Chobis Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Quite simply I am looking at putting in a Puratap. Not sure about other states, but Adelaide water is not to my drinking standards so I have been buying those 10litre boxes of water for many years now. They are annoying though. So, I am considering the Puratap option. I got a quote........ they are doing some special at the moment....... $249 gets the whole thing fully installed, nothing more to pay. Then it's just filter replacement every 12 months which is about $40 to $50. Is there anything I should know? I really only want to hear from you if you have one. Are you happy with it? Cheers, Chobis with a silent C :) Quote
philbey Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 I bought a one it cost me 400 grand and I got a free house with it. I'm actually pretty happy with it, the water seems tasty enough and all that. My mum bought a cheap one and it takes about 15 minutes to fill a glass whereas my puratap is damn fast. Not only that but her cheaper one didn't really save her any money, replacements filters are cheaper but clog up much much faster. I've not had my filter changed but I might call Puratap and get them round, they don't have me on their system yet cos I bought the house. One thing though - Reverse Osmosis filtration units are pretty cheap and much better, but take up space. Google it, there's some cool ones out there, 400 bucks or so. Quote
Oh-KE Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Hey mate, we have had one at our house for a fair while and they are a huge improvement on normal tap water. Puratap seem pretty good too, they often come and replace stuff free of charge.. Like the actual tap part has been replaced twice for nothing. Once because the old one broke, another time just because we didn't have the latest model. And yeah filters are pretty cheap too. So I would say go for it. Quote
2EZEM8 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 yeah, i say get one, they're a good investment and can save you heaps of money instead of buying those boxes all the time. we didn't have to pay for it cause it was already in the house when we got it but we just got a letter in the mail saying that we're due for a filter replacement and that it would cost $89, don't know why its more than the other guys on here but yeah $90 every year isn't bad Quote
Chobis Posted July 2, 2010 Author Report Posted July 2, 2010 I bought a one it cost me 400 grand and I got a free house with it. Hehe..... nice. Thanks for that philbey. You are a wealth of knowledge on all sorts of topics. Yeh I don't have heaps of room, so I think the puratap unit is the go. Thanks Oh-KE and 2EZEM8. This is what I was hoping to hear. People that are happy with them and no negative feedback. I think I shall proceed with it. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 We had an underbench filter unit at the last house I owned, so there was no chlorine in the water between the filter and the tap. I never used it, but my son did and one day we were doing the dishes and chatting about it, so I pulled the bit of slime from just inside the tap out, and he nearly choked! Didn't worry me, I'm a microbiologist and I knew what happens when you take the chlorine out of the water, bit it did look pretty gross. Funny, he never drank it after that.... Quote
SLO-030 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Hahah, nice. How would you get around that? Not take ALL the chlorine out? Quote
Raven Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I also have a puratap at my place. It works well, and am always drinking from it with no issues whatsoever. Definately worth it in the long term as you wont be buying cartons of water to drink from. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Please buy one, in fact buy one for every house in Adelaide because then maybe I would not have to hear their ads on the radio anymore!! I f*cking hate their ads :) :( :( :bash: On way way too often and so irritating!! If they were that good why do they advertise so much? Makes me suspicious :) Did I mention I hate their ads :laff: :laff: :laff: :laff: :laff: On a serious note apparently they hassle you when it comes time for filter replacement - just what my friend who has one told me. And I'm guessing this is where they make most of their money (ongoing running costs) :) Quote
7shades Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I think it's a very sad state of affairs that you guys even need to consider stuff like this. We don't even have flouride in the water up here... Comes straight off the mountains and tastes better than bottled water. The government really needs to stop having meetings and commissioning surveys and focus groups, and start actually doing something re: The Murray Darling clusterf*ck. Quote

I grew up in the country drinking rain water, and Adelaide tap water never sat right with me. The last two houses I've lived in have had Purataps, and I love them. Makes a huge difference and well worth it imo Quote
philbey Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 Oh and before you go looking it up I'll save you some time, replacing the puratap filters yourself is a no go. Yeh you can probably bodge something together and prise the unit open yourself but you wont be able to buy a filter that fits the unit anyway. More than likely you'll bust the unit trying to get it open though haha! Quote

You can buy the filters from puratap themselves so you can swap them over, but it almost the same price to have them come out and change the filters Quote
Chobis Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Hey thanks all for the feedback etc. I will be going ahead with the PuraTap. Cheers. :) Quote
