  1. no one running larger cams with the std ECU??
  2. 220,000kms on the car, just clicked over 300kms on the motor last night. so far so good! anyone running bigger cams in the 4AGE? I'm hesistant to throw money at a set of slightly larger ones with the factory ECU.
  3. would be alot more durable/reliable then the shitty STD surf engines too!
  4. my missus has a 1990 SX seca, just rebuilt the 4AGE in the thing resprayed it about 6 months ago- really need better photos.
  5. thats pretty cool!
  6. and if its the oil pump, it will be the big end soon anyway...
  7. anyone have one of the adapters? photos? If they arent too involved they wouldnt be too hard to make.
  8. Pull a lead off (with a pair of pliers, don't do it by hand) when the car is running. If the engine note changes (ie drops another cylinder) then it not that one. Do the same to all 4 cylinders, one at a time, (pull off, then replace, then check next one etc) Easy way to identify the cylinder that isnt running. Burnt valve made my missus car sound like a WRX, but so did fouled plugs. Id be trying everything I could before going to the worst case. EDIT: sorry, meant to include basics. Fuel air spark. If you have all three in all cylinders and its still running like a dog, then its more then likely a valve.
  9. Buying a house at the moment! hoorah!
  10. I don't understand the logic in that. you have a 4inch cannon on the end of what? a 1.5 inch exhaust system? Thats about as useless as a one legged man at an arse kicking party. Cannons are useless pieces of cheap blingy crap IMO.
  11. Factory 4AGE manifolds love to crack and leak. $350 would be enough for a catback, but new cats are worth 200-300 each installed. extractors you are looking at roughly 300-500 (would need to look them up in the book)
  12. lagality, AFAIK comes down to original fitment, if it originally had an exposed aircleaner setup, then there is nothing illegal about a POD filter. If it ran an airbox, or similar, then the pod must be enclosed.
  13. anything with a turbo or supercharger is going to be illegal in NSW for a P plater....
  14. If you want something faster to replace it with, Ive got a seca the same model, originally 4AFE, with a 4AGE conversion. green, lowered, exhaust etc. goes like shit off a shovel. $2500
  15. Check the sender from the box, wiring might have come lose or something similar. If they are the same as the early ones, then unplug the wires (should be a 2 pin type plug) and just link the two together (bit of wire poked in each terminal) If your lights don't come on, then there is a problem elsewhere. All the switch in the box does is complete a circuit.
  16. Well not dog, but I named our kittne Elsie (LC) after LC toranas.... next pup will be male and Eljay, (LJ after LJ toranas!) friends have a choclate staffy called Simba. and for the life of me I can't remember anyone elses pets names!
  17. Thats a pretty big litter of kittens! My kitten was desexed, so no babies here! Which is more then likely a good thing, too many tom cats started coming around once she started going outside in the days. Why are people always anti cat just because they are dog people? I just like animals full stop, most people seem to think cats are girly or queer, but they are actually great pets for anyone, specially if you arent home enough to spend enough time with a pooch.
  18. cool! kittens are great fun.
  19. I don't have a problem with the hobby, but when kids are tearing up and down a small (about 15 metres wide max) residential reserve that houses back onto, then out onto the roads at warp speed at all hours of the day and night, thats not a hobby. Thats just plain f@$king inexcusable. And trust me, Ive had guys come back after theyve fallen off their bikes. I'm still here, and there is no mud on my face..?
  20. It lives. Need to fix tyhe throttle body, as the "pellet" system is jammed up according to the fuel injection guy. Said a good soak in carby clean would work to stop the "hunting". Sounds pretty sweet now. better then it ever did before I rebuilt it.
  21. you can buy new throttle shafts, and have the actual carb bodies bushed with poly bushing if you want. Make sure that the butterflys will seal completely in the inlet, as they have a tendancy to wear aswell. Other points to take note of, are the piston springs, (remove cap, they are above the piston) They can be worn out and not work correctly. It is worth spending a couple hundred dollars on getting them kitted up and ready to go. All parts can be purchased brand new. Not a corolla, but triple SUs on my torana. They make a few different linkage kits for these things, Might be worth contacting someone who deals in Redline performance (lynx) gear. even if you get a linkage kit for triple carbs, its not too much work to adapt it. I hacked up a linkage kit and made it swing the other way to hide it all under the carbys.
  22. haha, I didn't want to rant about the technical inadequacies of the add, just one that popped to mind with the "dubbing" over the top of an obviously American advert.
  23. http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html give the carb thing a crack. how much do you want to spend? Any carby joint can either rebuild a carby for you to suit boost, or sell you a recoed, sealed one.
  24. nice logic. Buy cheap spacers from ebay to save money, bolt them up, have a wheel come lose while cornering and die in a fiery inferno.... and another note something with a similar design to this- would be the best option as they put the majority of the load onto the centra hub rather then the studs. but the fact remains spacers and adaptors no matter how well made are not not legal in any state that has adopted the NCOP. The only exception is factory fitted spacers used on some models (eg porches) If you want to increase the spacing on the front discs then you can get hubs made to suit your intended application. In the end, its your car, so do what you want, but personally, Id be spending the extra money on the correct wheels. Its alot of "what ifs" but the major one is "what if I have an accident and kill someone" your insurance company will bail out on you as soon as they look into it.
