Tume Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Whats the plan for the shell after you raid it all? Build is looking good (Y) Quote
Tally Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 shell is only good for scrap, rust in seal panels, doors, boot, bonnet and roof, not to mention chassis rails and engine bay, surprisingly spare tire well is still intact lol not to mention both doors and roof got totally destroyed by the forklift ive stripped most parts and will be selling off bits and pieces... Tally Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 (edited) ok so the planning begins I'm keen to upgrade my existing ta22 T50 to a A-series T50, as I prefer the further back shifter position, and apparently later T50's are better because the bearings are bigger roller ones and not the plain type. But apparently that's where the problem lies with fitment of t-series bellhousing onto a a-series T50 according to this thread: T-50 22spline in 2T I have already cut out my trans tunnel to fit my KE70 K50 so ive already passed that hurdle. now also I'm wondering about a late model T-18 T50 as they have a 3TC so should bolt up to my 2TG, apparently they are 22 spline so the shifter should be the later further back type... and early T-18 have 20 spline output shaft (I think) but is the shifter still further back or up front ta22 style? can anyone help? EDIT: found this thread, T-18/TE72 gearbox with what looks to be rear shifter position! WIN! T18 TE72 T50 5 speed EDIT: EDIT: Got to love answering your own questions -__- T18 & AE71 gearbox differences? Edited March 6, 2011 by Tally Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Looking good Tal, keen to come check out progress at some point. Quote
Tally Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 ok I'm at a crossroads. Ive just bought a 2TG package and I'm all set ready to go... but.... Ive found a 4age... now I know it looks like I can't make up my mind but I need some opinions on which way I should head. Basically its a street car, set up for fun times in hills and track... Will be a daily until buy a proper daily... now the question I ask, either stick with the 2TG for period correctness or go 4AGE and take advantage of huge aftermarket support, good prices and all the 4age stuff... ive been eying out yahoo japan and still 2TG stuff available but the 2TG is huge compared to a 4AGE and only 8v compared to 16v. hmmmmm...... parrot Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 :bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash: 2 weeks ago it was a hot K motor, last week the 2TG and now the 4AGE!!!!! Well, powerwise they are pretty similar, assuming it is a 16 valve. Parts are much easier to find for the 4AGE. You will need to factor in an A series T50. If you decide to go carbed 4AGE it is pretty simple, EFI much more expensive and complicated to get it right. You need to make sure you have all the sensors, along with a RWD inlet manifold and a decent fuel system. If it is EFI and you set it up properly, which isn't as easy as people seem to think, it is smooth, effortless performance that starts first time everytime. You have been spending too much time over on AE86DC if you ask me......:) Quote
Tally Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 You have been spending too much time over on AE86DC if you ask me......:) hahaha you think? lmao I know, but things just pop up at the wrong times lol and tempt me and give me ideas of what could be lol... Well to be honest was put off a k-motor because make stuff all power stock and very little aftermarket support thus hard to extract decent power Then seen the 2TG package and thought id jump on it as was a good deal. Now ive found a 4AGE package which is also a good deal. now if I go 4AGE I know it will stop there as that's basically up there as far as RWD Toyota twin-cams go apart from 3SGE's but they never tickled my fancy so thats out the picture lol 2TG's do sound awesome though with the twin solex carbs, was just out in the shed tinkering with them :P Quote
parrot Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Yes, I have seen your name in the active user list over there too many times! At least I have the decency to disguise my infrequent visits to the parts for sale forum with a reasonably obvious pseudonym. "now if I go 4AGE I know it will stop there as that's basically up there as far as RWD Toyota twin-cams go" Now you should know better than that. It never stops. Next you will be looking at a silver top, then a blacktop, or putting 20 valve throttle bodies on the 16 valve. Then you will pull that out for a 4AGZE, but still not tempted you will convert to a 4AGTE! When you start thinking of the SR20DET, we'll have to take your keys away....... Seriously though, an injected 4AGE is going to add up to a few bikkies to do properly. But I doubt you will have any trouble moving on your 2TG package Quote
Tally Posted March 15, 2011 Author Report Posted March 15, 2011 I know, it never stops does it! The crave for more and more power I know. just something funny, the most powerful/setup car ive owned was my 4K ke70 with ae86 suspension and that was fun az. In this between 100 - 200hp is what I am aiming for that is more then enough in such a small car. Quote
parrot Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 The thing to be careful of, especially in an EFI situation, is that whilst the package may be a good deal on the surface, knowing what you are getting. Or more importantly, what you are not getting. It is the things you subsequently discover are not there, that often end up making it so expensive when trying to track items down individually. Quote
snot35 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Carb the 4AGE and pretend it's a 151e (you may have to paint the cam covers so it's a little more convincing) ;) Quote
ke70dave Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 nothing wrong with EFI!!!!!! and once you set it up properly the first time, it wont give you any dramas. forget carbs on a 4age i think, once you set the EFI up, you never have to touch it. (key word, set it up properly!!) note: almost everything you read on the internet regarding fuel systems for EFI + 4age's + rwd corollas is WRONG. you do not need a 900HP external fuel pump, or a 7L surge tank. agreed becareful with "packages", you really need to understand what sensors, wiring, etc you need before you ever start looking for parts. luckily the 4age is the most simple efi system you can get, so you don't need much to get it complete.
