  1. Wasn't supposed to happen this way, but the mounts showed up and I couldn't resist! A couple of questions: engine will be sitting much more level when gearbox is attached, yes? At the moment the back is sitting on the (cough) steering cross member (cough). Also, the driver's side mount isn't sitting down fully in the mounting cradle, its sitting up by about 8mm, and there is no obvious reason for this. (clearance all the way around the engine) Any ideas? Went with 3mm plate (free, LOL) Not the easiest to shape or cut... Turned out pretty well.
  2. Don't know what sort of gearbox the 2L uses, but a rotor box will definitely physically fit in the tunnel, as this model actually had a few factory fitted with rotary engines, was called an RX9
  3. Slightly off topic, but is a corona box much stronger than a T50? Can you use one with a 4age by bolting an A series bellhousing to the front of it?
  4. Don't try and drag this keto... It runs some serious numbers, LOL
  5. -No -Too many factors to say a typical cost, like what sort of 4age, are you doing it yourself etc. etc. -About 8L/100 km? -Google and other searches are your friend.
  6. Been a while, think I'm going to need robotic jaws. :D Thankfully, the back of the crossmember, where the front suspension tie rod (?) and sway bar bracket mounts is untouched. I am thinking of not cutting out this rust, rather wire brushing and rust converting then boxing in over and past the rusted areas. I think I'll need something stronger and thicker than the 1mm steel I have got for panel patching. Would 2mm zinc steel sheet be thick enough? Also will MIG welds have enough strength/penetration?
  7. Wouldn't bother with a weber unless you are going for a largish port. 13Bs first came out in RX4's I think 1973 was the first model. A rebuilt 12a or 13b isn't cheap, and a non-rebuilt one isn't worth it. I own one and love it, but there are cheaper ways to get performance IMHO.
  8. I'm not sure, but I thought lowering blocks would have 4 holes for the U bolts to go through to hold them in place. Could be completely wrong though... Can't wait to see finished shell.
  9. 7afe low blow turbo, Toyota did a factory version called Corolla Sportivo.
  10. Technically I'd say you've got an AE85, nice car anyway.
  11. O.K. so your not a fan and don't appreciate the accomplishment of just finishing this event. I agree that there are more important things than Dakar and your sentiment regarding world poverty is admirable. I have made a difference to world poverty by sponsoring a kid (2 kids, one after the other) through World Vision for more than 10 years. So that's 9,999,998 kids to go.
  12. Good points but; Dakar also brings in large sums of money into the economies of the countries it passes through, which those economies will be without this year, causing more suffering. Also to me Dakar is about man striving to conquer incredible obstacles, and I think the human race needs to be able to do and see feats like this. We need to aspire to do extraordinary things, otherwise why bother?
  13. What about race/rally import? A lightened/prepped one would be a reasonable Targa weapon...isn't Neil Bates due for another lash at Targa Tas. :drgrim:
  14. Or how long 'til someone imports a JDM blade master

(Best Marcia Hines impression) "Now that's what I'm talkin' about!" I reckon the head characteristics would be very similar to a 7/4afe
  16. AE82 radiator looks almost "factory" AE82 loom plugs straight into all TE71 connections on steering colomn, indicators, headlights, gotta love Toyotas Not transferable parts so far: brake and clutch pedal assemblies, dash board. Surprisingly; the AE82 shell is quite a few cms wider than the TE71 shell.
  17. Anyone put one into an early corolla? Lots of potential, I rekon.
  18. Got a bit overwhelmed with the enormity of it all today, so I got away from the shell and worked of these today. They have all had the major rust removed and surface rust treated with rust converter. To finish them will be a matter of fabricating patches for big holes and welding them in (rust converting the welds), reo boging small holes, bogging any minor panel inperfections, then painting with Tremclad. Also swapped some more parts AE82 => TE71, its quite amazing the similarities: Tail light bulb mounts are the same. Accellerator mount is the same, just had to bend past the pivot point to line up with cable hole.
  19. ...also world's easiest V6 Turbo conversion (common intake and exhaust)
  20. You can use your existing gearbox, shafts etc. just don't expect it to last very long.
  21. W a y out of left field, probably cost too much, but one of those VW 15 degree V6's would definitely fit, R32 engines give standard WRXs a scare. Would need custom bellhousing as is FWD only.
  22. Good point, I have never been a fan of a straight arm driving style either. I suppose I could also mount the pedals back a bit (I'm a shortarse) and slightly improve the fore/aft weight distribution.
  23. The first part to get transplanted, LOL The twinky wheel will sit a good couple of centimetres further back (towards driver) than standard, has anyone else put one in a T18 or similar? Did you modify anything to get it to sit forward? (back closer to dash, as factory) Or was it O.K. being a bit closer?
  24. Thank God (and Steve down the road) for Prepwash! A couple of hours, a bit of cleaning and elbow grease, no evidence left of the vandalism... Happy New Year!
