so I'm just trying to suss somethings out atm til then.

hey guys ive got my ae71 4age daily that ive just run into a problem on friday, that the car just died while driving along, then after 10 mins of trying without anything working it started up again. It's done it 3 times on friday and the last time it broke down near a shopping centre, so i decided it was the battery playing up and went and bought another 1........ Put it in n started all good until last nite when i went to get into it and drive home but it done it again with the new battery. any1 mite have any ideas on what it might be????? any help muchly appreciated cheers tom
-
hey mate just wondering, but if your under the new laws doesn't that also class no engine mods (like conversions) under those laws?????
-
cheers all for the replies.....thanks brad for the commodore idea, i bought some kyb excel g one's this arvo and they're already in the car and feel quite comfortable....now all thats left to settle is something for the fronts :P lol
-
yeah i know they are short, my mate has chopped kingy's in his ke70 with the sierra shocks but i am unable to get a hold of him for a bit to ask him which one's i need to order....my main concern is still the front shocks that i would like to put a shorter stroke option in without changing struts to ae86 struts as i've already had enough fun putting the cressida control arms and stuff in so the less stuffing around the better hopefully. cheers
