Hello everyone. Since i bought the ae71 parts car last week ive been thinking about just chucking a motor in it and thrashing it around whatever space i can get it to. It already has fairly firm aftermarket suspension in it, at the full ride height, so it could be fun to do. Would be easy too as all i need is a rwd bigport setup and I'm away. The other option is a little more exotic, which would probly be an ra65 celica with some breed of nice, torquey toyota v6. I know one option is cheap and cheerful and the other is going to be expensive and time consuming, but i just can't decide (money isnt really a massive concern as it takes what it takes), you know. Tell me what you guys and gals think!!

I was thinking of trying to source a 1mzfe. They have impressive numbers stock, especially torque. Starting to be quite common, but the compass needs to be turned, so to speak.

It would be a shame to dismantle the whole car and kill another ae71. I might flare the rear end as an excuse to cut the rust out. Id probly do a shoddy cage in it and weld up the chassis.

Keep the opinions flowing guys, this is good stuff.

My mum has a early 1mzfe Camry and it goes like stink once the revs are up but it defiantly is low on torque, The later model VVT-i 1mz might be a different story.

*Cough 1mz-fte :lolcry:

Id definately shoot for the vvti version, to quote wiki, which is not necessarily correct..

"The 1MZ-FE with VVT-i is used in the Avalon, Highlander and Camry. Output is 210 hp (172 kW) at 5800 RPM with 222 lb·ft (328 N·m) of torque at 4400 RPM."

"The 1MZ-FE is a 3.0 L (2994 cc) engine. Bore is 87.5 mm and stroke is 83 mm. Output is 168-190 hp @ 5200-5400 RPM with 183-193 lb·ft of torque at 4400 RPM."

Pretty sure we never got that version, best we saw out of the old MZ was 145kw in the Avalon and Sportivo Camry

The 97 to 01 Camry got the 140kw version 1mz and Later model after that got the VVT-i version ie the model with the massive tail lights, I think they were the 1st sportivo models i THINK.

I've always had a hankerin' to use a Prado 3400 V6. not sure what engine it is, but if its a hardcore swamp donkey you're building I think it would work rather well being RWD already... just whack the whole engine and box in without the front driveshaft and you're away.

Prado writeoffs for parts donors are cheap too because there's a zillion of em.

The VVTi badge was on the 4-cylinder Sportivos, as they had the 2AZ-FE VVTi engine. The difference between the 140kw and 145kw 1MZ is purely in the exhaust, which is why the stock models had 140 and the Sportivos got 145kw (the upgrade was made available on all models though, I think)

That'd be the 5VZ-FE, older series than the MZ, same series as the original 2.5L 2VZ and 3.0L 3VZ Camry V6s. Plenty of torque, but not much in the way of power (134kw)

I've had a 1ggte powered SA63 and currently own a RA65 with a 1jzgte.

The celica is an awesome car.

try and get hold of an SA63 ( 2 litre but with proper pop up headlights and irs) and put in the motor from a gt4 celica if u want a 4 pot or a 1ggte is u want the straight 6, 1jz is a bit more work but i'm about to make one so i can let u know how i go

You really should post the 1j celica on rides and projects, mate. Keen to see pics.
