rolla_93 Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 I'm trying to figure out which engine to put in a ke70 rolla.I'm tossing up between a 4A-GZE, 4A-GE 20V Blacktop, 21R-C or a 3S-GE(or turbo)?? I'm not sure if the celica motors fit or if the engine bay has to be overhauled to fit them. any help would be great guys/gals. Quote

They will all fit, they will all be expensive to fit, they will all go a lot faster than the stock motor. More help needed? Quote
Karllos Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Really all boils down to what you want the car for and how it to perform then choose the best suited, engine... EG: if your after a decent streeter, then don't go too nuts maybe the GZE, track car 20V turbo or 3S-GTE... Karl. Quote
Trev Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Should be mentioning your budget, if your handy with tools or if you are going to pay someone to do it, for a simple install go for the 16v. Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 The newest most modern RWD layout you can find. I'd like a Honda S2000, a Mazda MX5 or an Altezza 3SG-E. All fuel injected, high-revving and 6speeds. Quote

(on the road anyway) keep in mind my 16V conversion cost around 3k all up, that was with some very good bargains too. engine conversions are not a cheap excercise. Quote

If you want to stay with normally aspirated go the 20v otherwise if you want a boosted engine go the 4agze. Their easy enough to fit and heaps of parts and mounting s available. Quote
rolla_93 Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 i talked to one of the guys i work with at toyota and he said they all fit but to get an ae71 because to put a 4A-GE or 4A-GZE you just gotta change the mounts. I'm just wndering how mucch (on average) it would be to chuck a 4A-GZE because even the standard 4A-GE has nearly as much as my daily drive (TP Mgna with 2.6 EFI) id prefer that extra bit of grunt.amd apparently the suprecharged is fairly easy to go turbo later on. my budget on the engine will probably be about 2-3000. is this gonna be enough? oh yea its gonna be my new daily drive btw Quote

Don't even need to change the mounts with the AE71, just pop it in. You'd definitely be able to put the engine in for 2-3000 dollars, especially if that budget doesn't include getting the car to start with. I'd even say with that budget you could do the suspension and brake upgrades etc. that you need for roadworthy if you're patient and handy with a spanner (or know someone who is). If you want grunt definitely go the supercharged, good low end power. Making them RWD from FWD isn't too much of a challenge and a few build threads should show you easily what you need to do. For your budget though you'd probably be able to even pick up a 4AGZE RWD half cut and then you're ready to go! Biggest thing is to read some build threads though so you know what you're in for. Good luck! Quote

xmoht Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 oh yea and does anyone no how much a set of quad throttle bodies would be with trumpets? To buy them new you're looking at between 1500 - 2000 dollars. Probably get your engine in and the car going and everything then look at other mods you can do I reckon. If you want low end power you'll get that with forced induction like turbo and supercharging. Quad throttle bodies are opening up more air flow so that's geared more towards high revving engines that are generally naturally aspirated. So in terms of 4AGEs and for simplicity sake, if you want quad throttle bodies and high end power with lots of revs go the 4AGE 20valve. If you want low end power so you're quick off the line and you can dorifto and go hooning around corners, go the 4AGZE. Quote
