love ke70 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 would be easier to get it done custom when you get them retrimmed. Quote
JiP Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) So the trimmer can modify them? Edited October 19, 2009 by JiP Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Still thinking. Engine is a long way away still. Here's what I did today... Here we have the base rear bucket seat from my old KE50 liftback... Normally the base rear seats in sedans and hardtops bolt in at the front only. So I've had to cut the back mounts off to ensure I can bolt the top back seat in. And in... Now I'll have to get it all recovered in the material that I want but it doesn't look too bad. Might just get the pattern in the back rest altered to match and see if we can adjust the springs to form some back buckets. If not that just some more padding for a headrest. Now the fronts. They might not have a massive bucket but they are a Corolla seat that I can bolt right in and they have features. As you can see there is a spring that is attached to the seat rails that you wouldn't find on normal seats. Its so the seat springs forward to help passengers in the rear get out. As you can see that wire that is under the seat is so that when the seat reclines forward it triggers the seat to slide forward too. The buckets aren't real huge but I'll see if i can get them stuffed a bit higher when they get recovered. thats coming along very nicely jip and the back and fronts suit the car well Quote
JiP Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Okay not a great update but here goes. Went down the road today and bought a new gasket for my diff. So tomorrow I should hopefully drop it out and begin work on it. I want to repaint it, replace the oil and gasket before it goes back in. Also got my replacement seat bolts... And lastly got my sound deadener which I hope to start soon too... Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 starting to come along inch by inch jip and thats all that matters Quote
JiP Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 Do you at all know what happens when you clean up!! You find things. I found... Brand new Engine mounts and gearbox mount... Brand new brake hoses... Brand new bearings for the whole car... Got a bit of work done today. I dropped the diff, leafs, exhaust and all the mounts. Then high pressure cleaned everything. Man the clumps of dried up mud under this beast was amazing. I think I got everything. Tomorrow I slide on under her and start sanding away at the old sound deadening and with luck start applying the new stuff. Diffless... Clean!! I cleaned the engine bay while I was at it too... Anyone after a good used exhaust?? The diff... While I had it out I decided to give it a clean too to make it easier for me later... Doesn't she look hot :) Quote
towe001 Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Looking good my man looking good :) I know the feeling with figuring out a motor, i'm doing the same thing and leaving it till the last thing Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 she is coming along very nicely can't wait to read more and can't wait to start my build Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) Good luck sanding the sound deadening, that would be an absolute bitch of a job. If you want to remove it all and start again then get yourself a wire brush wheel that you can put in a drill from bunnings etc, cost like $5 each so get 3 or 4 to do the whole lot. You'll be amazed at how quick you'll carve through it. :) Also read the can as to weather you should prime the bare metal first. You should be using etch primer for anything bare metal anyway. JiP Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 Already there. Here is my cheap air drill and my sanding pad. Man this attachment is just as good as a wire brush, takes everything off, tho I do have an actual wire brush as a back up for when I have to get into the small crevices. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Good work :) , yeah used one of those pads stripping back a shell before. They're a bit less abrasive than a wire wheel and can wear out a bit quicker too. So maybe use the wire wheel just to knock the major lumps off the deadener then start using your 3M pad. You'll wear the pad out too quick otherwise. :D Quote
love ke70 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 looks the goods, why did u go air over power drill? Quote
1JZ~lux Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I always get a warm fuzzy feeling seeing an old hardtop getting restored properly :lolcry: Good work. Quote
JiP Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 GAH!!! I'm stick picking sound deadener out of my nose. I'll post pics up soon. Last time I used a power drill I blew it up. Quote
JiP Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 lOl pics of the car not no nose :lolcry: So I sanded the whole rear end. Okay before... After sanding... After 1st coat. I'll put another coat on tomorrow... I only did that side today. Tomorrow I might do the other but most likely will do the under carriage in the arvo when its not hot. The sound deadener dry's quick. I'll also buy some spray on deadener for the places I can't reach. I noticed this while I was sanding. Its got mounts for a tow bar. I've never realised that... lOl and me. I couldn't help but take a pick. And my compressor took most of the dust off me too. Okay lastly a question about my fuel lines and tank. Inside the rubber part to the left there is a bolt. Is that the drainage nut to the fuel tank? Also to the right are the two fuel lines. One that goes to the fuel filter and the other that goes to the charcoal canister. I should be right to drain the tank through that right? Also the condition of the lines aren't the best. just surface rusty. I should be right to sand them back with some wet and dry, or is it best to paint them too? I might have to completely remove the whole set up including the brake lines as they will be in the way when I have to sand the sound deadener. Oh and I've ordered myself some nolathane Bushes for the rear of my car. I shopped around and autobarn came out cheapest. I'm thinking they must be giving me discounts of some sort. I do go there alot. Well I did with Lolla in her last few months. They came out cheaper than all the on ther places including Pedders. Perdders were almost double just to supply bushes. Quote
