hey guys i was wondering if there is anyone that has done some sort of conversion for a better cooling system which doesnt really involve cutting the body very much... maybe something with a thermo... if anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated!!

stock system has a thermo the works pretty well

if you want to upgrade maybe an ae82 external thermostat will work but I'm not sure if there is enough lines going in and out of it, also the hose connectors are a diff size so you will have to stretch pipes

Well, I'm sure this mod comes with a Govt Guarantee of Disapproval, but the roads of inland NSW get vey hot for any little old Corolla...

Spare wheel nuts.

oh god please post this in the "dodgy mods"

also why start upgrading your cooling system when theres nothing wrong with it? please put a digital temp gauge first before thinking "oh f@$k its on H, pop the bonnet, no steam, top hose is touchable" can get real expensive by this point

i can agree that a thermo will help in the summer when idling at the light

Sprinter guys use a Hyundai Excel radiator which comes with thermo and integrated switch I think.

But first make sure your cooling system is up to scratch. Old Toyotas are usually full of sludge and the only real way to fix it is to get your radiator recored.

add a new water pump and thermostat since you have already dropped the coolant, and you will probably find you don't have any more cooling issues

You can get a 3 row core fitted to the stock KE radiator. I had that coupled with a 10" DC Thermo and never had issues.

The standad fan and shroud is preferable anyway, and will cool any K engine you have....no matter how wild it is.

Anything bigger than a KE radiator will be useless without cutting up the radiator support to get full airflow over the larger core.

Hey, i would reccomend if your car is getting hot at this stage, try flushing your radiator usually the old ke70 are full of sludge, change the thermostat and gasket (like $11.00 from super cheap) then refill it back with new coolant. it should make an improvement, well it did to mine atleast.

Cheers dan.

I have a three row radiator (stock is two row) and a custom shroud and thermo fan fitted. Was really good when we got it, have been having some overheating issues lately.

I have run a chemical flush through the cooling system, also changed the water pump and thermostat housing (for second hand items of a different design re heater hose routing) and it has a new thermostat (which didn't solve the problem. After running the chemical flush in it for half an hour or a bit more, I dropped the coolant, then used a hand held hose nozzle to blast jets of water through the radiator and engine block in pulses until only clear water came out the other end. A surprising amount of brown liquid came out..... drained the engine block at the fitting below the water pump, and then refilled with clean water, and sent Kylie out to blayney in it to go to work.... I will be interested to see how it goes... Should the temperature have come back down, then nice green coolant is first thing on the agenda. So far, driving it around town it seemed a lot cooler, so fingers crossed

thumbs up for the chemical flush and good cleanout so far, temp seems to have come down, vehicle no longer "idles up" and we seem pretty happy....

I'm short one adaptor fitting to hook my aftermarket temp gauge up so as to confirm this, I will report when I have confirmed for sure.
