Glad to see another member of the T18 fraternity. I hope during your ownership you'll learn that she sure does deserve the name of the "Poor man's AE86". Power wise, any of the T series engines or combination of engines will be a bolt in affair. can swap for a 2TG as a straight bolt in, or, if you wish to keep the more torquey 1.8 capacity, it's entirely possible to fit either a 2TG head to the three T block, or, depending on the block, a 3T crank into a 2TG engine. Both of these combinations give some really sweet results. Couple this with the EFI of a 2TGEU and you're onto a winner. Bare in mind, the earlier cams in the 2TGs are much more agressive, so early cams in a late head on a 1.8L block with EFI holds tremendous potential. Also, sprinter running gear, as in RWD 4AGE, will bolt straight in. You have to use the 22 spline T50 box behind it. Other than that, it requires no modification to the crossmember or anything. The 3TC can be made to put out quite a substantial amount more than it came from the factory with. The key (as with most toyota engines) is letting them breathe easy. A set of side draught webers and extractors will make a huge difference, as will a nice bump stick. Emmission controls should be removed straight away. As far as bad habits go, just make sure she's oiled up sensibly. I have had oil pumps chew themselves out reasonably quick mostly due to my absentmindedness. Other than that, they are strong incredibly reliable engines. I have taken one for a 500km road trip, on which i split the radiator and boiled it dry. After stopping for quick topups only about 6 times, she made it there and back again. Once the radiator was fixed, she hasn't given me another problem and hasn't missed a beat. They are fantastic engines and respond excellently to performance work. Another one I had had a downdraught weber and pretty aggressive cam, which while it was interesting to drive, delivering all it's power in one heft at about 4000rpm, it was a absolute beast once in the powerband. Other mods available is pretty much anything that can be done to an AE86. Just remember that when ordering parts, tell them it's for either an AE71 or a KE70 to avoid Takumi tax. There are some slight differences with the strut tops between models, but they are easily interchangable, so that's not much of an issue. Rack and Pinion steering is also possible if you can either find an AE71 crossmember or weld on the rack mounts from a KE70. The steering shaft also has to be modified, but that's mostly a case of swapping the lower section of the column, so nothing overly traumatic. If you do decide to go for a turbo motor, either find a 3TGTE or turbo a 4AGZE for lots of fun in the sun. If you need any further info or looking for any specific parts just pm and i'll be happy to lend a hand.

I spotted a overrated AE71 a few weeks ago... CSX manual, that nice lightish blue they came in... original 65,000 spoke with the owner too. 85 year old lady who bought it brand new from the factory back in early 80's. I left my number with her grand-daughter who is supposedly set to inherit it, who said she'd call me if it ever 'becomes available'.

I think this is the time to dob in myself and chris... When's a good time to come take some measurements???
-
How about next weekend??? maybe friday or saturday the 9th or 10th? Gives me time to make the place presentable... Only problem is parking...
-
That's a VERY interesting idea... 600hp at all 4 wheels in a car that originally weighs 770kg... I suppose we could wind the boost up and have 1hp per kg... MWAHAHAHAHA! We can have a special cruise called the "try to keep up with Ken" cruise...
-
Welcome to our fair city... Clubbing wise, hit Northbridge. I don't know if many members here in perth are into that scene though. hope you have a safe and enjoyable visit though!

My engine crane is currently helping a 600hp GTR engine get put into a new home. Once that's done, I suppose I could lend it, and I am sure I can pull a hook off one of the 3Ts for you to borrow... How far you think yours is from being done quadeyquade?

Oh boy, don't tell me you're not down with the midget love?

So long as he understands he MUST admit that he just isn't worthy of corolla ownership, and the datto is the closest thing he could find... And he must never issue forth the words 'Datsun' or 'Nissan' in a way that might suggest superiority over Corollas...

Thanks for the comments guys. Workshop will be getting set up in Osborne Park. Ken, I'd be happy to take that beautiful 10 in and get her finished for ya. And Chalk, yeah, we'll have a chat at the cruise, or just pm me with what you're looking at and I'll work something out price wise. Sitting down with accountant tomorrow and going over the books, then got a week to put all the paperwork into the bank!!! It's all moving so fast! Best part about the location is it's got a legendary paint shop who I'm working out a bit of a deal with... -

Cheers for that. Just come back from a meeting and look over the workshop. It's looking really positive at the moment. Got a stack of parts under development and a range of services coming together nicely. It's going to be an exciting time toward the end of the year. May even be able to include a stop in and look around on the up coming cruise as a bit of a sneak peak for all the guys. -
700kg worth of women??? wow, that's like 15.5 hot bitches! or not?
-
Mmm. Beach+summer=bikinis! time to test out the awesome pulling power of a ke55... Lol

Hi Guys! Please disregard all of the following... This has officially been relegated back to the "Dreams" basket. For now... Just wanted to give a heads up. Near the end of October I'll be a new workshop opening here in our lovely city. Among some of the services offered will be performance work on; K series engines, such as carby conversions, cam installs and extractor fitting, T series hybrid engines, conversions and turbo conversions and 4AGZE/TE conversions. Will also be looking at 3SGE/GTE conversions along with all necessary brake, fuel system and diff upgrades. I'll also be able to put a bucket more time into my 300hp 3TGTE build, so keep an eye out for that when it hits the strip. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted with updates and an Official Opening when it gets closer to the date, but in the mean time, feel free to pm me with any questions or even let me know what you need for upcoming projects. See you all soon!

I do think that run you got is good, but does need extending... Having done the zigzags a few times now, i think continuing on through the city, out to scarborough then up the coast road to hillarys would be really pleasant.
-
I'm sure we could extend the cruise out to the scenic route from scarboro to hillarys?

I guess in that regard, the more restricted exhaust would slow airflow, while the restrictor in the inlet would in fact speed it back up? Could be a matter of full exhaust system for on street, but then unbolt half of it and put on a little dumpy pipe for the track. Also, maybe a full box and panel filter would limit the airflow off track which will then be 'loosened up" with a set of trumpets and filter sox for on the track?

Ken, just put yours on a trailer and tow it along. we wanna see!!!

What Attracts You To The Rollaclub?
white_sandshoe replied to Rich_Rolla's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
With you on that one! -
That's pretty much it. With the 3TC, under the exhaust manifold is a pipe that taps into the head underneath each exhaust runner. that will need to be blocked off somewhere, and pretty much all the piping that links between it and the carby can be removed, including that pump thats running off the crank.

You can drive my car if you like chris, but don't threaten me with cd players... lol turbo 5k should be enough noise for us. (unless it goes bang...) I figure if someone else drives me, then Jo has to take the T18. lol
-
I still need a driver! lol

I was thinking about the old American Graffiti movie, and that got me thinking about a scene in it where John Milner, the dude with the yellow hot rod, pulls in to take the restrictors out of his inlet and exhaust to prepare for a run against Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford) That got me thinking about a setup I'm looking to put together with a 2TG. I want to be able to lay down some decent power with twin side draughts and some nasty cam work. I was wondering what effect restrictors in the inlet and exhaust would have on the tuning of the carbs and if i could count on the reduced airflow to ease up the amount of fuel flowing, or if i'd have to re-tune the carbs every time i put the restrictors in... I'd like to think it's possible to have a setup where i'd drive down to the track, swap over a section of the exhaust to free it up, and possibly have some sort of slide in choke (smaller tube insert into the trumpet) which i could take out to free up the flow. What's people's thoughts on the technical implications especially in relation to fuel flow, taking into account the venturi effect they operate under...

Hey man, whatever floats your boat. It's a nice colour combination though... gold a white. pretty.
