B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I'm gonna degrease my engine bay on my stock ke70 4k. Are there any bits i should not get wet and cover? I'm only gonna use a hose not a gurney. don't wanna do it and have to let it dry out for days. And i was reading a thread and someone polished everything up in the engine bay with something. Tyre polish maybe? For the hoses? Also I'm gonna swap out my plugs and leads for freshies to try sort out some acceleration issues. Is there a certain brand of both I should get that wont break the bank, or should some standard repco/supercheap/autobahn jobbies be ok as its just stock. Also is that carbie clean stuff worth it or should i just take my car for a good thrash, or both? Cheers guys your help is always appreciated. :lolcry: Go banana Quote
BReNt Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 You should be alright hosing down your engine bay. If you use a bit of common sense you'll be right. Just don't spray too heavily around the carby, the dizzy, the spark plugs or anywhere water might be able to enter into the engine. WD-40 or something similar always helps to dry up unwanted moisture if you do happen to get something wet. I would recommend spraying a bit of WD40 under the dizzy cap before and after you hose down the engine if you have some. Also, NGK spark plugs are good, but really any suitable plugs/leads you can find at your local Repco/parts store should be alright. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 sweet. i need a can of WD anyway. Thought it would be pretty sweet to do but thought id check if there was someshing that COULDNT get wet. Just to be sure. Never had an engine bay this greasy before that warranted a degrease. Better safe than sorry I say. I hope its built up gunk, not huge oil leak. Thanks for the advice BReNt Quote
irokin Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Inox is better :lolcry: (and made locally) Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I suggest putting a plastic bag over the alternator and fuse box, then go hard. If you are using a pressure washer be gentle around seals and electrical components, but go hard on the block and body. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Warm it up and spray with degreaser then let it soak for a few minutes. I'm using "5Star 3 in 1 " at the moment, but I've used a home-made mix of turps and detergent before, which is basically all those cans of degreaser are. Quote
philbey Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Kero is a good degreaser, and so is Diesel. Quote
styler Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 you are better off with a high pressure sprayer its quicker and more effective with way less water, garden hose would drown everything by the time you got some dirt off with the huge volume of water it uses... just cover essential electrical items and avoid spraying them as mentioned :lolcry: Quote
