Hi guys,

I am new to the rollaclub, but not new to the Corolla scene. However, I have just purchased a 1981 Ke55, it has the flat plain tail lights stock standard and I was wanting to change them over to the Ke30 chrome surrounded rounded tail lights. Can anyone tell me whether the Ke55 shell will support it, or whether the Ke30 has a slightly different shell mould?

 

Any help would be appreciated!

the 55 lights are larger and thus to fit 30 lights you would have to fibreglass to suit.

I wasn't sure whether they would or not, I know the Ke55's are larger, I just thought with the tail lights and chrome surrounds of the Ke30, it would end up the same overall size.

Is it a KE55 sedan or coupe? There are major differences in the tailights

 

Plus, early KE55 sedans have different style tailights to late 55 sedans.

Sorry, it is a 1981 Ke55 sedan

which is exactly the same as mine, and they are big ones, he did explain in the first post what ones they were.

Yeah, its just plug and play. Everything should fit.

both styles still available trough ebay but They seem to fade quicker than the originals.

Just in regards to the above, there are two different answers.

 

1 saying that it is a straight swap and both fit and the other saying it will need to be fibreglassed.

 

 

Just curious to know which it is?

except the globe holders are different

 

i had late 55 sedan lights on mine, when i swapped to ke30's i had to use the bulb holder

Ok cool thanks guys. When your saying you had to use the bulb holder, I'm guessing ya mean that you had to use the one from the 55 on the 30 casing yeah? And yeah I have the ugly 55 tail lights. And the ke30 front grill and round head lights fit into the 55 don't they? Just have to remove the brackets?

No, can't use a 30 bulb holder on a 55 light must use a 30,
