SoulSearcher Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Well my clutch has been playing up for a while, and last night I couldn't select reverse....and I forgot about the severity of the problem this morning...couldn't select reverse... turned the car off, gear selection is fine with and without clutch.... put it into reverse, start car, reverse works! YAY.... but then I couldn't get it out of reverse...turn car off... select first, start car, drive off YAY.... oh wait.... can't get it out of first! you see where I'm going with this??! Thought it could be the hydraulics, but the reservoirs were both full....so I called the RAA to see if they could pin-point the exact problem.... and OMFG! you know what the guy said??!?!!? first off... that's a pretty colour on that car ......then his diagnosis? "Sweetheart! you're just not pressing the clutch pedal all the way in, and it's not engaging. You really need to drive it rough" I couldn't be bothered arguing with him, so I smiled, said "thank you, where do I sign?" what a frickin DUMB ASS! I took it to my mechanic and he's said that there is a knob (or raised bit) between where the clutch plate and the pressure plate has come off and is causing my problems....while we're at it we're doing the clutch master and slave cylenders.. car off the road until probably friday and at a bargain cost of $1200 .... I so want to start on the engine bay but things keep breaking! Lesley :D Quote
irokin Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Does he mean the release pivot? Those things break a lot on SR20 gearboxes. Basically if we upgrade the clutch we have to change the pivot to the nismo chromoly item or risk it snapping. Looks like this: Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 1, 2008 Author Report Posted July 1, 2008 no idea...he explained it over the phone...I haven't seen it yet. I was busy trying to get the RIGHT clutch for my car... the suppliers keep trying to give me the clutch for the standard rolla, not MY rolla. Quote
xstatic Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 raa guys are getting stupider by the day i swear when my wifes vs berlina (family car) broke down the raa guy said "crank angle sensor" one problem the spark plugs were still sparking... idiot are u going to put a sports clutch in it while u have the chance??? cheers scott Quote
beerhead Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 You'll find the turbo sportivo's won't have there own listing on any parts database apart from toyota's. The clutch will probably be the same as any 7AFE, same flywheel, as the turbo gear is just a bolt on. Just get any exedy heavy duty and you'll be laughing, use a 100kw 4age clutch if think the HD 7AFE clutch might have a weak pressure plate, call exedy they'll know the deal, fairly certain the 7AFE runs a 212mm clutch. The average parts interpreter these days don't have a clue :D I'd be asking about the cost of $1200, seems a bit overpriced if he's just replacing the clutch pivot, or did it snap off, and he can't replace it and needs to swap the box or bellhousing. Quote
Raven Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Clutch pivot shoud just unscrew.... $1200 is exxy. Call Adelaide Clutch Service and ask what they list for a heavy duty clutch for a 7AFE with Turbo :D Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) see, Toyota have told me it's a different clutch to the normal corolla...I know that originally they came out with a TRD HD Clutch, but last year the cost of that was over five grand, so they sent my old clutch to get it matched. I have calls in with three people trying to get the right parts etc, but I'll probably end up going with an extreem HD clutch with an organic plate. Oh, and the 1200 is for the supply and fit of master and slave clutch cylinders and the clutch. I'm pretty happy with the price. Lesley :D Edited July 2, 2008 by SoulSearcher Quote

Should be well under a grand to get all that done. Fitting a master and slave for the clutch is a bolt in affair and shouldnt warrant that much in labour costs on top of the parts. I'd seriously look at sourcing the correct parts yourself and get someone to fit them up, as opposed to getting a mechanic who will get them at trade price and then jack up an 80% mark-up on the price which will be well above what they would retail them for. don't get sucked in because you're a chick is all I'm saying, and well, $1200 sounds like you're getting sucked in. :D Edited July 2, 2008 by Raven Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 considering the gearbox is the same across the range of the ae112 (note including the sportive) exedy have a couple of clutchs in there sports tuff range. heavy duty kit - part no. TYK-6932 HD heavy duty button kit - part no. TYK-6932 HDB then the also have a racing clutch stage 1 sports ceramic kit - part no. TYK-6932 SC this is all according to there website of course Quote
DearmanKE Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 yeah, 1200 sounds like alot for that, get yourself the bits you need, even though it is a turbo rolla i doubt the master ns lave will cost that much, clutch will depend on what you want but for a heavy duty organic it shoudlnt be more than 300 Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 I'm still not too sure if the clutch is the same across all the range..they don't actually have a listing specific to the turbo, and I'd hate to get the part then find out it's the wrong one.. I'm STILL waiting on calls to find out about the parts. I did go online to the exedy site and I got the part numbers and sent them an email to confirm that they're the same. The cost of the clutch was 409 (but I have had a couple of cheaper quotes but only by about $30 ish bucks) and labour was going to cost $500 which I thought was fair, because he's put off a couple of other jobs to do mine quickly...... on another subject....I got an email this morning, they want me and my car at toyota head quarters for a photo shoot (for the toyochamp trophy presentation). I told them I needed a week! Lesley :D Quote
cuzzo Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Are you a member on toymods? does this http://toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36303 help? Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 hey thanks cuzzo, I don't usually go to toymods, I got a call from my mechanic. The car's done ;) although, I had 2 days of running around like a blue assed fly trying to find the right parts, and found out more about my car in the process ;) .... but now ..... my turbo flutters, sounds cool, but now that has to get looked at.... ho hum...... Quote
irokin Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Sounds like hes just neglected to reconnect a vac line somewhere. Fluttering wont kill your turbo... Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 we checked the vacuum hoses, but couldn't find any loose ones....tomorrow I'm gonna have a look and see what I can see..... Quote
