seabiscuit Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 yep 1uz auto lower it a little and put on some old school 15inchers and some phat rubber I have to agree on the 15 inchers and phat rubber, but no 1uz power. Needs Chevy power. Quote
KEhendo Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 thanks for the feed back. having the 5X114.3 stud pattern has left me with too many wheels to choose from. i can't believe just how many types of wheels there are. on the topic of more cylinders you must know that after stepping out of my ke20 with 38kw, the crown with its 81kw engine and 180nm of torque is way more than enough to get my juices flowing. i just find it a bit weird that the car i got as a cruiser is faster than the car i got for spirited diving. :D Quote
smeetsy1 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I think mesh style rims with a polished lip look sooo ghetto! Quote
silverra23 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 1UZ is apparently a very very tight fit in the MS55 engine bay too. The easy conversions are the newer M series engines - 5MGE for instance, or a 7MGTE, if you like blown head gaskets every now and then. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 All M series love to blow - head gaskets that is :D If you were going to stay M series, prob go a 7MGE as it will have additional torque without all the turbo issues, etc :D Quote
KEhendo Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 i've decided to keep the engine carbureted just to save the hassle of fitting efi to a 40yo car. i'm not going tt be doing an engine conversion any time soon due to lack of cash flow and i use the philosophy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' having said that i've been looking at two styles of wheels. there is the vintage alloys, this would be my first option but they are going to cost about $2000 with tyres and thats way more than i'm willing to spend on wheels for a $400 car. the style i think i may end up with is fitting stock alloys of a new car. i can't find a picture of these on a ms55 but they are 300c alloys and you get the general idea. they are 18X8.5 with +24 offset. thoughts or more wheel suggestions? smeetsy1 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=32375 I highly enjoy that style. Quote
Doogs Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) Being such an original car I would be more keen on the grandpa look or a sleeper.(Sleeper providing all mods are reversable) on the topic of more cylinders you must know that after stepping out of my ke20 with 38kw, the crown with its 81kw engine and 180nm of torque is way more than enough to get my juices flowing. i just find it a bit weird that the car i got as a cruiser is faster than the car i got for spirited diving. :D Dropping a 5k or similar into the KE20 could solve that...... seabiscuit Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Alloys look strange on old cars which have lots of chrome strips/grilles/lights etc.. so they stick out like a sore thumb. I really think that the only thing that can suit this type of car are old hubcaps and whitewalls or a set of tough oldschool rims. I love commenting on this thread :D Such an awesome looking car. I'd never seen one before this. Quote
KEhendo Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 i'm trying to keep away from the stock/grandpa style because i have the ke20 for that. i'm going to try something different with this one. i'm going to keep most most of the car stock and make the wheels the focal point. as seabiscut says they stand out like a sore thumb. thats sort of how i want it but not how i would have worded it. this car is just going to get a rwc, probably a flip out dvd thing and associated sound system and some nice wheels as a focal point. i'll try and keep changing them up as funds allow and when i get bored with the ones i have. chromed ford 12 slotters are on the cards. KEhendo Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 i'd consider something like these but they look expensive. Quote
KEhendo Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 well, the penny has dropped. my $400 crown might not be the bargain of the century. the list. (there is more to do other than this but this is what it needs for rwc) 1. windscreen cracked 2. front seat belts frayed 3. all door seals cracked. 4. drivers seat has too much free play. (not sure how i'm going to sort this one) 5. brake globe blown (fixed thisarvo) 6. idler arm, pitman arm and tie rod ends worn. 7. all wheel bearings worn out. 8. all shocks leaking. 9. center muffler cracked. (might do whole system at same time) 10. all tyres worn and cracked due to age. 11. RHF indicator lens cracked. (going to be impossible to find another, going to have a go at a repair) 12. free play in steering box. 13. an stabilizer bushes cracked. 14. rust around pro valve. (this was the thing that they where most worried about. it's a valve that equalizes pressure between front and rear brakes. it is leaking break fluid and has surface rust all over. does anybody know if any other car these where fitted too?) 15. pan hard bushes cracking 16. engine oil leaks. (just going to give it a clean and hope they have a look over it before it leaks again) 17. needs new front discs 18. rust in rear quarters (shown in pic) 19. hand brake adjustment 20. recommend full service (plugs, leads, oil, all filters, gearbox oil, ect) surprisingly i didn't need to get the damage fixed because the metal hadn't rusted yet. going to just give them a quick coat of primer and white so they don't rust before the next inspection. i haven't given up on the car because the list of stuff for the ke20 was much bigger and that turned out fine. i've estimated parts are going to be about $1500 so i might still get this baby on the road for less than $2000. parrot Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 You are a legend! And I mean it. I shall keep a look out on my regular pickies visits, though I suspect you will be there even more than me. There was an old crown at Centre rd a couple of weeks or so ago, though I don't know which model. I got excited as I found an engine bay light complete with glass dome in it. Quote
dfunkt Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 that's quite an extensive list. :P hope to see you bring this for the hiroshima screamer cruise......as i'm hoping to be in something similar :lolcry: Quote
