67Rolla-Ken Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I know a paint shop that does decent resprays starting at ~$5k... you really do get what you pay for in this area if you can't do it yourself. I can get you an accurate quote if you can get me some pics. Quote

Go to an auto paint store or auto shop like Autobarn and they will make up a spray can for you. Find the colour code first, anyone here can help you find it.  If you sand it to bare metal, buy some primer from the store as well, you can even get primer that you apply with a brush. Get some sand paper too and follow any number of painting guides on the net. Mighty Car Mods latest episode is actually about just this topic so maybe give them a hit on youtube.  It won't be show room but if you do it right it will look factory to any average passer by, and that's the main thing. Especially if your name is t18drifts, I'm guessing it won't be the last repair you do to the car. Quote

If you want to do the whole car however and don't have access to tools or talent, I would recommend getting el cheapo can paint like blzbubb's matte black KE70 or do it with rollers. It was discussed in another thread here but that's the original. As you can see in the thread, it works pretty well and will cost you about the same as getting two or three cans made up of custom paint. Edited August 10, 2010 by xmoht Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 don't use cheap spray cans like mine. It looks good for a few months then fades to shit. You can achieve an ok look with cans but you need a good technique, a lot of patience and it can cost a lot as decent paint in a can isn't cheap. Â At the moment I'm painting mine with GMH matt which cost 47 bucks for 4 litres and a compressor (cheap cans cost me almost 150). There are plenty of ways to do it on the cheap but it all depends on the end result you desire. Â Me, I want rangi matt black so it's always gonna be a cheap paint job. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 If you're doing it yourself I would go the roller method as mentioned. That relies on you doing a good job with the prep work and a lot of fine sanding. Quote
t18drifts Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 yeh luky sanding is my middle name  man the amount of things that caan be acheived with just sand paper is amazing  Quote

altezzaclub Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Do all the bog-work yourself, brush some undercoat on, sand it back, brush some more on, sand it back... Â Sand down a door or two and the bonnet then take them down to your spraypainter to undercoat, take it home and sand it back. Â When you have a smooth undercoat over the whole car take it to a spray shop and have them topcoat it. Â Cost me $800 for spraypainting all of one side plus the top surfaces in two-pack blue. Looks better than new! Â I should have done the passenger's side but I cbf at the time! I took it back to steel to get rid of rust spiders under the paint. Quote
19914afc Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 its not hard to repair the rust yourself properly, all you need is time, metal to cut out and shape, and the only hard bit, access to a welder. Quote
