steel wheels can be done, race engineering brisbane is a wheel modification shop

that specializes in this type of work. seems like you buy the centre and the outer band,

then they weld it at the desired offset and drill the pcd, id imagine about $800 a set?

they also could widen your wheels but I'm not sure how economical that would be?

there are multiple ways.

 

one, cut the welds holding the centre in to your old outers, buy new outers of desired width. weld centres in.

 

two, cut two rims at different widths, and weld together. use four rims to make two.

 

neither are advised for a diy attempt, unless offroad use.

 

you can buy new wheel outers for on road use, and they can be done professionally.

btw, i have some stock ke35-55 steel centres in brand new ROH 13x7 outers, (could be made in any offset desired within reason)

Greenmac was telling me that to widen a set of steelies you have to supply them with two sets :cool:.

I currently have two 13x4.5 steel mazda rims getting widened to 13x6. I supplied two complete rims

and the wheel repairer is removing the outer rim from its centre and replacing it with a wider outer

rim, which he keeps in stock. Most widths are available.This is costing around $60-70 each

I got a quote for the outer rims, they are available in 4" 7" 8" the prices were between $52 and $58

depending on which width. This is 15" of course.

 

As for centres, there are plenty of suitable fwd wheels that can donate, just cut off the welds, and knock them out.

 

i get mine for $5 each at the local tyre guy.

just a point of note, joining two wheels together isnt really legal, as you are not allowed to run a full circumference weld on a rim...

When I did it we drilled out the spot welds in the standard rims and knocked out the centres. Then I found a Pair of 13" Holden chromies which had the centres "seam" welded in not spot welded. Grind the welds and knock out centres.

 

Matched up the Rolla centres with the Holden rims and tacked into place. Mounted on to car and spun them to check for any wobbles. Once ok, got a mate who is a boiler maker to weld them.

 

Ran them for a couple of years with no issues. Even smacked into a bank with enough force to punch a log into the boot without damaging the rim.
