Be careful with some of those technotoytuning steering components. Rose joint steering and suspension parts can't be steel centered for road use in Vic.

Front lip looks great. Golf 2 piece?

Nope, fiberglass TE27 one. Not really keen on the Golf lips on these..

I expect the arms will only be used off-street ;)

I finally got around to working on the minor brake upgrade for the front. Stripped down the KE70 Panno calipers and wire-brushed the rust, degreased them and replaced all the seals and then painted them. I just need to finish trimming back the Cortina EBC pads and then fit it all up to the car.

Still slow progress on the motor whilst I save funds..

Hey guys,

Still slow progress these days! :/

I just need to source some backing plates and then I should be able to fit up my new brakes

In other news my new wheel and boss kit arrived;

I must say I'm stoked with how it looks and feels! IMO the woodgrain and black spokes look at home next to the tan interior, and not too flashy or outrageous.

I wanted that wheel for my car. Saw them on eBay and they aren't cheap! But damn they look good. Where did you get yours?

Yeah mate unfortunately they aren't! A bit of saving was needed there... I figured I will be keeping the car long term so there is no point half-arsing it.

I bought mine from eBay out of The Netherlands, but I noticed Slide Industries had a boxing day sale the next day so they would have been cheaper! I found eBay was cheaper any other day though.

Hey guys,

My apologies for being slack with this car recently. Been pretty busy with uni and the racecar so the KE20 has been relegated to daily duties until I have a bit more time in summer. The diff upgrade and motor swap will happen then.

It doesn't help that I've been distracted by this recently!

Also I picked this up today..

Exciting things to come with the KE20 and MX32 come summer :D

Hey guys,

A little bit of progress to report. I have bought a manifold to suit the Weber's and started porting the 3KB head and deshrouding the valves yesterday. It's been great to learn off someone who's done it all before and save a bit of cash too. I'll try and keep things on the move so the motor can be together and in the car sometime in January. The uni racecar comp is on in mid December so I'm still short on time for the rolla until then. For those interested check out the team page https://www.facebook.com/teamswinburne?fref=ts

It's pretty cool building and racing a car with someone else's money!

I hope you're not going to try and port match that 7kc manifold gasket? Being 3 layers the edges all bur up.

I made a template from the manifold and then matched the ports to that, and trimmed the gasket a bit afterwards. Can't say I had an issue. I didn't have to take very much off and I was pretty gentle though.

Hey guys,

I've progressed a little more on the motor build, most recently I finished the head porting and evened the size of each combustion chamber. Just before xmas I cleaned up the Redline manifold, and matched the inlet of the manifold to the base of the Weber by making a simple template.

In each case I started with a carbide before swapping to a stone to smooth out, and finishing off with an 80 grit emery and a little lower speed. (Pictured below to better explain). I'm led to believe that an 80 grit finish is more beneficial than a polished finish, this is a hotly contested debate!

Today I took some more measurements on the chambers and piston crown volume, before handing it over to the machinists one last time. It looks like I'll end up with about 10:1 comp which should be pretty streetable. They'll be skimming the head and sorting out the valve seats and guides.

I also repainted the front lip after a bit of damage in a Bunnings carpark, it's pictured below with the Cressy. It's hilarious that the first car I own with working aircon was built in 1977! It is ice cold, a lot more effective than the MR2.

I'll post some more detailed pics as the assembly process begins.

Cheers

Unfortunately I don't have much to update with regards to the KE20 as I'm still waiting on machining.

It is worth mentioning that I now own another Rolla though haha! I won't be starting a thread as I can't take credit for all Jarrad's hard work to date.

He is also now a proud adub owner ;) Great to see it go to someone with the taste and commitment he has. Unfortunately it was a case of to many projects for me.

I'll just be enjoying the ksev with fairly minor changes (Corona LCAs etc), particularly whilst the 20 is off the road for the 5k swap.

Progress!

Cleaned down the block/cam/crank today (degreaser, soapy scrup, petrol wash, compressed air) and assembled the crank, cam, and bearings to the block. I also checked the end float and ring gap, finishing the rings with a ring file.

Sorry for the picture quality, this phone is average at best.
