nizmo13 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 hi, i have a ke55 that came as an auto. all the manual cross members don't fit my floor pan and the mount on the gear box is about eight inches to far forward. just curious if anyone knows why this has been such a pain in the ass. Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 what manual crossmember are you using? you'll need one from a ke30 or ke55, as well as a gearbox from the same there should be two sets of chassis rail holes for you to bolt the gearbox crossmember to, 80mm apart. perhaps one of our members with a ke3/5 could stick their head under their car and tell you which set to use for a K box, i believe it's the forwardmost set Quote
demuire Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 K box is forward set of holes, T box is rearward set of holes Quote
Nitephyre Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 with the amount of fook gearbox changes.. I'm sure you know it off by heart eh? :P Quote
Stiks666 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 (edited) The plate around the shifter also needs to be changed, big pain in arse. Just drill out the spotwelds on both cars and swap the plates and i just used alot of silicone and rivits to reattach it. Welding would probably work just as good and look abit better though. Gearbox mounting points should be the same. They were for me anywho. Edited September 3, 2005 by Stiks666 Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 KE30 and KE55 4 speeds are identical, and so are their cross members. I have a KE70 5 speed with a KE55 5 speed extension housing bolted in my KE35 with the KE35 cross member. Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 (edited) In fact I have had 16 gearboxes in my KE35 and they have all been identical....I have had an auto KE55 that I was going to put a manual in and no holes lined up with anything with any cross member I had....But we have put a KE55 4 speed into a KE35 auto, and everything bolted straight in. (apart from the shifter hole, which we just bashed out with a hammer haha) Edited September 3, 2005 by Rolla__Boy Quote
nizmo13 Posted September 4, 2005 Author Report Posted September 4, 2005 thats what i mean. this was an auto and theres just no holes there that line up. need the to get rwc with the manual but was just hoping there was another crossmember. does any one know some one that can fix this problem in victoria. kangaroosa Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 (edited) My KE30 was originally an Auto, and now has a 5 speed - K50. There are different extension housings that may be causing your drama's. The KE70 extension housing has the shifter further back towards the rear of the car. It also has a different setup for mounting the gearbox crossmember. If the following pics don't help. Then contact Peter Robinson below. Call Peter Robinson on 9544 1162. He's in Clayton, VIC. Tell him your story. Or even better, drop in. He can be a bit grumpy if you don't have all info together. In other words, make sure you clearly state your problem. This pic is of a ke30/55 extension housing. Note the shifter is further foward and it just has the one bolt to attach the cross member rubber mount. Edited September 4, 2005 by kangaroosa Quote
kangaroosa Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 (edited) KE70 extension housing. Note the shifter is further back. It also a different mount setup (2 bolts either side). This NOT the one you need. Or maybe it is, if nothing else has worked. Edited September 4, 2005 by kangaroosa Quote
kangaroosa Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Here is my crossmember. It bolts to the chassis on the front set of holes. This is still the original cross member i used from on my 4 speed - k40.(i think) Quote
kangaroosa Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Are you able to take some pics and share them with us? It may be easier for people to help, if they can see what your faced with. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 KANGAROOSA; the first one is identical to the starlet k50 and is what i have in daisy i have never seen the second before now Quote
