Hi All, I was looking at doing an electronic distributor conversion for my ke10 (4K motor). Was looking at the pertronix electronic ignition. I've had a look and I am not sure what dizzy I have on the car. The only markings on the dizzy are "Australian" see pics attached

Hi All, I've been having some issues with my ke10 (running a 4k motor). The timing on the car is all over the place. Speaking with a good mechanic and he suggested the problem lies with the electronic ignition the motor is running. The previous owner set it up. It looks like a dick smith style kit. He recommended going to a pertonix ignitor system. Anyone had experience with these set ups?

Thought it was worth an update. Pulled the SU's off and put a full kit through them. Got all the parts and advise I needed from http://www.sumidel.com/ They were super helpful and really great to deal with. Got the SU's fitted and started her up. Very grumpy, running like a dog and backfiring fuel through the carbies out the ram tubes..... then I remember that I had forgotten to plug the vacuum off the manifold - so there was just a small vacumm leak! Take 2 - plugged the vacuum leak and it starts and runs fine, although a little loud as I only have the extractors fitted. Anyway during the week I got a new exhaust fitted - 1.75" - sounds fantastic. Awesome sound and the SUs are running ok. Took the wife out for a run the other night (edit - in the car) - ran fantastic SUs need adjusting however it ran great... first time the car has been on the road in 5 years, makes it worth while....

Thanks for the help Altezzaclub. Yes the car has a PCV - I have done some more research and understand the connections for this now! #2 is blanked off on one carb and the other does the charcoal filter on mine. - what function does the charcoal filter do? I assume that it is emissions related :scarymovie: Needle size I am not sure. Motor at this stage is a stock 4k. Just got the extractors - from Hurricane - very happy with them - brand new delivered within a day and cheaper that I could source a second hand pair! - I bought the SU's off a forum member several years ago. I think it may have been kangaroosa but not sure... it was quite a while ago. Choke cables and throttle cable have not been mounted as yet. Tomorrow nights job. No fuel pressure regulator - I know the SUs work on low pressure but have never head of this being an issue. I thought the float would be sufficient to regulate. Found another minor problem tonight - they have a leak around the jet assembly sleeve nut. I have pulled them off and found the rubber grommet in the base of the float chamber has perished. I have taken them off and will put a kit through them. Any recommendations for companies to source rebuild kits for SUs?

Hi All, I apologise for the 'simple' questions I am about to ask! I am in the process of fitting SU carbs to my 4k motor in a ke10. I have a couple questions regarding the SU carbs and also a couple questions regarding connections to/from the carbs: In the attached pics #1 - should this be plugged? I have seen some pics where there is a rubber cap on this point and some where this is left open like shown in the pic #2 - on the front SU this fitting has a rubber plug. On the back SU this fitting is open - I assume that this is a vacum point - is this for the vac adv on the distributor? #3 - there is another rubber tube off the head - where should this be plumbed into? #4 - is this the fitting for the vacum adv for the dist? if so then what should #2 be used for? Also - The manifold has been tapped - I assume this is for the vacum for brake booster (As the ke10 is unassisted brakes I assume I just blank this off) Thanks guys, sorry for the simple, non technically phrased questions. Thanks guys. So has anyone fitted the hurricanes to a ke10 with 4k? I assume they are the same dimensions etc.. As the standard and will clear the suspension and steering.

Hi, I know there are some older threads about this but I have not seen anything recently. I am after a set of headers/extractors for a 4k motor in a ke10. Called Gennie and they no longer make them. Local shop want $400+ Second hand appear to be hard to come by. Any other suggestions or companies you know that still make them? Location = Sydney

Mine is a 69 and does not have them. There are mounting points however.

Hi Guys, I have started to have a problem with the indicators with my ke10. Indicating left it blinks fine. Indicating right the indicator light stays on and does not blink anymore. This is indepenedent of whether the motor is on etc... I have gone around and replaced all globes on the car fairly recently. All the light globes for the right indicator are working fine. I understand that the indicator circuit works on a timing circuit and requires the correct resistance - i.e all light globes to be working to time the blinking. Does the indicator circuit use the same timing circuit for indicating left and right? - if so I assume this would indicate a problem with possibly an earth or something funny at one of the right indicator points. Any other suggestions or fault finding assistance someone can provide? Does anyone have a circuit diagram? thanks, Anthony

Hi All, I need to get my tailshaft modified. Any recommendations in Sydney? thanks, Anthony

Thanks for the help. The cross member for the auto fits the 4 speed fine. Just need to check that it will also fit the 5 speed. I have already cut the hole for the shifter for the 4 speed. Just not sure if the 5 speed is set back further than the 4 speed. Anthony

Hi All, My on going saga of completing an auto to manual conversion for my ke10 contiunes....I am after some advice/experince you guys have had with this. Current problem: I have replaced the 2 speed auto box with a 4 speed manual (out of a later model ke3x of ke5x) which has a different gearbox output shaft than the auto box I pulled out (I have been trying to source an earlier model 4 speed gear box out of a ke2x series without any luck - So if anyone has one please PM me!). So I am finding that I believe I need to either: 1. Use the auto tailshaft with correct flange at diff end and later model tail shaft with the correct gearbox input shaft and split at yolks and combine (assuming that this would give the correct tailshaft length and the yolks are the same size etc...) 2. Or get someone to cut/weld the two tailshafts, balance etc.. to get the correct lenght. However, I have come across a 5speed from a Ke70 with tailshaft. Which I believe would need to have the tailshaft cut down to length (which I may need to do for fitting the tailshaft for the 4 speed. So what I am after is some advice: Is the 5 speed box the same physical size as the 4 speed other than the length of the box? Basically will it fit within the transmission tunnel Is the shifter position set further back? Is it possible to use the existing gearbox cross member from the autobox on the 5speed box? or is the cross member different? Is it possible to use the existing clutch, presure plate etc... from the 4 speed with the 5 speed? Are there any other hidden supprises like clutch cable positions, speedo cable fittings etc... that I should be aware of? Basically, I think I am likely to need to get the tailshaft cut and shut, so if there is minimal extra buggering around, I am thinking the 5 speed would be good. Any help, words of wisdom would be great.

My brother had one of these brand spanker new. Awesome, beautiful car. Great looking, awesome motor (even by today's standards). Shit it was quick (for the time). Shit it was expensive when anything went wrong.... And it did.

Thanks for the advice... The unis on the ke20 tailshaft at the wrecker looked different (larger) than the unis on the ke10 tails shaft from the auto.

Ok now I am confused :bash: A little while ago I did an auto to manual conversion on my ke10. Original box was a 2 speed toyoglide. Original tail shaft has a input shaft for the gear box with 16 teeth. So the gear box that I installed into the ke10 is a 4 speed K40. Not completely sure what model it came out of. I also have a second k40 box, both of which have a 21 tooth output shaft. Of course I didn't notice this until the tail shaft would not fit. So I went to a wrecker today to source a tail shaft from a 4 speed manual ke2x. Dropped the tail shaft out and bugger me, its a 16 tooth output shaft!!! Not a 21 tooth like the two manual boxes I have at home. So I am still at square one. Questions are this: What gear boxes do I actually have? I have looked at the box casting and there is no real numbers or marking on it. Is it possibly a 4 speed from a later model like a ke70? Am I better off getting a new 4 speed box with the 16 tooth output shaft? or to search for the holy grail, a 21 tooth ke2x tail shaft (if such a thing exists) Any help would be appreciated. Anthony

Independent of yoke size, I found that they had a different number of splines..... Ke10 2 speed toyoglide tail shaft would not fit the k40 box I had :D . Other people have told me that they slide straight in. Auto box had 16 teeth and the k40 box has either a 20 or 21 teeth input shaft. Still on the hunt for a ke20 tail shaft Anthony

Hi All, Finally worked up the motivation to finish off converting my ke10 to a manual. Works been killing me and car has been sitting on stands for months now. However I have hit a snag! The tail shaft used on the 2 speed toyoglide box has 16 teeth spline, with a key position. The T40 box I have has a 20 teeth spline. Length of the tail shaft looks fine. Question is this, can I get the gearbox end off a manual tail shaft (from another model e.g ke70) and replace the existing tail shaft from the yolks forward? Will this change the length? This one buggered me as everything I have read says that the tail shafts are interchangable..... If that is the case, does anyone have a manual tail shaft with the 20 teeth fitting? location = Sydney Cheers, Anthony

If the 5spd is still cable, can't see why not.

There are heaps of old school ones over there. I was over about a year ago, the smick ke10 cruised by and I had no camera! There are also some god aweful ones as well!

Ke10 definitely not a retractor type.

Hi All, Thanks for the help. The belts look pretty bad, especially the passenger one. I would prefer to keep standard belts as this will cause me less grief at blue slip time. I believe in NSW if you mod the belts you then need to get some sign off on it. I'm happy to fork out some $'s for decent belts, not like there are many other safety feature on a ke10 (ABS, Airbags, crumple zones etc.....) Cheers, Anthony
