SKA80R Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 (edited) I have rewired the factory 4AGZE harness for AE101 Trueno in to my KE70 panelvan. Everything has been wire up except for the speedo sensor. My auto electrician just said to leave it out !!!! I have read other article saying that it should be hooked up to the tailshaft with a reed switch ? Can anyone tell me from past experience ? Has anyone got pics of a reed switch setup on a tail sharft ? Ta :ninja: Edited December 22, 2006 by SKA80R Quote
Des Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Does the speed sensor actually control anything ? Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 ke 70s and ae71s have a built in speed sensor in the dash, do no-one needs a reed setup. I have a pic in my worklog : http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...c=9903&st=0 I can dig it up if you can't find it Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 hmmm I can't seem to find it in my worklog, I will get back to you on it Quote
SKA80R Posted December 22, 2006 Author Report Posted December 22, 2006 Does the speed sensor actually control anything ? It controls the ecu and speedo cluster ? Quote
Des Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 It controls the ecu and speedo cluster ? Isnt the speedo driven by a cable ? Quote
Kebin[RL] Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 ae101's have electronic dash's like most new cars and the speedo is driven by pulses sent by the electronic speed sensor on the jdm fwd gearboxes. Ae71's and ke70's have mechancial speed sensors which spin the speedo cable all the way up to the factory dash. The engine ecu also needs vehicle speed data to determine such things as abs braking etc. Unfortunately our ae71s and ke70s were never equipped with such luxuries as abs and srs etc. Therefore, don't worry about the speed sensor wiring as it does not effect anything performance wise. Just levaeit unplugged as i did in my wagon :ninja: Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 ae71s and ke70s still have a pulse counter though, its built into the facia and is spun by the cable Quote
SKA80R Posted December 24, 2006 Author Report Posted December 24, 2006 ae71s and ke70s still have a pulse counter though, its built into the facia and is spun by the cable What did the AE and KE use the counter for??? I know the sensor in the AE101 dash cluster is a speed sensor (180km/h limiter) Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 they have it there but it isnt used, it doesnt have a pin coming off it in the connector, weird eh?? heres a link: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forum/in...c=3700&st=0 ignore the reeds bit and look near the bottom of page 1 Quote
Jono Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 i read somewhere that without it being connected the speed limiter won't work (which is good) but that there will be an error code and the check engine light will come on (which would be annoying) Quote
Raven Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 BUt ina KE70/AE71 there is no engine check light, so I'd just leave it disconnected :y: Quote
Jono Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 if i was using a stock computer i would definately wire up a check engine light to a LED somewhere. maybe even wire up a switch to the diagnostic connector pins so you can check it when you think somethings playing up. I'm lucky enough to be able to plug the haltech into a laptop :y: Quote

I'm lucky enough to be able to plug the haltech into a laptop :y: Wont i be able to still hook up the diagnostic to check the car from time to time? I can't see the use in putting a checklight in !!! cause i believe the light would be always on. Simply cause the AE101 speed sensor is missing( Speed limiter in dash cluster), abs is missing and the speedo reader(eletronic speedo sensor). From what i have read....All of these things can cause the check engine light to be activated Quote
Jono Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 you will still need to wire up a light of some kind so when you short the diagnostic pins you will be able to work out the error code. Thats why i suggested wiring it up with a switch so you can turn it off. Quote
