hey guys and gals, thought i would introduce my car to the forum.. some specs: engine: it did have a 4age in it. it has a 4agze now that i've almost finished converting. just a few wiring gremlins but other than that its basically done. it did have a rebuilt motor as i spun number 1 big end. luckily for me it wasn't damaged too bad so i got it all machined up, head rebuilt etc. unfortunately i used an ACL head gasket and not even 10 000km's later it split. so i ordered me a genuine head gasket and some ARP head studs.then about 9 months later i got bored of the bigport and decided to get an ae101 halfcut. gearbox: e58 LSD with Exedy heavy duty clutch. machined flywheel. suspension: rear strut brace, rear adj. swaybar both from whiteline. other than that the shockies and springs are standard. I'm looking at getting some coilovers for it once ive driven it for a little while (havent drove it for about 6 months) wheels: some sort of ugly gay ass CSA 15 inch rim. brakes: i fitted ae92 series 2 front rotors/ calipers but i will put the super sluts on there, just need some rotors for it. interior/stereo: sw20 leather front seats, some painted interior plastics, leather gear boot surround and electric windows. kenwood mp3 head unit, MB quartz 3 way splits in the front, inch co axle MB quartz in the rear. security: autowatch alarm system with auto window closure (for shits and giggles) body: shaved front door locks and soon ae101 bonnet scoop. it has some small spots of rust in the usual spots but its not too major. tinted rear tail lights and front bumper indicator lenses, HID headlights. anyway enough talking shit, some pics for you.

i have kinchrome metric ones..my whole tool box is kinchrome and the only thing that has failed on me is my side cutters. i always use my ratchet spanners..sometimes i even use a spanner to "lever" on the ratchet spanner to undo some bolts..the best thing is they get in to tight spaces.

although i can't see it from the photo but it may have an adapter plate for the manifold..

its not the same mate..ae92 rear struts are different to ae82 where they bolt up to the knuckle..the spacing between the bolt holes are more apart on ae92.. there is a few other minor differences but most of it if not all interchanges. except for superstrut unless you have the complete front subframe and suspension for ae101. http://www.twincam.info/index.php?showtopic=34780 bazda gets them made up from the same factory as ISC and runs them in his ae92 levin which recently won in New Zealand. I'm looking to get some at the start of next year hopefully.

you need to get something to hold the engine up while your taking the g/box out..jack the car up and put it on stands (just the front will do) undo bottom ball joints, take drive shafts off, undo all the wiring and thermostat housing on top of the gearbox, remove speedo drive, undo selector cables, remove starter motor, undo clutch slave cylinder and tie it off out of the road, undo the back gearbox mount, place jack under gearbox, undo front g/box mount, undo side g/box mount (near the battery which should be disconnected before you start anything) jack the gearbox up so it has tension on it and is at the same level as the motor, undo the bell housing bolts, gently remove the g/box from the engine (it may get stuck on the dowels in the engine where the bell housing bolts up so get a screwdriver and gently lever it out, MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T SLIP OR ROLL OFF THE JACK, lower jack to ground height and remove from the engine bay. undo clutch from the flywheel.undo the pressure plate bolts evenly, if you have access to a rattle gun bonus, if not you will have to find a way to take the flywheel off (i use a bent valve (90 degrees) and put the collet end into a bell housing bolt hole on the motor and the other end onto the starter ring to stop it from turning and use breaker ar to undo the bolts. get the flywheel machined as always when replacing a clutch. bolt the flywheel up to the correct torque settings (same as ae82 4age) clean the flywheel bolt thread and apply a tiny bit of loctite to the threads. with your new clutch you should get an alignment tool to align the clutch plate up on the flywheel, if not you can use your fingers and check how much more you need to move the clutch plate by feeling the clutch plate and then move it so its even on the pressure plate at all sides.. put the gearbox into gear (any) and it will go in heaps in easy..put some grease onto the input shaft in the gearbox, replace the throw out bearing (should come with clutch kit) put some grease on the "fingers" of the clutch fork. install gearbox the same way as removing but make the dowels line up before you tighten the bell housing bolts.you can get one bolt in tight and it will stay in place..always make sure the flywheel surface is clean from grease and shit..it can take a while to do but you save alot in dough DIY'ing it.

me and a mate at tafe were talking shit about gilmer belt driving my 4agze...then it got me thinking, it could be done but it would be a mission.

ok well from reading this: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=142 from reading that, it looks like the knuckles just bolt up..but i think it depends on whether the ae82 is drum or disc then the ae92 donor hubs must be aswell.
-
does the ae82 your installing these into have disc brakes on the rear? as ae92 disc and drum "knuckles" may be different to each other aswell..have a look at the control arms mounting positions on the ae92 knuckle.if all else fails get the whole ae92 arse end and transfer it over.

replace the gasket yourself with help from the guy who can rebuild motors..Toyota head gasket= 70 buks.i did mine in a day on my 4age so yours should be well easier to do.
-
put your best foot forward!! i love my ae82.i get to drive RWD all day every day and i can't really see the fuss..but thats just me..IMO a ae82 4age would be an awesome motorkhana car.light as, cheap as, parts everywhere (especially in my shed :P ) and they look better than keXX
