#%#$ing Health System

My 2 year old has had his appendix out a couple of days ago.

Took him to the local hospital after a night of screaming and walking around doubled over and holding stomach. They x rayed him and sent him home as they could see nothing. They decided not to do a blood test.

He spent the rest of the day doubled over in pain. Contacted the GP that night after work and he decided to get him checked out in another hospital. Now we live in a country town that is equally distant (45 min) to two major centres, one of which I have family in. Guess which one they sent us to. Yep the one without family and they refused to change hospitals!!!!

So we load up the three kids (oldest just turned three, youngest 9 mths) and rushed to hospital as instructed. Arrived at 7:00ish and sat and sat and sat. At 10:30 inquired again when he was going to be seen too and was informed that there was 10 people before him! Basically told them that we were going to go home. Finally was seen to at 11:00.

Three doctors checked him out - three different opinions  Finally a child specialist surgeon checked him out around midnight, when I cracked the shits and took the two other boys home leaving the wife there, and decided that his appendix was the problem. Operated on at 2:30 am.

By this stage his appendix had nearly burst and instead of a two day recovery time he is still screaming and wont be out until Monday at the earliest...... :lolcry: So every day need to load up the kids and drive 45 - 60 min to see him without the luxury of dumping the other two at the grandparents.

had mine out when i was around 16... its still the worst pain ive had to date ... What makes it worse is you feel so Hungary, yet you vomit when you take your first bite..

apparently mine burst as the surgeon put it on the table or whatever they do with it.

Hope your son gets better soon... best wishes

Thanks for the thoughts guys

Well the poor little bugger is showing no signs of improvement at all. They have started giving him morphine to settle him down. Not really reassuring when the fourth doctor (another surgeon) isn't sure why he isnt responding to treatment and that she may have to open him up again to look for any further infection. Makes me think that we are not being told everything..............

I hate waiting at the hospital with the kids, I hope all goes well with your little one.

Makes two of us. If me or the other half then yeah its relativity ok, but when its the kids and you know their not well (like when my lil boy had gastro) its another thing.

Hope it all goes well

i got knocked out playin footy earlier on this year and was rushed to hospital.

i had neck pain and the back of my head was killin me.

all they did was take a few xrays and wouldnt take a catscan

until my mum spoke some hospital mumbo jumbo (she works in one) so they decided to do a catscan

turned out i had a fractured skull and if they didnt do the scan they would have just sent me home

sooo stupid
