The Ke70 is a keeper, On boxing day I was approached by two young guys asking if I was going to sell it. They were absolutley head over heels. However I said it was not for sale as the car is very sentimental to me as grandpa owned it.

 

There are no major updates, but quite few more recent photos of the exterior, interior, and dash. Just the day before I spent an hour and a half slowly cleaning every part of the interior. Like the indicator/wiper stalks, window winder handles, interior door handles, the chrome handles to open the door from the inside, seat belt buckles (orange button) and the chrome part that clicks in and locks.. Last but not least I wiped down all the vinyl seats with warm water and a cloth.

 

The water in the bucket afterwards was a bit brown, considering the car was very clean already. After wiping down the seats thoroughly and letting them dry, I could just smell the new car smell on the seats.... after nearly 27 years.

 

I'm in the process of looking for some SE door cards/trims as the ones in the front doors were both cut to have speakers put in which I don't like... Ive looked at a few wreckers but the only blue ones they have are the CS ones with the map pockets and carpet. Or the late model or slant front ke70 with the really dark blue trim which doesnt match with the lighter blue. I'll just keep looking until I find them, or I'll buy them off some one on here if they want to sell them.

 

The dash underneath is absolutley perfect with no craks. When grandpa had the car it had no dash mat but the car was and still is under cover. Though at the wreckers I was lucky enough to find a mat that was blue/grey to cover the dash. The car is very close to reaching 130,000 km, but is curently at 129,997. By keeping my ke70 stock and original as possible, it will begin to look different from the higher portion of Corollas which are being done up/modified.

 

For the age of the car and the condition its in, Its nice to take it on a drive because it attracts positive attention.

WoW mate, thats one HOT KE70!! Is that radiator shroud original?? I don't think I've ever seen one that big.

Thanks Jip, yes that radiator shroud is 100% original. I'm keeping the look of the engine bay as it is, "original as possible" but also immaculate at the same time. The engine bay has been polished, along with the rocker cover, ignition coil, original radiator cap, brass heater pipe joins and the chrome clips on the air filter...

So your wanting to keep it original but while adding extras by upgrading the model to a CS-x right??

No way do I want to upgrade it to xx or cs-x specs. Any of the extras that you can see on the car were Toyota Accessories that were specifically for the ke70 series that were acquired over time. The car is the SE model so its preety standard, however Toyota gave buyers the option to differentiate their car from all the other Corollas.

 

The car looks like a CS as it has the exterior pin striping, rub strips and chrome wheel trims. Though these were still listed as options for lesser models like mine. With the ke70 accessories brocure I have, I will list the options they offered, and I'll asterix what my Ke70's got.

While my Ke70 has all these (original) factory options, It is still an SE model regardless, only the previous owners and myself purchased accessories to make the car original looking but at the same time different from other Corollas.

Yeah, well what I was leaning towards was the A/C. Just seeing if you'd stick it in. But then if you do it just not original. Like you'd need to get it retrofitted for new gas and it wouldn't have the factory decals for the A/C.

Nope, I was the one with tarago rims and 4K-C struggling up hills.

Air conditioning was an option, though the original owner never orderd it. If I wanted to I could put it in along with all the piping, ducting, condenser and wiring etc from another ke70 fitted with it, though I can't justify it as the car is rarely driven.

 

As for decals, the only ones that Ive seen are one in the engine bay from nippondenso that is silver, and another sticker that says Toyota Air that goes on the glove box lid. As for the a/c switch itself, you could either pull one out of an a/c Toyota provided its genuine Toyota and put it in, or you could put the entire switch panel out of an a/c equipped ke70 and put it into mine and you could say its factory.

 

So if I put a/c in the ke70, It would still be considered original as all the components are oem, except for the gas.

the Air cond kit came with a decal kit with stickers all-ready mentioned also for the two rear vent windows blue with Nippon denso air written on them. the whole system can be fitted in about 4 hours.

I Bought a spare radiator yesterday from Pick a Part For my ke70. Its absolutley perfect, its probably a year old but overrated and its for a manual too, no transmission lines. The ke70 I got it from was in preety bad shape, and you wouldnt think that such a good radiator came from it even though it did.

 

Its taken me 12 months to track down a really good one. This radiator is the early model ke70 type that has the black shroud that screws onto it which covers the cooling fan entirely. Unlike the 1983 model flat fronts that have the radiator with the little metal shroud on top. With the cooling fan visable.

 

Pick a Parts price for a radiator was $ 75.00, Mr Radiator said a new one is worth $ 375.00 for a manual one minus transmission lines. When dad and I went to pay for it, the guy said radiators are on special so its worth $ 40.00 instead of $ 75.00. Talking about a bargain!

 

I gave it a flush and inside its clean, so now i'll just buy some good quality coolant and probably swap it over and clean out the old one properly.
