hi i waz just wondering if it were possible to modd a 98 camry v6 into a ke 70with a rwd gearbox as i have access to a 98 camry running for 500 bucks. So just thought i would get someone elses opinion before i start wasting my money hahahaha.

would ddefinetly be something new, those engines go for ever and they fly too

if you have the money and the time then why not try, worst that could happen is you need to manafacture your own parts

thats where being a fitter machinist or having a mate as one, preferably some with a hell of machines at wrk like mill and lathe centres, would come in hand for sum custom parts

Using a bit of educated deduction, you have a few gearbox options:

you're engine being a 1MZ-FE, basically a all alloy version of the 3vz-fe(same bellhousing pattern AFAIK) same family had the 5VZ-FE(prado) which i think took a R15# 4WD gearbox, so theoretically a prado bellhousing on a supra/soarer R154 rwd box is one option.

 

Or 1MZ shares bellhousing pattern with 1/2AZ-FE, the AZ is the successor to the S motor(and also has the same patter), now early 1/2S came as RWD but the bellhousings weren't the same(different input shaft lengths or something). but late 3S-GE beam ran a getrag based J160 which should work as well as any W57/58 with a 3S bellhousing/adaptor(aftermarket but a common swap, should be available)

 

If anybody has tried and can confirm or disprove let us know. save other people making mistakes

thanks for all the help evryone, ive been giving it some thought and decided that I'm not going to bother with the conversion. Ive never done one b4 and this one would be too compliated for me, also the cars my daily so yeah hahah.Think i might just stick with getting a 5k for a rebuild something simple to start off with :P

Pretty much spot on :P Only thing is the R154 has a longer input shaft than the 5VZ R150, needs the shaft turned down or the bell housing spaced out 20mm or so. The biggest issue you'll have on all the FWD motors apart from the 3VZ is the starter motor. Littleredspirit is about to learn how hard this kind of swap is with no spot for the starter motor. Keep an eye on his thread if you're serious on ever taking something like this through to completion.

if this is the same model of camry engine then there was a thread on toymods about adapting it with minimal fuss to a W50

I'm planning the same with a 5vzfe in a ke10 i didnt realise the bellhousing pattern was the same on the mz but if thats true you can use a 151 housing from a surf but you will need to put a spacer plate between the supra box and the housing to correct the input shaft length.i would go with the supra box on a 1mz it should last forever and you should'nt have a problem with room in a ke70.ive seen one of these make 560kw at the wheels so its definately a good idea.

Not really worth the effort, considering you could probably put as much effort and money into doing a RWD 3SGE, get more power and not have an economy Camry 4-banger under the hood.

oh I don't know Hiro, if someone like the mid range poke of an engine then I can understand why they would like it.

I learnt to drive in a 5SFE-powered Camry, and now own (well, the g/f owns) a 3SGE-powered ST162. There is no comparison, really. Even the Gen1 3SGE has plenty of midrange, especially going into a car which only weighs around a tonne.

yeah fair enough, I am pretty ignorant you see as I have only ever driven one 3sge (gen 1) and yesterday a 5sge, the 5s had more power everywhere but maybe the 3s was half dead?
