  1. I'll be discussing this with the insurance people soon over repairs from a lady running into my car. Mine is a US 1969 KE10 Just got through with a near restoration...Mechanically all new 'cept for some bushings and bits I haven't replaced yet. Everything under the hood is brand new, full engine (3K), head, ancillaries, wiring..polished aluminum...brakes , tires, ujoints, tie rods, shocks, strut inserts, carpet, custom teakwood dash and instrument overlays....most of what was left to do was seats, rubber kit, headliner and paint. And on an unrelated question...why would they make the front and rear windows sooooo close to being the same but different. They coulda made the two interchangeable.
  2. That was UPS I checked...guessing at 40lbs...(Grrr metrics) 20k....I tried it as freight and it said it could go as package and then said the package dimensions were too big...squeezed it a bit more and it gave me nine hundred something as cheapest option and even when I specified the weight at 40lbs, it said billable weight 125lbs. What other companies do a lot of shipping like that? Who knows someone in the military that might just happen to be going that way...lol. I used to have some uncles who took their vacations by C-130's...rode jumpseats all the way to Hawaii.
  3. Looks just like mine did back when I bought it ...Diana Olive...makes me think they used leftover army green
  4. Well the shipping is whats gonna kill me...already had a couple of offers of parts...box big enough for a fender or a bumper...estimated UPS from Melbourne to Arkansas...$1000 or up depending on method... There's supposed to be an adjuster on the way to look at it, I'm going to see what he says it's worth, They probably can't find parts themselves and aren't going to go to the trouble of searching like I have, but parts, labor, shipping and all is looking to me to be in the $5000 range. They will choke and say the car's not worth that much. I will tell them that not only is it becoming a very rare antique being a 69....Not to mention brand new engine and everything on it, new shocks, struts, u joints, etc...mechanically a new car....but according to the Toyota museum site...the 69 is the second generation...one place says it's first generation and the 70 is second generation...according to the parts guy at the local toyota shop this is an Early model 69, exactly the same as the 68 first year in US...after March of 69 they made the Late 69...with small differences like the 70....So this is an Early 69 First generation, last of the First generation made. Regardless, they need to return me to where I was.
  5. in my gallery....don't have pics of the crunch yet....on someone else's camera
  6. My grill seems to have been spared as well as the chrome headlight ring, and the Corolla badge. The chrome fender piece is pretty badly twisted and the bumper was twisted all the way behind the tire. But yeah, I'm seem to be having better luck finding people with body parts down there, the shipping is ridiculous though...Size of a couple o fenders in a box...$1000 or more to ship UPS...I'm checking around.
  7. Cool...I still have my 12's set back but no hubcaps.....
  8. Thanks all...i just have to wait til I see what happens with the insurance first...KEep em Rollin
  9. Well I may be wrong but i think if it was my insurance they could write it off, but being her fault and her insurance they can offer to write it off but I will refuse. Then we end up in court...how do you put a value on something that around here is pretty much irreplaceable and antique? What usually happens is a dollar amount based on parts and labor...(they can't get parts, it will take a whole lot of labor to straighten these crumpled parts but it can be done, I've done it). I'll have to hunt down pieces and get them shipped. They need to pay me to put it back like it was...we have frame machines, finding someone who actually does bodywork, for estimates, might be tough, most places if they can't get replacement panels don't want to bother with it.
  10. That sounds about right...the parts were Dutch...(Van Doorne Automobielfabrieken of Endhovenwhen), I took apart the wheels, it has Volvo brakes. Cool to know, thanks.
  11. Hi guys, I had a lady try to drive over my KE10 yesterday...she got a ticket, but now I need to find out if anywhere in the world is there a KE10 front cap. The main needs are the lower valance panel, front bumper, turn signal, headlight ring, the reflectors and left front fender and chrome. The inner wall/frame is a bit tweaked, hopefully fixable. I know this is asking a lot but I need to try and get some costs worked up. I know the insurance people are going to try and give me $500 and call the car totaled, I've been through this before. My thoughts are that there has to be a state minimum of $25,000 property damage coverage... and if it takes them $25,000 to put my car back like I had it, that's what they are going to do....or they can buy me a brand new Corolla or give me the cash equivilant. I had just gotten this thing back in order, new engine and all ancillaries, tires, brakes, tie rods, u joints...it gets 45 mpg when I cruise it...haven't even gotten a whole month out of it....had a car show lined up for this weekend...(wonder if they have a wrecked antique class). Nobody even makes a car that will do this good anymore or be so easy to work on I'll need to first see if I can find parts and then see what shipping will be here to the states. I'm looking around here too but there seems to be quite a few more still around down there. How does an insurance company put a value on an irreplaceable antique in near perfect working order...about all that was left to do was paint, seats and headliner. Thanks for any help. Crying in Arkansas....my poor little car of 27 years, my first car, countless hours of work, blood, sweat and tears.
  12. I've been using a trailer for years that I got when my grandfather died. All I had heard was that it was made from some kind of little truck the ARKLA gas company used back in the sixties. I had pictured something like the 3 wheeled cushman things the ticket writers downtown use. As it turns out, these were designed by a couple of the guys at the gas company and a company engineer named Ed Handy. Thus they became known as HandyWagons They imported parts from Holland and built them in a nearby boat factory. They were for company use only and built in 1964 around Malvern, Arkansas. They had a 2 cylinder 30hp engine, a 900lb capacity, four wheel independent suspension. Only 97 were ever produced and they were phased out after 10 years or so. There are only 3 known left in the world...2 here in Arkansas and one in Holland...but now I know there are 3 and a Half! I plan to restore it and use it again this summer. I had stored the original sides, they were (are) pretty rough but will clean up nicely. It is the perfect size for towing behind the KE10. Here's one to show you the scale of the truck, some had wood sides, some had fiberglass. My trailer is most likely made from one of the trucks in this picture below
  13. No testing(no tester) just knew something was up with the head because of that sound (worn valve, worn seat, worn guide...exhaust leaking up the guide) and when I got it back and put it on, it ran a lot better but still funky...wouldn't pull any kind of hill....someone on here had said something about maybe being a tooth off and I thought "no way I did that". Well....:hmm:...someone should have slept a bit more
  14. I like the black....mine may go that way.
  15.:dance:Hooray...got it sorted out finally....I had the head gone over. I had to rob some stuff off another cracked head I had laying around. Two "new" exhaust valves, seats and remaining valves reground, all new guides, cleaned water passages and a very light skim to make sure it;s flat. Still wasn't quite acting right so I finally broke down and took off the timing cover off to make sure there was no way in hell I had gotten the gears off a tooth......hah! two teeth...damn! Anyway got it all lined up properly, started on the first bump and purrs like a kitten. Took it out on the freeway, goes right up and cruises at 70mph and accelerates very well from 70 up....actually had to slow myself down...gonna treat it like a new engine for a bit. So fellas, do not stay up all night putting an engine together...get some rest....shake the cobwebs out first.....dang I'm getting old.
  16. Well...finally took the head off and took it to the shop. That valve guide on #4 was pretty shot, loose and burnt...valve seat gone....getting two new valves, all new guides and all valves reseated and a light resurface....gee, you'd think they would last a bit more than a half million miles. Oh, and I found out the old Haynes manual I have shows the exhaust valve guide to be longer than the intake valve guide, when the opposite is true.
  17. Hey the prize could be...a couple of motors shipped over here!
  18. out of curiosity, according to the FAQ, this 3K head 24010-200 is listed as a "Bigport without water jackets" what does that mean? (It does have water passages). I also have one with just 22010 stamped on it, but it has some cracks and may be from the original 1.1 K. (I Still have the 1.1 block too, but no crank or anything.(it's not listed on your FAQ 1969 1077cc K-C) I ran that head (22010) on a 1.2 3K that I bought still in the factory crate for $300. I believe now it must have been a "Factory Reject" or something. I squeezed 250,000 miles out of it but by the end, it had cracks running all through it. First noticed one under the exhaust that leaked water from the side of the block...patched at it for years, it would just seep...when it finally wouldn't run any more...it had a crack all the way from #1 to #3...#1, 2 and 3 pistons were all cracked, Cam nearly lobeless in some places...it was pitiful. The only thing I'm still using from that engine is the crank and pushrods.
  19. ..and it hasn't run enough to colour the valves from that incident. A cyl low on compression has black exhaust valves, while a good one has ash-brown valves. I don't suppose you can remember what they looked like... Compression test or head off I suppose. They were all brown....but that is a good tidbit to know, I'll remember that, thanks. I can't remember for sure when the last time I had the valves done. I have found a better machine shop to work with though.. already does a lot of antique stuff, Willy's Jeeps, hot rods and such. http://www.rebelrebuilders.com. ( He also said he might need some help soon   ha ha ...real tools to play with :P no more trying to carve pistons out of stone and making pushrods out of sticks! but we will see...
  20. Yeah i've gathered from reading on here that over there, K motors are "throwaways"...a dime a dozen.....not the case here, practically non-existant. I have spotted what looks to be about a '78 or '79 rolla sitting at a storage facility, but I can't make an offer till work picks up....it should have a K or a T in it...and i would love to have a fifth gear in this thing...I haven't tried climbing the fence to see yet :)
  21. Well I say new...there's hardly any miles on them...I did a complete rebuild in 2007...a few months later in early 2008 the rod cap dropped off, having not been torqued properly(I knew I was getting old), from the #1 piston. It slowly lost power on the freeway til I came to a stop and when I tried to start it again there was a loud clack and it locked up. Parked it, bought a motorcycle and left it for 3 years. Finally had to try and get it running, tore it down to see what was wrong....replaced the rod and bearings...(cleaned fuel tank, lines, carb)...the #1 piston had a small chip out of it where the rod bent against it, having no money decided to see what it would do...no other cracks or signs of trauma...threw it together and it was enough difference to make the engine shake at low rpms...(That first try was when the explosion occurred)...tore it back down completely and balanced the pistons a bit better by shaving the skirts a tad...put it back together once again...much smoother but still working out all the crap from sitting for 3 years and this new thing......whew! And I'm broke! If I was less broke, I could get it running, if I could get it running, I would be less broke. :bash:
  22. It definitely comes from the #2 exhaust, I'll just have to wait til I can take it to the machine shop and have the valves done. Early on in throwing this back together, in too big a hurry, there was a pretty big explosion (wish I had that on video :))Had the diz 180 out and it blew hard enough to pop the valve cover gasket all the way around...big cloud of smoke haha....So I think I blew all that pressure up that valve stem. Ahhh... the joys of "shade tree" ...trying to work on cars using stone tools and bearskins.
  23. Hey Rolla people...Still trying to figure out what this sound is...valves clearances are good, pistons and rings are new, what would make this one valve puff like that? Is there a sleeve in there that might be leaking into the top instead of all going out the exhaust. The head is one thing I've never taken completely apart myself...I've got another one in my shed that's cracked...possibly scavenge something from it?
  24. Found this little thing sitting in a yard painted solid green and rusting. My Buddy and I thought it would make a cool parade bike. Bought it for $200 on a Friday...by the next Saturday I had it entered in a car and bike show benefit for a kid named Paxton with cancer. In a bout 20 hours...(five days of messing with it after work) Stripped it down , cleaned, painted, pinstriped....won best in show and Paxton's choice...and got offered $600 for it. We then built a custom trailer for it with a "lock in" mounting system we devised where no straps are needed. It gets pulled behind the Harley in parades except last Christmas when my bike crapped out and I rode it instead. It took a little getting used to the long front end but I can still do all the same maneuvers with the big bikes More pics in the gallery...sorry bout the size
