towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Found this while i was doing some cleaning up of the wheel well and checking for rust I don't think its overly structural but.... would it be passable on a roadworthy ?? Quote
towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 After a bit more work on the wire wheel and i have a feeling that it goes through the frame (between the red lines) Quote
JiP Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Looks like it got a new front end. Either cause of rust (which is very common in KE55's), or from a crash. You could surely grind it down, smooth it off and bog/paint over it. Plus the guard will cover the top part. Quote
towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 I don't think its from rust cause there's a couple of other local spots thats got some dents. From what i've noticed on the car so far is that it looks fairly clean with rust. Quote
irokin Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I think they'd be hesitant to pass it like that but then again their standards vary wildly. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Blackjack is your friend i say......... No'one will notice it if you load it on thick enough :) Quote
towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 Blackjack you say :) irokin, thats what i'm a little nervous about Quote
Redwarf Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Looks like a reasonable job. Standard quarter cut. I've seen much worse jobs. (I've done much worse jobs!) *shrug* I'd pass it if it looked pretty. Quote
towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 So pretty well much just clean it up and make it look ok and it should be fine, yeah ? Quote
corolla_nut Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 If there are no sharp protrusions on the front or sides, which there doesn't seem to be, and no steering/suspension components have been welded (or look like they have been welded) and there is no advanced or extensive rust in structural components (ie bubbles of rust and/or rust holes), and no extensive rust (ie holes) anywhere else, then there is nothing that they can knock it for. cover it with sound deadener etc and make it not visible and it will be even less of a worry. beleive me, a roadworthy is for the purpose of ensuring cars are at a MINIMUM standard to be on the road.... it really is the MINIMUM!!! :) you don't even have to have all your wheel nuts fitted for example, as long as you have a hubcap covering them so they can't be seen... hey your wheels could all be loosely held on with two studs each, as long as they can drive it in and drive it out and can't SEE the studs, even if they hear them rattling inside the hubcap you can't remove the hubcap on a rego check to find it... nothing can be removed to check anything on a roadworthy (in nsw)... you can't go looking for the loaf of bread under the bog in the chassis rails on the old holdens either.... Falken_KE30 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 That might be NSW, but i know as of june or july this year the inspection rules have changed in Tassy. They actually have to hoist the car up and manually check brakes, suspension components ect. Only reason i know is i went to the place that will be doing my inspection and ask what they check, whats legal and whats not ect.. Towe, Just grind it smooth, thing layer of bog, sand, and then put deadener over it... good luck :) Quote
towe001 Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 Towe, <snipe> good luck :P Not something i really wanted to hear :) Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Didnt mean it in a bad way, was meaning "good luck" in the grinding, sanding, bogging painting fun of it!! haha if you do that id say they wouldnt even notice it, I'm sure cars get panels welded in all the time, and even front sections replaced. KE30_KE35_KE55 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Any structural repairs I have done that required inspection have had to be inspected before filling or painting was done. Your cars repair job looks neat to me. Quote
irokin Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 Guys remember that the laws still vary state to state... Quote
