demuire Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 R31 diff = VL diff = a lot of other Commodore/Falcon diffs. Cheap, easily available, lots of ratios (in the wrong direction, ie 3.9's etc), handles good power, but wears out quickly and doesn't work anywhere near as well as most other LSD's. Quote
demuire Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 If I'm not mistaken the only "good" ratio you can get for a VL diff is out of an auto Pintara, and it's a 4.1 Quote
SLOTH Snr Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 I was expecting to go in the wrong direction ie;3.9,3.7 Is the conversion of the Fseries as easy as an r31 Am i on the right track in thinking that with an excess of torque lowering the diff ratio is benaficial. It was hitting fifth gear at 50K's and was wanting to accelarate going uphills at just ordinary revs. Basically if you hit a steep hill at 80k it would accelerate when you raised the revs. (SLOTH'S HILLCLIMB SPECIAL) Quote
irokin Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 it would accelerate when you raised the revs. umm....thats what usually happens...you kinda have to have the revs rise in order to accelerate...you know...with that whole engine being connected to the wheels thing.... Quote
Felix Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 what diff ratio is in it? something like a 3.9 should be good with the 7k. really you want it to be a couple of hundred revs into its powerband at cruise speed on the highway in 5th. Quote
SLOTH Snr Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 It has a 4.1 borg warner Where do i find the gaerbox I.D I think it has the van box in it. Seems like very close ratio gears. you kinda have to have the revs raise to accelarate normally the load added by the hill will compensate for the rise in revs ie; load +revs = velocity Quote
lappy Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 sorry to dig up a old thread but could i get a copy of dyno 2000? Quote
love ke70 Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 for the rise in revs ie; load +revs = velocity ah, does your clutch normally slip? :) i think it should be load + throttle = revs = velocity Quote
trd Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 I have 81mm Hypertec Pistons in my 5K. They were packaged for a Gemini (they required machining though). They might be a cheaper option than genuine pistons........ if you need new pistons. If you havent found someone to do your headwork: Call "Eddie Woods" THE HEAD STUD DEVELOPMENT COMPANY 31 Capella Crs Moorabbin 3189 (03) 9553 2517 He knows his stuff when it comes to corolla heads and engines. I just emailed you a copy of Dyno2000. you can buy 5k .5 o/s hypatec pistons in flat top & dish types. are gemini ones stronger??? i just priced them yesterday. quite cheap i thought about $160 + as for the thurst washers for a 7k their the same as 5k,3e,5e & 1nzxe toyota engines. as for the 7k pistons the deck height is different from 5k & the the pin is 20mm, i just measured that against a 4age piston (100kw type) & the deck height is 2 mm short but no big dish in the piston. this would give ya a really strong piston with a full floating pin. compression ratio you would have to check but i couldn't see it being a problem. iam working on trying to find arp main bolts, head studs & rod bolts at the moment. when i find out what fits i'll post it UP hope this is of some help to all Quote
