Well I've seen ads for scissor doors that have said that they do custom kits... however using my powers of induction I am thinking they might be more expensive that way... However if u get an old corolla going with scissors doors that would be completely crazy, in a good way
-
yeah points are cheap but putting them in correctly is a slight effort is it not... Man I can't wait to have a motor with an electronic distributor :rocknroll: And yeah I'm probably in for a skidpan day thats a cool idea
-
i LOVE skidpans... and would come to that with my shitter 4K-C and i dunno when i'm putting the motor in, ASAP, but i need to sort out what exactly i'm doing first :rocknroll:
-
heh well no race meets for me yet sorry.. not with my extremely battered 4K-C still in the car.. maybe AFTER my engine conversion
-
Yeah I didn't have to pay at all, he's a good bloke. He didn't really do anything but he could have charged for a quote and recharging my battery so I could get the beast home but nope :) My parts car has paid itself off. I bought it for $20, paid $120 for freight to my place... and so far I've taken the carby off it ($50 rebuild kit alternative), the alternator ($140 new) and the distributor (dunno how much points are these days but mine were rooted) Hooray for parts cars Pity you can't make it mate, rollaclub should have more cruises so everyone starts to get to know who's who in the flesh :S
-
its good to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel for motorsport once petrol is gone
-
Yes the alternator was broken. I could have used a multimeter but I got an offer of a free check by a car electrician, who probably used a multimeter anyway. Thanks for the offer of a spare alternator love ke70, and cheers for all the replies everyone :) So yeah long story short, KE30 and KE70 alternators ARE EXACTLY THE SAME PART... I have confirmed this, if anyone wants me to confirm any other random 4K alternators being interchangeable to whatever corolla then just ask me. I have now done the swap it was easy as. So yeah I can now make it on Sunday to see all you crazy toyota brandishing randoms! Hooray
-
yeah i'll come if i can get my alternator sorted by then hopefuly some lowered springs in as well!
-
Yeah I'm going to check with the multimeter tonight, I'm in Brisbane on the Northside where r u? :D

Frankly I think everything cosmetic about that car is disgusting Do not like the rear view mirrors, the paint is interesting but on the whole I find it gross, the flares, i mean, WTG! And I really don't like those style of wheels on old cars. You really need something tough, preferably with dish, to look right. Whilst I'm at it, I also don't like it when people put really big rims with low profile tires on an OLD car. Its just not cricket. ==> oh mind you it would be pretty fun to drive and wow this is really f@$king old post i didn't realise lol
-
yeah i did run it for a bit after it was jumped, with the leads still connected to the donor battery... I'm guessing that I charged the battery a bit and it got charged by my alternator a bit once it was going but not much... I think my alternator is dysfunctional but not yet broken. today i charged the battery with a charger... and put it in, the car started first go. Then it started doing it again after like 20 minutes or something and I came home. Only just made it I think, twas dying. I don't want to buy a new alternator or get it fixed if I don't have to because I'm planning on getting a whole new motor very soon.

Yeah Chris from northside van and commercial reckons the 7K has the reputation of not revving because of the hydro lifters, and I mean, maybe that's the case for the 5K too like you're saying... so with a solid lifter conversion?.. So Teddy you reckon twin turbo and supercharger with a twincam head somehow adapted with EFI would be the go for a 7K? Good idea
-
by the way, feel free to debate the KE70+7K idea some more
-
I have no idea, however I agree that 4AC = AE71, more or less
-
Just out of interest, King lows to suit a KE70 are listed as AE86 springs. I own a set but havn't got my hands on a spring compressor to get them in yet so couldn't tell you whether they're good... watch this space tho

OK so I've had a problem for a while that my battery runs flat really easily. I was listening to my stereo for like 20 minutes when I waxed my car thisarv, so when I go to start her up she's flat as a tack........ no worries, got a jump start, headed off. Ran alright for a while but then the lights started going dim. So I pull into a side street and let it idle for 10 minutes or so.... pull off and the problem is still just as bad, and after a minute I couldn't even rev the engine without the lights off!! Ran without lights on, trying to get home, but then she won't even run with the lights off entirely and I broke down and had to call mum for a jumpstart again. Made it home with the lights off but the gauge lights were getter dimmer and dimmer on the 10 minute drive home. So yeh my new years eve is spent typing here. I figure my alternator's had it and won't charge the battery properly or even give me enough AC to run the car at all.... considering putting the one off my KE30 parts car into it... sound right to you guys?

Actually I've been led to believe that too (that 7K all have EFI) and according to Chris from Northside Van and Commercial who rallies that white KE70 with a 5K... They're actually more common with carbies than with EFI. And cheaper of course. He would know, he sells the bloody things. I would vouch for a 7K, I'm seriously considering dropping one into my KE70. They're 1.8L and bolt straight in. The vans they come out of are pretty hefty and built to carry a lot of junk, so I reckon the motors must have a fair bit of torque!
-
Yeah out of interest, its the septone 1200 farenheit stuff that states it is "ideal for exhaust manifolds" and the VHT stuff just says its for 1200 farenheit. I am aware this doesn't prove septone stuff is better but yeah. Bloke with 7K, are you running carbs on that motor? Did you choose to be rid of the EFI? Some specifics on your setup would be much appreciated :D
-
yeah nah i havn't mate. i was assuming u didn't know about the stuff but if it doesn't work... then... thats gay! the cans say that it IS FOR exhaust manifolds so it would be a pretty pathetic product if it didn't stay on! with that type of paint there is also a special baking method u have to do to get it to set properly, maybe thats what you didn't do? like half an hour of heat, half an hour cool down, half an hour heat, blah blah something something. and yeah now that i remember it is 1200 degree celcius stuff... i was understating it! Coventry auto parts sells the stuff, if you want i'll get a price and colour range for you (and me)
-
good call
-
actually i think you're wrong man There's the high temp resistant engine paint that you use on blocks, thats good, but not good enough for the blistering heat of an exhaust. There is ALSO a kind of paint DESIGNED for pot belly stoves and exhausts that resists 500 degrees celcius plus. I have only seen it in grey and black though. I don't remember seeing it in any interesting colours, thats why I'm interested to know if he's used the uber heat resistant stuff that comes in bright red! my current idea is to have black exhaust and blue block to suit my car
-
Those red extractors are well wicked! It almost looks like its glowing red hot hehe What brand/kind of paint did you use?
-
well its not like a twin spark is used on modern engines, or any other engine i've ever heard of in fact?
-
This 7K corolla thing is an interesting idea, I've been pondering doing one instead of the 5K They're quite a hefty K engine
-
your car is totally awesome (rolla_boy)
