Give your steering are a few taps with a hammer around the tie rod end, It has never failed me yet. Quote
styler Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 you get a tie rod fork tool and a tie rod hinged breaker tool for stubborn tie rods ends, use the one that suits you if the hammer wont budge them. Quote
WinKE55 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 If you are trying to remove the tie rod being the balljoint area that is on your stub axle area, get the hammer and smash the stub axle area where the balljoint is with a hammer. Make sure you use some grunt though, My drivers side came out piss easy, but my passenger side took me a bit of hard hits. Don't actually hit the balljoint though, or the thread as you may damage it. cuzzo Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Put one hammer one the back of where your going to hit it. Alternatively destroy the thread and get a new one. Use the nut just at the top of the thread so that the top of the thread and top of the nut are flush. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 sorry shoulda been more accurate. it won't unthread from the sleeve! Quote
love ke70 Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 put the steering arm back on it and use that as a lever. failing that, pull the rack and put it in a vice so you can get something bigger and in a better to access spot to turn it. stiltsons would be good, much better than vice grips. greenmac80 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 good idea didn't even think of that!. hmmm shit though cos i gotta take the strut out again.! Quote
love ke70 Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 you don't need to take the strut out to take the steering arm out do you? Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 no but to try using the arm as leverage i will Quote
Ke20nut Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 put pressure on the tie rod end. Use a piece of timber jack it up under the tie rod end till it touches. don't jack the vehicle from this piont as u will bend the rod. place enough pressure on it in an upward direction , then try undoing the nut. it will work . cuzzo Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Ideally for that you want to use a rattle gun. I'm guessing you don't have access to one of those. :jamie: These guys are suggesting some good stuff. Quote

cuzzo Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 people thanks for the help but i've undone the nut and the tie rod is out of the steering arm it won't unthread from the rack end! ahh i see it wont come out of the sleeve from here ^ Have you undone the cups that go over the threads? Like a cup with a bolt through it. Try and screw it in further first one or two threads then soak it with lube/ tap it with a hammer a few times then try undoing... Quote
