Allright so we have all had these crazy ideas, but I'm pretty curiouse on what power a sr20 in a ke30 could make? with a turbo.

And also for what dollars?

How much do you want? Give us either a power figure or a dollar figure and we can tell you what the other will be.

illd be happy to spend 6 grand on the engine and box? at the most

6 grand could get you alot of power but n/a it would be limited to about 200rwhp if u forged everything and spent the whole 6 grand

 

not a lot of power sr20's make all there power on boost

 

why a sr20 there are much better engines around that are a bit more reliable

Unreliable? Pfft where do you get that idea from? With $6000 you'll probably hit the gearboxes limit at something like 230kw. I think if you spend your money wisely thats an easily achievable figure for that kind of money. The gearbox is the major expensive hurdle with SRs but once you're past that and you've got forged internals, skys the limit.

 

This is a mates old silvia. I think he ended up going close to or over 600whp. Yes it was laggy as hell, turbo was a little on the (too) large side.

I think from now on I will refer to that diagram whenever trying to explain how turbos lag to someone.

 

Back to Unnas original question; the point I always bring up is: will you be doing all the work yourself (and just spending the money on parts), some of it (ie installation yourself, but replace internals or getting it tuned elsewhere), or none of it (basically a drive in/drive out situation, which was the case with my AE86 and ended up costing a lot more than I'd originally planned)? These can impact the cost dramatically. A lot of the members here do lots of the work themselves, so prices they quote (overall) will be for things that a knowledgable backyard mechanic couldn't do and a lot of the more basic stuff (dropping the motor in, connecting things up etc) would be done by them. If you've just bought a KE30 and want to put an SR20 in (but have no mechanical ability) the 6k might not even be enough to purchase the engine, box and get it installed (will be even more if you want it engineered). If you already have the KE30 with the SR20 installed and were just talking about mods then that's a different story.

 

I'll also be the voice of reason and ask if you actually need crazy power (ie is it a drift/drag/burnout car or just your daily and you wanna be able to keep up with all the other cars).

 

I'm pretty sure SR20s into KE30s have been done before, so it's probably worth a search around the site and ask some of the people who have previously done this so you don't fall into the same pitfalls.

as for original question, far to open ended I'm afraid.

 

do some research, make some calls to engine builders. that will get you your ansnwer. after all, modifying an sr20 is not really a new thing..

I want to take it to the drags, also everyone loves a fast car.

I was talking to a mate on this, he would have close to the best corolla on here that has sr20, and hes spend 9000 on the whole car buts done it all himself.

One other thing is, I'm not sure if ur alowed engine swaps on ur p plates? some please help me on that lol...

 

It doesnt have to be an sr20 i want somthign that doesnt depend on the turbo for most the power and ill also prefur not to spend 6k but that would be the limit.
