Tiger Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Would you think this would work? Being as smaller V8 from the early Holdens, this was a crazy thought. As people can convert a Commodore 3.8 litre 6 Cylinder motor into one of these little beasts... could it be possible to cramp this oldie but goodie carby 8 motor? I know there are Supra 5 Speeds and/or Celica split case 5 speeds applications for this motor, so the questions would be.. Has it been done? Can it be done? Should I do it? Or should I just try and source a 7K motor and go crazy one of those motors? Honest opinions please, so if I get laughed at... oh well.... stranger things have happened :moon:
Teddy Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Peter from these forums (now M.I.A) was putting a 1UZFE (or what ever it is.. .the toyota V8) into a Ke20 corolla lol
Tiger Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 Hmmmm.... you raise an interesting point Grim... Maybe an injected 5.0 litre then! :moon: May require some *cough* slight *cough* hacking.... but hey, if it wasn't meant to fit... MAKE IT FIT!!! hahahaha I just wanna put a motor in that not many people hear too much of. Maybe a Nissan FJ20DET motor (2.0l turbo). Unless... How hard would it be to put RA60 Celica running gear into a Corolla? MAJOR work? Or light headaches? I ask this because originally I wanted to fit a 4AGZE motor into my old one, but too many people have em now! No fun! :)
wilson_610 Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Definitely a creative one, young tiger... if u have LOTS of time, money and the machines you could get a 454 chev big block... and cut it in half and have a 227ci four cylinder beast. The Stock Bore is 4.250" and the Stock Stroke is 4.000", that would Definitely raise some eyebrows. and then strap a blower on it :moon:
TRD ke70 Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 (edited) honestly!! wasting your time with an old boat anchor, try using an alloy v8, like toyota has in the soarers. less weight(power to weight ratio), they rev harder (quad cam, multi valve)and aren't as hard on fuel, and it'll last longer without giving as many problems(toyota). Edited May 20, 2005 by TRD ke70
kangaroosa Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 I've seen a bloke getting around melbourne in either a ke20 or 25. He has a Ford 289cc V8 in it. VERY quick car. A bloke i used to do weekend work for (toyota wrecker/restorer) was mates with him. I don't know too much about it, except it looked standard and blew away just about any other V8 that lined him up. Might be worth looking into this option if you want to go for a cheapish V8. Leave that Holden crap in the wrecking yards. :moon:
Super Jamie Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 a v8 corolla would be close to undriveable on the street, it would be so nose heavy too, you'd need to spend alot of time and effort (and money) making it handle, but you could do it. there's a ke20 at my local hillclimbs with an sbc in it v6 would be the worst of both words, bogan material seriously, even a tough NA corolla is heaps of fun, and i'd say one with 150hp would be on the limits of useability. a 4 cylinder turbo is WAY MORE than enough it would also cost you 10-15 grand just to register a v8 corolla, never mind doing the actual conversion. why bother
Redwarf Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 I have a Gen III 5.7 in the front yard at the moment.... :moon:
Tiger Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 Thanks for the reply guys. Dwarf... that Gen 3 may come in handy with something else I have in store :) hahaha Nah, the V8 option was more like a "king of wishful thinking" moment I had. I've always loved an 8 in a small car but I also realise it's impracticalities. If I was to build such a thing.. I'd build it strict street/strip, like Paul Cundy's Blown 383ci V8 KE30, which then saw a 13B Turbo motor converted! I ain't a huge fan of rotorollas, I'm old fashion there, I say leave rotors in Mazdas. Plus to convert a 13B would be close to the $9K-$10K mark, so I may just stick to either a screamer 4... or a boosted 4. Thanks for the info... Now it was mentioned earlier about these 7K motors... what's the deal with them, are they sourceable? Parts easy to get? Does it require fab work? What drivetrain setup would go back with this? If these questions are answered in another thread, please direct me there. Cheers :moon:
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 (edited) everybody gave me shit about putting a rotary in daisy....if i wanted her to be fast, rotary is the way to go, but i want reliable...ROTARIES ARE NOT RELIABLE besides if it breaks where the hell do i get parts in oklahoma?? of course i don't know how common 12a's and 13b's are in aus Edited May 20, 2005 by mikeys toy
Tiger Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 We can ship em over if you want :moon: I have 3 rotor shops not far from me at all!
Super Jamie Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 i wouldn't bother with a 7k, they have a huge stroke so they're not good for big revs, and the heads aren't interchangeable with earlier engines. if you want a K motor, do a 5k and do it as cheap as possible take it from someone who as a >$2000 4K (me), if you want to spend big dollars on an engine, put something better in than a crappy old pushrod thing with the manifolds on the same side of the engine
Tiger Posted May 21, 2005 Author Report Posted May 21, 2005 Yeah I think 5K would be the go with this little project. And you can always bore out the motors and do all kinds of crazy stuff to it! Fun little motors. Has anybody had any dramas with forcing air into one of these motors via a hairdryer a.k.a turbo? :moon:
kangaroosa Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 This link is pinned in "engine conversions". http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...341&hl=turbo+3k
Tiger Posted May 21, 2005 Author Report Posted May 21, 2005 DOH! (smacks forehead) I noticed that before and I STILL asked on here! Sorry... my bad! :) I'll read the thread. Cheers dude :moon: 1
