/begin rant Well firstly, after watching the news tonight and hearing about another P plate crash that cost 4 guys lives, I decided that it would be a good place to vent some rage about how much I hate P-plate-driving-"professionals" in commodores. 99.9% of them are absolute tossers and think that they are are king shit because they can do some fully sick screechy-screechy wheel action infront of you or think they are hektic dr1f7er5. I swear everytime I hear of a P plate crash on the news, it is a P plater behind the wheel of a commonwhore who has been going 50kmph over the speed limit who wrapped the car around a tree or telephone pole killing his passengers. Gives me the shits as they are the cause of us P plater's bad reputation. Secondly, I get pissed off by people who give way at round abouts when they should be going through them. :P Some people seem to think that you give way to your left at roundabouts, which just creates much confusion and horn beeping. L2drive :D Third and finally, soccer mums in 4x4s = bad. period. /end rant -Alex

That sounds like it could have been the case. My mate doesn't exactly have much lawn to mow, so the whipper-snipper probably doesnt get used alot, so neither would the spare tin of fuel. Might have seperated from sitting for ages, but can't really be sure. All is sorted now so I'm happy. Just gotta get some smaller jets for the carbie and it'll be even better. :P -Alex

Hahaha that is a great idea!

20L of petrol and 2hours of tuning later, the car runs perfectly again :P Ran it dry like 7shades suggested, then topped it up with enough fuel to get me to the servo then put 20L of REAL unleaded in it. Got it home and cleaned the carbie out and the plugs, then it was a matter of tune, test drive up the road then repeat until I got a steady idle at about 1100RPM. Ironically the dramas happened as soon as the engine clocked onto 330 000km so it is quite an old engine (K series so has alot longer to go :y: ) so yes, the rings are badly worn and the whole engine could do with a rebuild. I would have already done a rebuild on the engine by now, but as it is a daily driver, I don't have time to take it off the road. Might just build up a 5K with dad at home on the bench and replace the 4K one day. See what happens... :) Again, thankyou to everyone who replied, very appreciated :) <3 Rollaclub -Alex

Ok, thanks for all your input guys. I think "Just flog the bejesus out of it until you run it dry... it'll fix itself up." sounds like my favourite option, I'm in the mood for having a heavy right foot. I'll run it dry then clean out everything to be safe. Mmmm, that could be one of the problems for its rough idle then. Seems to run fine over 3000RPM but anything under that is terribad. I think that the idle jet controls fuel for anything under that mark (so I've heard) so I'll clean the jet and see if that helps. Thanks for the fast replys, I'll see what happens after a good ol' flogging :y: -Alex

Well, last night I ran out of fuel about 100metres away from a mates place, so I went to see him to see if he had any spare jerry cans of fuel laying around. Anyway, he gave me a little can and said that it was regular unleaded. Under the assumption that it was, I put about 3 litres of it into the tank which was all i needed to get to the servo. Unfortunatley I realised as soon as the car started that it wasnt just regular unleaded, so I said to him "You sure this is Unleaded?" to which he replied, "Oh wait, I think that is the 2stroke premix for the wipper-snipper...." :y: . I managed to get to the servo where I put about 10L of unleaded into the car, hoping that it would dilute the premix and make it pass through the engine easier. Well, I got the car home and I went for a 15minute drive this morning but the car is still running like crap so obviously the premix isn't going though very well. It just runs rediculously rough anywhere under 3000RPM, jerking all over the shop, and there is smoke and oil coming from the PCV valve to a catch can I rigged up. I adjusted the idle mixture on the carb to lean it out abit, but it had little to no affect. I've read that the 2stroke mix shouldn't cause any problems, but the way that the car is running at the moment, it is putting some doubt in my mind. My question is: What is the best thing to do in this situation? Drain the fuel tank and carbie from all the contaminated fuel then clean the carbie and plugs etc or just keep driving and top it up with unleaded and just burn the premix out? If anyone has any advice, feel free to post :) Moral to my story, DON'T TRUST YOUR FRIENDS! -Alex

Yes, I have adjusted the idle mixture and the idle speed screws accordingly to get a nice consistant idle speed. At the moment, the idle speed is set a bit higher because it helps keeps the revs up during the colder weather here. Sits around 1500rpm when the car is warm, so it is just a little bit to high. Going to the carbie bloke tomorrow to get some new jets for it, so that should make it run smoother. @smacko84 "oh wtf a loose plug..?" Gold :y:

I saw a carbie bloke today and told him what jets were in the carb at the moment, he said straight away they are too big for the engine, so on monday I should be getting the right sized jets, he agreed that around 170 air and 130 mains would be right for a stock 4K. Hmmm, blue smoke doesn't sound to good at all... :D Mine doesnt really puff out any big clouds, but it just smells like fuel out the back. And yes, the vacuume leak was between the manifold and adaptor plate. I have the old gaskets that were used between the adaptor plate and Lseries manifold which the carb came off, so they just needed to be a bit tighter to get a propper seal. Another little note for people who might not know this: The redline adaptor plate for a DGAV weber to K series manifold is EXACTLY the same as the redline adaptor plate for a DGAV weber to L series Datsuns. I worked that out after buying a brand new one off ebay and then noticed that it was exactly the same as the Lseries one that was with the carb, part number and all. :y: -Alex

Ok, sorry for the late update....have had alot of s**t going on at the moment.... so my car was in last in the order unfortunatley. Whistling is fixed, just the manifold/adaptor plate studs needed tightening. Problem solved. As for engine flooding...It still happens sometimes, but ive worked out, if it doesn't start like it should, put the pedal flat to the floor then it starts straight away. The N+S seemed to be in good condition, but i think I will get a new one anyway, as well as new gaskets and what not. Going to try rejet it myself if I can get a hold of some different sized jets. From what I have heard, I should be trying around 130 mains and 170 air jets. At the moment it has 165 and 175 airs, and a 145 main jet in the primary throat and an unmarked jet size in the secondary throat, though pretty sure that it is bigger than 145. Dyno tune would be the best bet...but I really can't afford it at the moment, and I don't know of any dyno places in town. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know where to buy jets for DGAV/DGV webers? Was going to try Bursons and Repco tomorrow, but if anyone knows where to get them, love to hear it. Also, just a side note, the car seems to get around 10-11km/L all town driving aswell. Not sure if that is good or bad, but it actually seems to use the same amout of fuel as the stock Aisan one :y: -Alex

I second that. Just getting "page cannot be displayed...." -
I had a similar problem to you with the stock carbie, would flat spot when you accelerate and had to rely on the choke even in the middle of summer  . I don't know what was causing it unfortunatly, checked for blocks, changed the accelerator pump but couldnt find anything. I gave up with it soon after, there could be many things causing it and since I had access to a weber, it was an easy decision to swap to that instead of stocky aisan  ^^^^Exactly what I did. Made a hell of a difference. Car runs alot better, no flat spots, and, it starts and runs fine first go in the middle of winter. Would reccomend it if you can get your hands on one.

Nice band man. Reminds me of a mix between InFlames/Hypocrisy, which, is all good  -
Tomorrow I'll take the carbie apart and check the condition of the N+S and gasket. I noticed a little whistile coming from the carbie today when the engine decelerates so there is a vacuum leak somewhere  , most likely the carb gasket. It never used to do this so I am starting to think that a new kit through the carbie would be the best bet, then get it rejetted. Again, will post on the outcome. -Alex

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll be replacing the N+S sometime this week hopefully if I get some spare time. I found a couple of carbie places in town, so on the weekend I'll give them a call and try and get the carbie jetted correctly for the 1.3L. I'll post on here the outcome after the N+S is replaced and/or the carb jetted. Thanks again -Alex

The 32/36 has no loose wires hanging anywhere, and as far as I can see, there isn't anywhere where it would be possible to connect wires to. At the moment the solenoid wire (precisionly marked by arrow  ) isn't plugged to anything so maybe that is messing with things. :hmm: I'll have another search on the carb for where wires may be possible to attach to it. Thanks for the help des, i'll see what i can come up with after another search :y: If anyone has any other ideas of what may cause the problem, feel free to leave your 2c input  -Alex

Hey guys, My dad and I recently installed a 32/36 DGAV Weber on the 4K as the old Aisan one that was on there had basically lost it's will to live. The carbie is working pretty damn nicely however we just encountered little problem and are unsure what is causing it. The problem is that after the car has been driven around for a while(5minutes or more)then turned off, it doesnt like to start up again straight away. (noticed when trying to start the car after stopping at the petrol station  ) You kinda have to let it sit a bit then try again. Once it finally starts, it gurgles for abit at about 300rpm then slowly rises to a normal idle(1000rpm). It seems as if the engine is flooding after the car is switched off. Was wondering if it would be: A) The carb not jetted correctly for the engine or B) Something to do with not having a fuel return line so any unburnt fuel in the carb is just running into the manifold. Just wondering knows about/has experianced the same problem and may know a possible solution. Thanks for your help, -Alex

been checking the forum abit about a 4AGE into a KE70 and started making a list of what i will need to get. dunno how i am going with it (brain hurts) but this is what ive come up with so far: AE-86 x member and mounts? T-50 gearbox? new diff? new hydraulic clutch? i know that there is alot of other things that i am missing but if this list is kinda right, i would like to know:)

Seems like the 4AGE is the way to go. gonna go check the forum for people who have done this conversion on their car. Again, thanks all for the comments, very helpful. :jamie:

Hello All, So I got myself a 4-speed manual KE70 Corolla for $500 and started "sprucing" it up a bit. The car was in Okay condition when i purchased it however it needed some panel beating and fresh paint. also the rims made it look a tad better. Ive got most of the interior and exterior done, however the stock 1.3L engine doesn't quite have enough go for my liking :jamie: Does anyone have any suggestions for a higher power engine that is relatively easy/cheap to come across that works well in a KE70? Any suggestions welcome. here is a picture of the car so far...
