Yeah very true, but according to my mate he had it changed over by an auto elecy, watched him get it off the shelf & swap them over but yeah i dunno the whole thing because i wasn't there when it happened lol. i think the next best thing to do this arvo would br to pull the alternator off & take it somewhere to be checked hey, cause unfortunately my car isn't rego'd yet :|

Hi there guys, As some of you may have read, i recently bought an 83 model ke70 & it has a brand new battery in it but the alternator isn't charging. The alternator looks like its brand new & just come off the shelf. I've had a search through here & google and have found a couple of diagrams to make sure it's all wired up properly (which it seems to be), but it still doesn't seem to be charging. There is a thick white wire & a smaller yellow/white trace wire that go from the engine bay fuse box into a 2 pin plug on the alternator. They have power when the car is off. There is also a small black wire on the rear housing that has a connector on the end but does also have a clear plastic covering on it to stop it from being unprotected. Does it need to be connected to an earth or power of some sort? Also i found a dash wiring diagram for it because the charge light doesn't come on when the key is turned into the "IGN" position. It says that the wire in the dash cluster for the charge + (positive) is Yellow, & the charge - (negative) is Black/Orange. The charge + has power when the key isn't turned on & the charge - only has power in "IGN" position. The bulb hasn't blown & still works in any other spot but the charge light position. Is there anyone out there that could possibly shed some light on my situation??? It's a bosch alternator with a sticker on the back saying "Bosch 0 120 484 033, kn--14v 14/85a, made in spain", if that helps. Here's a couple of pics i've taken to hopefully help out. Cheers for looking. Tom 1. Small black wire 2. 2 pin plug. (Thick white & small yellow/white wire) 3. Fuse Box (Engine Bay) A. Is the charge fuse still in tact. B. Is where the thick white wire connects on the fuse box. C. Is where the small yellow/white wire connects on the fuse box 4. Dash Plug D. Charge - (negative) E. Charge + (positive)

haha well the best thing is that i haven't painted it this colour, i just bought it like it is. I'm sure there isn't any down your way that are this colour. It's the colour that made me buy the car in the first place :|

Lol i'd love to man but this is gonna be my pretty much stock last xE7x for a while. Maybe plans could change if i find a cheap enough rusted ae71 for cheap, but i doubt it! I also got a nikki carby from brad (beerhead) yesterday, so when the time comes that i have some cash i'll be getting a mild cam for it just to get a little extra power out of the 4k :|
-
Cheers for the comments guys, really appreciated. Wayne i reckon your seca looks pretty good for how cheap it was mate. Good work. Also i've done a search but couldn't find what i'm after, does anyone know where i might be able to find a diagram to find out what colour the charge light wire is behind the dash cluster in the ke70??? I've got the dash apart inside & there doesn't appear to be the same colour wire as to whats in the engine bay coming from the alternator. Anyone that can point me in the right direction?? Cheers Tom

Lols yeah we call hers the cat-piss rolla :| its pretty tidy itself & it goes alright for an auto 4k haha & yeah i hope to have it going on the road within the next few weeks as soon as i can figure out this alternator wiring :D it's the only thing stopping me from doing all the other stuff at the moment.

Hey mate, cheers for the kind words. With my old 71 i had lowered king springs (40mm) + chopped 2 coils & they gave me -3.9 degrees (negative) camber which was quite alright. A mate of mine ran the same suspension setup as me but he had sigma lca's & he ended up with the same (-3.9) as me. It looked tough as from the front. But with stock suspension or just fractionally lowered i think it's about -2 degrees or there abouts. And yeah i just :) the orange hey, it suits the shape of 70/71 just right! I was thinking of the 2 tone aswell but the more orange the better i reckon

Here's a shot of the engine bay, mighty 4k power lol & a family shot of the girlfriend's yellow 70, her brothers half sanded 71 & my 70

Hey guys, My name's tom & I thought it's about time i posted up about 1 of my corolla's lol. It just so happens that bought it from a mate of mine during the week. Cheers Josh  I've previously had 3 ke70's & 4 ae71's over the year's (1 with a 100kw 4age which has been sold for a couple of years now & missed every day lol), but this is my final 1 that i'm allowed for a while. EDIT: Alright there's been a change in plans. I had recently bought the orange ke70 off my mate, then i got offered a swap for my girlfriends younger brothers ae71 with a smallport rwd converted 4age engine, loom & ecu. Specs on the orange ke70 were as follows: 83 model slant front ke70 sedan Custom orange paint job. Pair of 14" hotwires on front. Pair of 14" 5 spoke mullins on the rear. 4k, 5 speed, extractors & exhaust done by the owner before last. Lowered on cut springs at the moment (I think but i haven't jacked her up yet to see what we're dealing with). Did have half stripped interior (no back seats, no door trims or roof lining) but have since put rear seats back in. Neighbourhood watch sticker on rear bumper over the exhaust & the gingerbread man drift toy on the otherside. Also came with a front lip, a spare boot & 14 wheels all up. (A set of stock steelies, a set of ke70 csx alloys, a set of 14" mullins 5 spokes & a pair of 14" hotwires). I'll update the full specs on the ae71 a bit later on. Cheers Tom

Mazfix Performance - Apprentice Wanted
Rola Drifter replied to 21-BJF's topic in Automotive Discussion
A mate of mine just started working as a 1st year apprentice at k-mart tyre n auto on the coast and he's mature age taking home $500 a week, so i think its a bit more than 6.90 an hour. But with that being said, it also depends on the workplace possibly whether its a small workshop that only employs a few people & need to keep costs down or if the workplace wants incentives from the government to give the mature ages a go. -
Mazfix Performance - Apprentice Wanted

Are they interested in a mature age Apprentice or someone a bit younger? -
Hey guys i'm not sure if there's going to be anymore updates on this ride. Richies started his new ke25 project and all the good bits from this 71 are going into it. You'll see a pic of the 71 about half way down the page of how it was not to long ago. Here's a link to the new project http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=26212

Hey mate, are you sure you got the right car?? Or was that post meant for Mr Ae71?? This 1 only has white & black interior at the moment. The outside of the car is all matte black & also unregistered sitting in the driveway at home lol Was the one you seen white from the base of the windows up & black on the bottom with a "winterkill" sticker on the front or rear window?? Cheers Tom

Nissan Skyline Motor In A Ke70 Can I Be Moved
Rola Drifter replied to madmax7's topic in Engine Conversions
http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=19781 nissan 180sx's also have an sr20det in them but there's no difference between silvia sr's and 180sx sr's. Just have a search through people ride's and projects and see what information you can come up with. Tom -
He's from the gold coast. & nah he's owned quite a few cars but not an s13. Here's what it looks when it rains lol
-
Hey mate, When i got my exhaust made up for a 4age in my ae71 i went to gold coast mufflers beside ferry road mcdonalds in southport and they weren't all that good. The welds were messy & even had a few holes were the welds should have gone, which resulted in exhaust leak. :) I ended up getting it fixed by ashmore exhaust which are a bit pricey but it was better than the leaks i originally had & they done it straight away for me. Not exactly what you might have wanted to hear but it's nice to learn from what other people have experienced. Cheers Tom

Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Really? Because i was playing around with it trying to get that part to come down more so it could reach the steering knuckle (cause i really didn't want to change it all back after all that time) and the only way that i could move it down more is if i took the circlip out that hold the ignition barrel onto the column but if i'd done that, then i'd have less column at the top in the car & i didn't really want to not put a circlip back where it should be. Have you got any photos of the setup by chance?? cheers tom -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Cheers D1doony  although thats not what i'm trying to get across, but then again just because we all know for a fact that 1 thing from an ae71 is a direct bolt in to a ke70 doesn't mean that we can all assume everything else does. cheers -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Well fat bastard customs all i can tell you is that if your going to just swap the columns over then it wont reach completely to the steering rack just like i've pictured up top, but it could be possible that if you put the ae71 column and steering rack in then it could work. (i'm not sure at all as i didn't even try to put the ae71 steering rack in) but if someone has some spares lying around then they might be able to help out if they have some spare time. cheers -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Yeah true, but seen as nobody knew i didn't really waste my time in the end did i? I now have been able to share this little bit of knowledge that other people didn't know! So next time i'm having a look through the forums, If someone comes up with a question that i may have come across before (& done) i might: A: Read the topic title and the first post to get an idea of what it's about! B: Think to myself (if you could do that) can i actually help this person out (cause i've done it before)! & C: Stay on the topic of what the post was about! -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Of course mate, i thought the same thing as that's why i put the post up to begin with so i could get confirmation from people who have actually tried or were beside a mate at the time they were actually doing it on whether or not it would work. If i was up for having a "stab in the dark" i would have just gone ahead and tried it without checking to see if anyone knew if i was wasting my time or not. -
Ae71 & Ke70 Steering Column To Rack
Rola Drifter replied to Rola Drifter's topic in Automotive Discussion
Look mate i wasn't being a smart ass or anything like that about your reply, but seen as you obviously couldn't read the topic title or what i had put in the first post about steering columns, you "CLEARLY" weren't following as your "ASSUMING" that the steering columns were the same. Have you personally tried to put an ae71 steering column into a ke70 to bolt upto the steering rack??? Also there's a bit of a difference between saying that the "engine cross member's are the same" and "the ae cross member bolts into the ke70" don't you think?
