Hi Donald
Its clealy a 4k With dished pistons and could well be a 4ku,
Most if not all austalian delivered 5k heads will suit it
Just swap over valve rockergear.
Type of head you want is easily recogniced by lumps under sparkplug 1 and 4
I wouldnt worry about casting numbers
Cheers
-
Have seen on forums 4k-U has become the popular term for a dished pistoned 4k . Some 4kj , regular 4k and 4ke also came with dished pistons
Some 4k-U also came with flat top pistons. If you do a bit of partnumber crossreferencing on toyodiy, youll find some 4k and 5k shared heads.
both flat top vertions and dished vertions.
-
you can use a 5K head With lumps under 1 and 4 spark plug
-
dynamic compression wont be same if 4k was worn and 5k is fresh
Was head cc ever measured ?
-
So its a hilux diff thats been narrowed to ke70 spec that your putting into a ke30 ?
Sounds like youll need a coustom driveshaft as well as ke30 diff mounts
-
Nah, not the same. ke3 is about 1365 mm and ke7 about 1410mm
-
Liked them when they were new. Still do :2thumbs:

Nice find. Tip for ID.ing it : D is 208mm front to rear head flange and T is about. 225mm
-
60.1mm, old Mazda Wheels need a slight grind. They`ll go on, problem is getting them off again ;)
-
Looks like a ke50 to me but if you have doubt just make a paper template and send to seller for comparing

If you prefere castrol Id use this one. Let us know how you go. Good luck :

Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF (Replaces SMX S 75w-85)
Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF (replaces Castrol SMX S 75w-85) is recommended for most manual transmissions where API GL-4 lubricants are required. It has been used successfully as a problem solver in the manual transmissions of a number of manufacturers.
-
Id use a full synthetic 75w90 GL4 oil instead.
Youre using a diff oil not suited for syncros

Is there any differences between a 4A T50 and a T50 that suits a 2TGEU.
I know the bell housing would be different. Will the 4A bolt up to the other version?
Are there any other difference is should be aware of?
I am in need of fixing the gearbox in my AE71. Has issues selecting 2nd gear when downshifting from 3rd gear? Bought the car like this 4 months ago. I have replaced all the synchros. It is better but still annoying.
Depends what year 2tgeu it came from. They came from 78 to 85? so wont be from a ta22 originally but still could be 20 or 22 spline (smal/large input bearing)
what oil are you using?
-
Happy to help
Good luck
-
-21deg celsius? Hope you got a warm garage
You could get a earlier bell and mill out hole for input bearing but
better to get right parts to start with
Youll need the coustom 22 spline driveshaft for the 20V swap anyways then..
what car is it in now?
-
Advice sometimes depends on your location so good idea to put it in your profile.
North America, right? Not much Ta22 around I'm guessing.
As mentioned better off with a 81`or older 20 spline T50 from a TE7 corolla
or even better a pre 79? t50 from a Te3 or te5 corolla. Latter have shifters in correct position
Te7 boxes has the shifter 10 cm further back so bit of bodywork needed to fit.
Using 20 spline t50 saves you the cost of making a coustom driveshaft
You can use k40 crossmember along with t50 trns.mount to fit.
Id be looking for a te3 donor car for gearbox , pedalbox, hydroclutch setupp, engine crossmember, bigger brakes++
or 4ag it instead of 2t as you already have some of the driveline
Ae86 t50 are better but will either need a post 82 T bellh or some milling or lathe work done to a pre 82 bell
+ coustom driveshaft.
rwd 4age gearboxes and bells are worth a fair bit more than 2T stuff on most markets, don't know about north America tho
All about supply and demand I recon
-
Should I even swap the motor do you guys think it's worth it?
Car looks good I woudnt swap out a good 3T for a 4ag.
If anything Id look into changing the steeringbox for rack and pinion from a AE
and I'm not a fan of US bumpers.
But if you love the way it looks and drives why change it ?
-
guess youre thiking of a phantom grip lsd
-
Not trying to excuse seller but could be a nice item

5K Air, Fuel, Exhaust
in General Mechanical

Theres two types of standard exhaust manifolds, 4 - 1 and 4 - 2. Recomend 4-2 style,
Matching exhaustports may not be a good idea. Having larger ports in manifold than head
apperantly helps avoiding exhaust gas revertion
