Dan Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I'm thinking i'd better look into this a bit. What were the different diff ratios out of the Rollas before 81? I know that Lappy said that the highest ratio ones were the pano/wagon ones. Is that right? Also, would KE20 diffs fit a KE35-55? Cheers, Dan Quote
Dan Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 Oh yeah, and I know that there were 4 spd (pre 78) and 5 spd manual boxes (me thinks KE55), but were there different ones? Cheers, Dan Quote
Mr Hardware Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 i know this. The diff ratios and gear ratios for ke55 4 and 5 speeds are identical, except that the 5-speed has overdrive. KE55's have Borg Warner 4.11:1 diffs. I can remember 4th is 1:1. I can't remember/don't know anything else. Quote
lappy Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 the ratios i have came across is 4.2 4.3 4.4 4.5 in jap diffs and 4.1 4.3 borg warner Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 all the "good" ratios are in the "t" rear Quote
Redwarf Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Also 4.1 and 3.9 (?) in the Jap diffs. Picked up my 4.77's from the TRD boys last week for my t-series.... :D Quote
Dan Posted August 26, 2005 Author Report Posted August 26, 2005 how can I identify jap diffs and BW diffs and their ratios? also, where would I find a 4.5 ratio diff? could I find them in wagons or panel vans or wagons and panos come out with varying ratios? cheers! Quote
ScottKE1X Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 i've got a BW diff centre thats 3.79:1 (came from ke70 wag) I'm keeping it incase i got interstate one day. Jap diffs unbolt from the front, BW diffs have the bolts on the back... the BW's have a plate mounted on the back that says ratios scott. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 why hardly, jamie? daisy had 4.44's untill i put a ke25 4.22's in it then i cobbled up rear using a starlet center (3.18), starlet axles, and the ke25 housing. i was running 175/50/r13's and was able to cruise at 110mph until i hit a little hill....i kept breaking them doing burnouts untill i put the te28 rear in it(4.10) now i'm running bubba's 3.58's.... i would much rather have a taller gear than a short one for daily driving Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 most of us are after shorter gears. i have no problem dailying with 4.3s. personally, i find 4.1 too tall for a corolla, it's only a little engine. and you can get all those gears for both T and U series anyway Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 out here you criuse at 75-85mph, so i had a problem with the 4.10's....AND it sems to have more drag power with the taller gears....dunno why Quote
TRD ke70 Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 TRD made 5.1,4.7,4.5 for a k series and 5.3,5.1,4.7,and 4.6 for the T series. Quote
Dan Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 how do I identify the Jap diffs (their respective ratios) and which cars would I find the shorter (4.5) ratios in? I'm sort of interested in a 81 Wagon (is that ke38?), but only if I found the 4.5 ratios in it? Would I find them in that? Also, what ratios did the ke36 (is that the wagon that was based on ke30?) Super Jamie Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 count the teeth, divide the pinion into the ring gear Quote
