LittleRedSpirit Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 hey guys I'm building a 1ggte ke70 and its obvious the stock diff will not handle the power I'm just gonna save my self the hassle now and get onto the diff, i have been looking around a bit and r31 sound like it could be a goer i don't want to break the bank i just want something thats pretty easy to convert over to. Ive heard of people using diffs from ae86jdm, ra40 ra60, t18, r31 nissan, Hilux RN2x, Tarago YR21, TA22. Point is you can make any diff fit as long as you can get the mounts on the housing swapped for those from your old diff. The only ones from that list that will bolt straight in are the ae86, t18, and ra40/60 and TA22, afaik. All of which are T series Toyota diffs which can have lsd fitted. Quote
Boost+k Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 i'd recomend a early hilux G series diff, but all depends what you are gonna use the car for, but if you get the right model its only 20mm wider total, so thats only 10mm a side so you just have to do mounts/drive shaft etc and your away... thats what i run, still run standard hilux drums aswell :y: only problem with the hilux is the lsd design isnt the best for road going cars that want to go fast... its more designed for times where you have NO traction i.e in the mud Quote
styler Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 f series is a good compromise between weight / strength and avaliability of parts / lsd types for a 1ggte power of say 200kw Quote
HEKTIC Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 hey, i to am looking at building a 1ggte car, only mine will be a ke35 i bought an r31 diff (borg warner 78 i think) with an lsd today for $60 i belive they are something like 1480mm wide dunno why that figure just rings a bell, and I'm pretty sure ae86/e7/ta22 etc etc are 1430 something along those lines which is about 30mm bigger than a standard ke3*ke5* it will have to have the mounts to suit my car welded on (as would yours) I'm not going to shorten my diff either like most do with the r31 diffs in corollas, i'll just make do with the extra track anyway i dunno if that is any help to you but yeah peace Johnny Quote

HEKTIC Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 a mate bought a silhouette for $500 to get the manual parts out of and didn't want the diff, was only going to get crushed with it in there, so $60 = win win Quote
