Mybowlcut Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 Get someone to operate the HOT/COLD switch on the dash and you watch if the valve is opening or closing, basicly if the stuff attached to the tap is moving it should work. Might want to give it a spray with some WD40 or similar. Ahhh I've seen that before! Cheers! :lolcry: Will try it out with the gf. Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 Ok... I tried it out and got her to pull it to hot and cold and the lever does move so I'm guessing the tap is broken or something? Is it easy enough to take apart myself or should I just get another? Quote
HRV-00S Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Sounds like a blockage to me try pulling some hoses off to check that water is going through the system, be careful not to burn yourself and remember to top up the radiator. If the taps stuffed replace it. Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 Sounds easy enough... Are they hard to get back on though? I know they have those weird clips and they look pretty tight... I'll keep a bucket handy or something for when I get it loose enough to get it off. Is it best to get a used tap from wreckers? Cheers. Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Ok I tried to pull some hoses off but they're stuck on well! I couldn't get this one off after unscrewing the clip enough to make it loose (as in yes I got the clip loose, but the hose is like fused onto the pipe or something :lolcry: ): And this one has a weird-arse clip that I'm unsure of how to loosen/remove: Any help is appreciated. Edit: Just rang up some wreckers and even a toyota wrecking place and NONE of them have heater taps for a ke70... Might have to buy one off someone on here if mine is screwed.. Edited April 29, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote

Old stuck on hoses are very hard to get off and the heater core is fragile, as is the tap, so don't just pull on them. Get something spike shaped and poke it carefully under the lip of the hose and gently prise it free. The just grab th hose and TWIST it, it should pop off very easy once you twist. I you have to cut the clamp off the go and get a hose clamp for it of course. Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 Cheers for the fast response! I rang up Repco just then. The guy said he has a universal "5/8" heater tap... I hate imperial or whatever so I asked him what it'd be in metrics and he said 16mm... he said it was 50 bucks. Sound about right? Quote

Yeah suppose so, but go and have a look to see whether you need it first, might just be blocked remember mate. Better have a hose clamp spare to get her back together if you cut the clamp off remember. Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Hmm... Hose clamp? Doubt I have one of those. I'll get one before I cut it off if I can't get the hose off. I'll go try to get the hose off with something sharp now. :lolcry: Keep ambulance on stand-by for me, would ya? Edited April 29, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Blockeeeed! :lolcry: I got the hose off with a flat head screwdriver and my hands of steel ( heh... ). I got some on my finger! Gross! It smells like... clay and female juices. It's blocked. I shrunk myself to the size of a small insect and went in with a bucket and a toothbrush. Haha nah I went in with a toothbrush and thought it might just be congested towards the end of the hose... but I scooped a bit out and I'm pretty sure the whole f^^^ing hose is blocked. What do I doooo?! I can't take the hose off cause of those weird clips.. I dunno how to get them off. Also there's this wire thing that attaches to a metal clip just below the hose... the wire goes to the firewall and looks like it's pretty important... I'm lost guys! Edit: The wire that attaches below the hose: Another Edit: I squeezed some huge radiator hose (haha) and the clayish crap got flushed out of the heater tap, followed by radiator coolant. I honestly didn't think that would happen haha.. I was expecting the hose that went from the radiator (or whatever) to the heater tap to get flushed but either way I'm pretty sure the tap is clean now. All I gotta do is clean the hose that goes to the tap from the radiator (or whatever). The only thing is... how can I be sure the blockage doesn't go further down into the radiator?? HRV-00S Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Hahaha, go down to your local auto parts supplier and get yourself some radiator flush, read directions and hope for the best  While you've got the hose off start the motor and let it pump the water out and any other shit that is in there too. By the looks of that the hole cooling/heating system is going to need a really good flush or two or three :lolcry: That wires just an earth wire, but it needs to be there. Edit: While your at the shop get some hose clamps to replace those dodgy factor looking things Edited April 29, 2008 by HRV-00S Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Radiator flush, eh? Flush or two or three? :lolcry: Won't that mean that my radiator will have no coolant? Isn't it dangerous to have a car on with no coolant? Haha. Edit for your edit: Will do... factor looking things? You mean those pin things? How do I get them off? Edited April 29, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote
HRV-00S Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Needle nose pliers in the round end of the pin and twist and pull maybe? or an angle grinder :lolcry: With the flush you drain the coolant and fill with clean water, then add the radiator flush run car for how ever long the container said, drain and repeat as needed, *make sure the heater is in the HOT position* This stuff <---Click Edited April 29, 2008 by HRV-00S Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Ok. So I drain the coolant... and fill it with clean water. Can this be tap water or does it have to be sterilised? I've got the nulon radiator flush & clean thank god. It says this on the label: Add contents to radiator and turn on heater. Run engine for 20 minutes to 1 hour. Stop engine and allow to cool. Flush system thoroughly with clean water. It says to add water afterwards, whereas you say to drain the coolant and then add water and then the flush... ahh! Haha. Edit: I added the whole bottle in without draining it first or whatever. I'm still waiting for another 10 or so minutes but the air from the heater doesn't seem to be getting hot... which is kinda gay, but I guess I should just wait until I flush the radiator and put new coolant in, eh? Oh yeah, I also got hose clamps. :lolcry: The 1 that I've put on looks all new and shinnnnny! Edited April 29, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote
Mybowlcut Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) I'm having a bit of trouble finding out how to flush the radiator. I can't see underneath it so I can't find any plug etc. Edited April 29, 2008 by Mybowlcut Quote
