  1. hey guys, today after putting my new speakers in under the dash, i noticed a small, but annoying problem with the car.. for some reason, my engine check light, oil light and handbrake light no longer show up, the tacho, water and fuel gauges no longer work, and the heater and rear demister no longer work.. i didnt touch any wiring behind the cluster, and everything was working prior to putting new speakers and wiring in.. i have checked all the usual blade fuses in the right hand kick panel, and the ones in the engine bay.. anybody got any ideas on what iv missed that would stop all these things working? cheers Dave
  2. still got issues.. anyone got ideas on this? hey guys.. me again.. still havent got it sorted, but i think i may have another issue which may be causing it.. while having a look at all the vacuum hoses.. for replacing the boost guage and to do the abv mod, mine seems different.. iv drawn a rough picture of how mine is setup at the moment, any ideas on correcting it? the car is right hand drive if that makes any difference thanks Dave
  3. sweet as, il try fix those couple things and see if that helps
  4. ahh k, il take a look at that, i think the pipe between the afm and the t/b is buggered too, is wrapped up in duct tape..
  5. hey dude, i know my boost guage is buggered on the front - missing the glass, could that possibly be causing problems?
  6. Hey guys.. finally got my car a warrant.. but, its still having issues.. engine is a 4agze from ae92 with AFM, and has CAS and coil packs.. problem is the car dies at low rpm when warm, when engine is cold, its fine, and it runs fine over 3000rpm, but anything under and it sucks.. i took it to my mechanic (midas porirua) and they spent 3 days going over it and couldnt find anything and said that its likely to need an aftermarket ecu and an auto sparky.. before i go down that route, has anybody got any ideas? was thinking of changing to distributor and single coil set up? dave
  7. hey, just my daily run around for the mean time while i get my hilux surf back on the road, after that, il see how road legal it still is and go from there, plans may include some form of engine conversion, either in the way of lexus v8, or a 3T turbo of some sort.
  8. hey hey, well after my long absence from the oldschool, I'm back in the game with another, the vehicle which has been chosen though isnt a corolla sadly, but close enough :jamie: i am now the proud owner of a 1983 Toyota Corona sedan, few specs; 3T engine with a T40 behind. solid axle at the back with coils all around matte black paint job. cut springs... :jamie: yeah, have a couple pics of it too, will get better ones when its next dry outside. - Dave
  9. oh yeah...its on a 4K haha, points, i havent thought of checking them, my mate said it was the timing, so its just a process of elimination i guess
  10. I'm hoping its not compression :D seems to be enough fuel coming through, just replaced the leads and plugs as well, so will have to wait for the battery to recharge before playing again. cheers for the info, the manual doesnt really tell me anything :D
  11. hey guys well, went to start my car yesterday, and it didnt, seems like the timing is out. i set the engine to TDC, and lined up the dissy, but its not firing, the engine cranks over fine, but will not fire. anyone got any ideas on what is wrong and how i can fix it? cheers david
  12. I'm more into circuit racing, don't use a K series though  i race with a fwd 4age powered starlet lol..
  13. used for different countries where a different petrol octane is sold.. i think.. :)
  14. hmm...if it involves cutting the dash, then i can't be bothered lol thanks for the help. il stick with the factory one.. chur
  15. hey, was having a look at the guage cluster in the wagon, and was wondering if anyone knew if the cluster out of a TE71 (might be a T18) in aussie would fit in without having to change the whole dash? looking at the one with the oil pressure guage, and volt guage etc. - David
  16. they start in 1981, they started in 1980.
  17. yup, you can get chrome bumpers, i have a set on my wagon, they are very common over here, and look much better than the ugly plastic ones.
  18. hsssp mmrrrbbb :o :D turbo in reverse?

right. to answer your first question, go to your local MOT office and ask them about importing your car to england and they will give you a run down on whether you can or not. second question (engine and tranny) if you want to stay toyota, id try find a 4AGZE, as they come with a stronger bottom end from factory, or find a bluetop 4age, you will need to drop the compression ratio, change over the inlet manifold, obviously going with a turbo, you'l need to change the exhaust etc to suit. the gearbox youd most likely want to use would be a w55 with an A series bellhousing, for your diff, best bet would be to go with an 8" G series LSD from the toyota hilux, you'l need to get it shortend and the mounts moved over to fit into your car. - david
  21. well, fixed the rear end..turns out the diff and wheel bearings are fine. it had LOOSE wheel nuts :o , almost lost both back wheels last night coming home, luckily i had the stereo turned off, so i heard what i thought was a stone rattling around, turned out to be 2 wheel nuts on the right rear coming off, and 3 on the left rear coming off. make sure when buying a new car, you don't take the previous owners word that the wheel nuts are done up tight. :D
  22. haha well..struck the first and quite a large problem on the road to getting it road legal.. the front seat belts which were suppiled as new ones, are incorrect 'doh' :o so now i have no passenger seat belt, so i wont be out cruising this weekend :D now on the hunt for 2 front seat belts..
  23. haha, nice from far, far from nice. it drives nice, doesnt use any petrol compared to my old Mark2 wagon which would use $10 petrol driving 30ish kms.. :o
  24. hey, they are getting harder to find, most have surcome to rust in the front doors and around the boot. there are still quite a few over here, just finding a decent one is the hard part. this is the second 3 door wagon iv owned, but the previous one was in a slightly better cond. next on the list for it is a whole new rear end - diff, axles, housing etc, as apparently when driving it home last night, both wheels were wobbling, which seems to tell me that my wheel bearings are about to go. and it $60 each, its cheaper to replace the whole thing at once lol. pics; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/bdazl/blue2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/bdazl/blue1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/bdazl/blue.jpg
